Where do I begin? I was so excited for this experience and I was really let down. There is a lot to say about the lack of organization, the lackluster “workshop” if you can even call it that, and the fact that I left the experience frustrated and bored. However, I think the most troubling part was the guide’s inexperience, lack of charisma, and poor management of the group. He didn’t even care to learn anyone’s names (he said so himself) nor did he create any camaraderie between different group members. Worst of all, during the walking part of the tour, he didn’t ever look back to make sure we stayed together and were able to follow his lead. He walked fast through the thick crowds in the streets and it was difficult to keep up with him. He didn’t tell us where we were meant to be going in advance, so if you lost him then the tour was over for you. This is exactly what happened to me and others in the group. This was unacceptable on top of an already disappointing experience.

Our guide Eddie was wonderful, he was friendly and engaging the whole tour. He made sure our children tasted chocolates they would enjoy, swapping out some of the more unique ones. While our kids loved the chocolate making workshop, it was really just dunking things in melted chocolate. The tour felt a bit slow and easily could have been completed in half the time but that could have been because we had a small group, I would imagine with a larger group the speed would be fine.

Overall the tour was okay. There are so many chocolate shops but we only visited 4, having 2-3 samples at each. He showed up at the start time, and not early although we were told to be there 15 min early. The chocolate workshop was good however the tour guide seemed to be in a rush to leave, so we did not get to taste the caramel pralines we made. The tour was advertised at being 3.5 hours, and the guide finished it an hour early.

My mom and I had lots of fun on this tour. By the end, we were tired of eating chocolate. You start at a chocolate shop and then tour a little bit of Brussels. The workshop consists of taking melted chocolate and spooning it onto a tray for it to fry. We got to take them home with us and they were yummy! I highly recommend taking this tour if you want a little bit of Brussels history and good chocolate. One negative comment that we have is of the tour guide, Marc. He’s arrogant and wanted to talk about politics the entire tour. He made fun of the creations that we made and put other travelers down as well. It was a bit awkward. He also complained about his kind female workers at the workshop. Very unprofessional in my opinion. Other than the guide, we loved the tour!
