What you can expect

This full day tour offers you an opportunity to enjoy stunning natural landscapes of the surroundings of Luang Prabang. Joining this tour, you will experience both hiking and cruising to visit the famous Lao Loum, Lao Theung, and Lao Sung villages. In addition, you will be taken to see the impressive Tad Sae Waterfall and enjoy refreshing swimming there.

This tour will serve different activities based on 2 different seasons: high water season and low water season. Here under is the detailed programme for each season.

August to January (high water season)

At the departure time, you will be greeted and picked up at your hotel’s lobby by an English speaking guide and a driver. You will be transferred out of the town to the starting point of the hiking journey. It may take you about 25 minutes to get there.

Upon your arrival there, you start hiking in about 2 hours through rice fields and steep slopes to the first hill-tribe village, Houay Fai, inhabited by Khmu people. You will be warmly greeted by children there.

Leaving the village, you continue hiking uphill in another hour along ridges, limestone grottos and rocky slopes to another village, Ban Tinpha where Hmong ethnic people live. You will enter the village and have lunch there. Coming here, you can see, listen and ask your guide about the local’s daily activities and life. There will be a lot of interesting information you may have about the locals. Besides, don’t hesitate to talk with the villagers about life in Laos generally and in Ban Houay Yen particularly. In addition, you will have an opportunity to see the variety of flora and fauna in this area.

Leaving the village, you will embark on a boat and enjoy a cruise along the Nam Khan River. You will ride through the jungle to reach the stunning Tad Sae Waterfall which is a perfect place to relax. Once you arrive at the waterfall, you can enjoy a refreshing swim after a long trekking journey. Then, you take a boat ride and cycle back to Luang Prabang city.

The trekking journey takes about 4-5 hours through 300-900m of deciduous forest and farmland.

February to July (low water season)

During the low water season, the water level at the Tad Sae Waterfall can be very low, so the visit to there may be omitted.
