Lorenzo I de' Medici, the great patron of the Renaissance in Florence, is on his deathbed. As he draws his last breath, the blessed life of artists also comes to an end. For the Dominican monk Girolamo Savonarola almost immediately began a campaign against everything to do with art. Michelangelo, for example, who lived and worked in Lorenzo's house for many years, is no longer sure of his life and must flee Florence as quickly as possible.
