Description

Gaze out the window at the shifting landscapes as you leave bustling Milan behind and head for the foothills of the Swiss Alps. Board the Bernina red train and journey through gorges and past glacier lakes, reaching heights of 7,400 feet (2,250 metre) before alighting in the chic winter resort of St. Moritz.

After a scenic coach ride crossing the border from Italy to Switzerland, climb board the “Little Red Train”. Travel over curved viaducts and through winding tunnels, passing wild gorges, icy glaciers, and stone fields. Open your window to let in the fresh Alpine air and fill your camera with sweeping photos as you pass by this stunning landscape.

After your 2.5-hour ride, reach St. Moritz and step off the train to uncover all that there is to see in this premier ski resort for the glamourous and wealthy. Spend some time window shopping luxury boutiques, grab a drink at a cafe, and keep your eyes peeled for famous folks before returning to your coach and enjoying the ride back to Milan.

The bus ride was a bit too long, maybe we could have explored other cities before getting to Tirano on a train. Once we arrived at Tirano it was amazing, the guide was very funny and knowledgeable (Stefano) and also tried to show things off the beaten track and give a further flavour to what it was already an amazing experience.

The air conditioning did not work at all on the bus the whole ride back. There was significant traffic so the ride took 5 hours, from 4:20 PM to 9:20 PM. Most of this was in 90+ degree heat. Mechanical failures do happen. But the agency managed it poorly. They did not admit to the A/C failure for the first couple of hours until it became clear as we descended into the hotter areas and we confronted the guide. They did not provide any water/drinks and did not offer alternate transportation. I would not book travel again with this agency. The Bernina train ride was nice, but in retrospective DIY would have worked better.
