Poor hotel avoid it
Beyond the reception, bar and restaurant this hotel is awful. The room I had was incredibly tired, I would put this at a poor 2 star rating. Chelmsford is not blessed with hotels but I would never stay here again. Insufficient hot water, no soundproofing between floors or between the room ad corridor (the inch gap below the door doesn’t help that). Every time the room above moved you could hear them. I am sure they will put some response saying some rooms are due for upgrading or some such but the room i had is not fit to be sold. I stay in a lot of hotels and this was the worst i have stayed in for a while.

Central Location, Modern Facilities
Good central location, modern facilities in the room including smart TV. Room quiet even though there was a Christmas party downstairs. Would definitely stay there again if I needed to stay in Chelmsford. Close to railway station so I didn't drive but there is car parking available.

Amazing reception staff!
A very warm welcome from the hotel - reception staff amazing! Hotel room was booked due to dinner/disco event - food fantastic and a great night! Sadly the room itself was a little tired but clean and very comfortable bed. Annoyed at lack of hot water in shower and having to "run" the water for approx 10 mins before tepid...However, the hotel staff noted my issue and agreed to investigate. Very accommodating.

The budget doubles are on a VERY BUSY main road and there's heating control in the rooms. Avoid. The staff are excellent. I chose tp upgrsde to avoid the noisy room but yhe staff were really helpful & professional

Very pleased and did the job
Friendly and polite receptionist. Nice clean room with a balcony (16) - was everything I needed for one night stay running the Chelmsford marathon the next day. The only issue I had which wasn’t the hotels fault was I got woke up around 2am by the guests coming back along the corridor loudly and their phones were loud playing music but once they got into the rooms I didn’t hear them anymore

The property was nice - front desk very helpful. Room was stifling hot and no visible way to turn the radiator off in the bathroom. The balcony doors even when locked wobbled and didn’t block out the noise. Breakfast was nice, although they did miss an item off of mine and my friends breakfast but easily remedied. Breakfast was Luke warm. All in all a decent stay for one night.

Stayed in the “new” conversion. Needs a 6 or 8 digit pin to open the door. No good if you need reading glasses. No where to put a towel, or wash bag. Toilet seat is so thin I wondered if it was disposable. Kettle doesn’t fit under the tap. TV doesn’t work, needs to stream via a smart phone, but they don’t tell you that, and assume you have one?. £10 addn deposit for the key! Overall.. Fawlty Towers at best, shocking. As a past customer, they’ve not embraced evolution at all.. on top of that the free car park is now £9 extra.

Thank you for your review.Comparing any hotel to Faulty Towers is a little bit outdated and no longer humorous or of great intellect. The TV is a smart television, which works perfectly fine but does not include Freeview channels. This is certainly mentioned within the description at the stage of booking. We are sorry you did not read the description when you booked.Each room has a water jug supplied for transfer of water from the bathroom taps to kettle. The 10 deposit is refunded once the key is returned.We are sorry you did not like the Budget Room you booked at the cheapest rate. It may be worth spending a little more next time for a Standard Room in the main hotel.Thank you for using our car park and supporting a local independent family business.

Comfort and character
Have stayed there several times as it's close to bus, train and family. There's comfortable space downstairs to sit and relax as I feel a bit cramped in my bedroom. The staff are always friendly and helpful and take time for a quick chat. I like the character of the building, it feels homely although I may ask for a room closer to reception next time as the stairs and corridors are becoming a problem as I get older!

Not a great place to stay
Not a great choice and highly disappointed with the state of the property. The rooms are cramped making it difficult to get to my side of the bed without tripping or hitting the wall; it was an inconvenient maze of a trek going up stairs with heavy luggage to get to my room, (lifts only go up one floor and of course we were on the second floor); outdated, old building with cheap materials. This place is in need of a complete overhaul to meet acceptable standards for travelers, especially given the price.

Had to pay £9 to park in the hotel carpark. No milk in the room, on the 3rd floor noisy people running around corridor. Could hear people showering in other room. Apparently lower floors are better..but on the plus side cheaper than premier inn and travel lodge. Ok for 1nt stay.
