This is one of the older hotels in Abu Dhabi, but it is well maintained and has a nice atmosphere. Its lobby/ restaurants/ pool & gym are distributed on three floors so you can expect a huge area. (and you will get lost during the first day..:-)) The hotel is not directly on the beach, but it is a short 3-4 minutes walk along the hotel's marina. The room was spacious, the bathroom had separate shower and toilet sections. (N.B. we were in a "normal" standard room.) The breakfast is very varied and good quality, includes all usual 5*-type options.

Can't say enough positive things about the hotel. hotel is beautiful. Location is a little ackward and it was hard to find but the view of the canal is great and the fact that you can walk to the grand mosque from the hotel was really a plus. Had a balcony room facing the pool and the canal which was an incredible view. Detail in the room was top notch. had dinner in the Lebanese restaurant which was very good. service and food was excellent. Portions were huge, i couldn't begin to finish what i ordered. Breakfast the next morning was equally a good. I have to say this was one the nicest hotel experiences i have had in a long time. Highly recommend.

My wife and I met our son here who flew in from Muscat. The hotel kindly placed us in rooms next to each other. The room was vast (end of block 401) with all the trimmings you need when on holiday. The room was clean cool with the AC, with a balcony overlooking the creek and the mosque. The hotel was not busy as full high season is not for a few months but there was a full compliment of staff to attend to you. We used the pool facilities and despite the temperature reaching 40 the pol cooled us down and we had a small cool box of water topped up regularly throughout the day. The staff came around regularly with a fruit kebab and a fresh fruit juice or tea in the afternoon. We ate at Bord Eau which was wonderful and when you compare prices with other hotels fairly reasonable, but the food was exquisite. We used the "brunch" buffet where everything was so fresh and plentiful you wanted to try all the dishes! We also had a brunner on Friday at Pearls and Caviar which was very good with a good selection of seafood and good wine. For the other days in the week we tried other restaurants in other hotels which were also very good but on comparing the hotels themselves nothing came close to the Shangi-la, its positioning away from the city and downtown area and its cooling breeze off the creek. It has so much going for it with the souk attached to the side where there are a good few quality restaurants, a Starbucks for your morning caffeine fix...

"Second time round equally as good as first visit!"
This was our second visit in 3 months to a fantastic hotel. Stayed on Gold floor where you are looked after so well - staff are brilliant and so friendly right throughout the whole hotel nothng is too much trouble for them.
Hotel is extremely clean and the lobby area smells so good. The swimming pool is large, cooled to a lovely temperature in the hot months and well maintained. Staff are on hand to help lay towels on your sun-lounger, adjust your sun shade and bring an ice bucket for your complimentary bottles of water. There is a swim up bar which is very handy in the Summer heat.
Hotel restaurants are excellent from the buffet restaurant Cuiscene up to Marco Pierre White.
