The grounds are well maintained and the pool area is spacious and clean. The hotel is right on the beach. The building is very traditional - half moon shaped with dozens of balconies. The interior of the room (we stayed in 628) is old and ready for an upgrade. The bathroom in particular is old and mouldy. The walls and furniture are damaged with scratches and stains. It’s all way passed its prime. Our bedsheets had little holes here and there. They are making upgrades at the moment, but that will cost the guests their quiet time. We couldn’t stand the drilling and hammering and asked to be moved to another part of the building. A rude doorman made it very clear: no Grab pick-up allowed on hotel grounds!

Een goede service en lokatie prima bus voor de deur om baar georgetown te gaan. Ook heeft het hotel een gratis shuttlebus naar georgetown. In de loungebar heel lief personeel Jalita heeft voor iedere klant een woordje over. Toppie hoor zo hoort het.

Service, netheid en faciliteiten (gym, lounge met AC, zwembaden met badmeester) zijn prima. ‘S ochtends een zeer uitgebreid ontbijt buffet. Het hotel wordt veel bezocht door gezinnen met kinderen. Bepaalde delen van het resort verdienen wat “TLC” (tapijt op de 6e verdieping)

Gezellig familiehotel
Dit bleek een waar famIliehotel te zijn. Er waren erg veel gezinnen met jonge kinderen. Logisch, want er zijn leuke attracties voor de kleintjes rondom het zwembad. Voor echte zwemmers is er echter weinig ruimte. Er is een zwembad voor volwassenen maar dan zwem je rondjes als een goudvis in een kom! De kamer was prima. Wat oubollig misschien, maar het balkon met geweldig uitzicht op zwembad en zee maakt een hoop goed! Wij hadden per abuis zonder ontbijt geboekt, dus daar kan ik niets over zeggen. De ligging is prima. Nabij ATM, restaurants ( een heel goede is :Magic1 schuin aan de overkant). De WiFi in de kamer was matig. De bus ( 101 of 102) brengt je voor weinig geld naar Georgetown, oa het winkelcentrum Gurney. De bushaltes zijn om de paar honderd meter en de bus rijdt heel frequent. Een kaartje koop je bij de chauffeur.

The resort offers a great pool which is excellent for families. Other facilities downstairs are also superb. The rooms themselves are mediocre at best and in need of an update. Bear in mind that a mosque is on the premises and nuisance because of noise may be experienced.

We really enjoyed our stay here. We upgraded to an Executive seaview room and we are glad we did. A great view of the sea and the pool. Breakfasts were good. We loved the pools and the resident lizards. An amazing place for families with young kids with the waterslides on the property. Its also a short walk to the longbeach hawker market and the BoraBora bar! Overall we loved this place. Just a note, we travelled during Ramadan and think it did affect how much was open, esp during the day.

My wife and I had an exceptional stay at the Golden Sands Resort in Penang. This resort is a paradise for water enthusiasts, offering an extensive array of swimming facilities and watersports activities, which you can even negotiate to fit your budget. The dining options available within a short 5 to 10-minute walk are incredibly diverse, catering to a wide range of palates with Indian, Malay, Thai, and Arab/Turkish cuisines. The housekeeping staff deserves special mention for their impeccable service, ensuring our room was always clean and inviting. The breakfast buffet was a daily highlight, offering a varied selection from continental dishes to local specialties, providing a taste of Penang's rich culinary heritage. I wholeheartedly recommend the Golden Sands Resort to anyone looking to immerse themselves in the beauty and culture of Penang. Attractions such as the Entopia Butterfly Park and Escape Theme Park are conveniently close, enhancing our experience. Moreover, the availability of Grab (the local equivalent of Uber) made exploring Penang, including the historical Georgetown, both easy and enjoyable. This stay has left a lasting impression on us, making it a holiday we will always cherish. Although I do not have any children at the moment, it is a very child-friendly resort. I will certainly bring my children here in the future when I have some.

Property wear out seriously, food so so, food selection less, parking limited and far but buggy service available (need to wait for turn 10-15min on peak), room partitions was bad as can hear next room noise. Chairs on beach wont re arrange daily. Beach was public with half man made sand.

The soundproofing in the room is in need of improvement. We were situated in a lower floor just above an area heavy with staff movements and the noise from there was quite inconvenient. The beach is beautiful..The pool is lovely…The staff are excellent….however the rooms & bathrooms were old and outdated. Also the sofa in the room was not vacuumed properly..when we lifted the cushions you could see the dirt and dust. We were also disappointed that the breakfast was cleared by 10.30am whereas it said that it was on till 11am. On the 1st when they couldn’t cope at the garden cafe and asked us to go to Ziggys for breakfast, it was a huge disappointment regarding the variety & quantity of food over there.

Great experience staying at Golden Sands. Friendly and accomodating staff, convenient location for local shops, eateries, massages, atm and night markets. Bathrooms and rooms were clean and beds were comfortable. The hotel itself is on the older side and could do with a slight update, maybe even just a coat of paint. Would definitely recommend staying here. Huge variety at the breakfast buffet with numerous options catering to all dietary requirements. No need to leave the facility as everything was there. Pool facilities were amazing with multiple pools for different age groups with slides as well. Property backs on to the beach with amazing watersport options eg. Jetskiing, parasailing, donut boat riding, banana boat riding. Had an amazing family holiday, nice and relaxing as well as action packed.

We were hoping to spend a nice and luxurious Christmas weekend at this hotel I always heard good things about Shangri La hotels in general. We paid en excess of US$ 700 for 2 nights and didn’t even get breakfast included. The room was dirty and simple for the price we paid. We were told the Christmas’s Eve dinner would include Turkey as per request yet it ended up to be a simple 4 * BBQ buffet. As you can observe from the pictures the room was not at all cleaned well. And the night of arrival one of the 2 elevators had dirty napkins, receipts and a used mask on the floor which I quietly pointed out to reception and the next day around noon it was still dirty. Overall sadly enough not at all what I expected. Sorry but I do travel a lot around the world I love being in Malaysia but disappointed

Would like to commend Ms Jalita as she have rendered great service while we are having our breakfast buffet. She constantly looked after our needs such as assisting to fill our beverages and checking if we are satisfied with the food. On the other hand the room service fish n chips was really good and the garden salad was fresh , fish was tender n juicy. We have a wonderful stay here will surely return on our next vacations early next year.

The room conditions is aging and the design old school. When first time I check in the room and the mattress cover and comforter had some small dry blood signs and some look like fresh blood. I feel uncomfortable and request hotel to change the comforters and quilt. Further, I feel the bath room should renovate and other furnitures look very old.

Negatief: Voorzieningen, staat van de accommodatie en faciliteiten
No hot water the 1st night. Air conditioner leaked badly the 2nd night and 3rd day. Toilet wouldn’t flush.
