Great stay
This was our second time to stay at the Bitterroot Trout Farm! It was like coming home. Everything about this house and the surrounding property is beautiful and relaxing. The house has very comfortable furniture and comfortable beds and there are views of the beautiful outdoors from every room and from the porches and decks. There is so much natural beauty to see and enjoy… apple trees, pine trees, flowers, ponds, creeks, deer, quail, muskrats, wild turkey, chipmunks, sandhill crane, ducks, geese and more When you walk the property, you can see even more… forested areas with the sun glistening through the leaves, the Bitterroot River, fish, frogs, and views of the Bitterroot Mountains. We even came across some elk. After the sun went down, there was plenty of entertainment inside the house with puzzles, games, lots of books and NetFlix. We also enjoyed the surrounding area… golfing at the Hamilton Golf Club and the Stevensville Whitetail Golf Club, fishing along the east and west forks of the Bitterroot River, and learning about Lewis and Clark’s journey through the Bitterroot Valley. Another treat was that the Ravalli County Fair and Rodeo was going on… great food, lots of fun, and we learned a lot about the ranching skills and traditions in the valley. Thank you for welcoming us again at the Bitterroot Trout Farm and making our trip so enjoyable!!

Tranquil and beautiful ranch

A bit of paradise….
What a beautiful spot. Geese, deer, owls, and ducks literally outside my door. Private trout pond produced several trout which were released for the next guest to catch. Simply sitting on the porch was sooooo relaxing. Enjoyed everything about the house. I have promised Bob that I will be back again next summer.

Trout house
We really enjoyed our stay at the Trout house. The house was clean and the turtles greeted us on our arrival. Bob was so helpful about telling us places to visit and places to eat. We will definitely recommend this to family and friends.

A family vacation.
The property was perfect for our family vacation. The kids fished in the pond, played in the beautifully green yard and on the spacious deck. The weather was warm and sunny so we all had a great time. It was magical. We would definitely book this property again.

Fantastic
What a wonderful property. It has everything you need for a comfortable stay in Hamilton. Could sit on the deck all day and view the wildlife. We saw deer, racoons, geese, ducks, osprey, American bald eagle, turtles, south west crane, great heron and an owl. This is the most well stocked VRBO we have ever stayed at. The new carpeting is very luxurious. The pictures of this home do not do it justice. Bob was very nice and informative. We enjoyed our stay.

Can’t say enough threat things about this beautiful property. Quite, clean, and had everything we needed. This place was amazing. Peaceful and space to breathe
Not many places ypu can rent like this one where you can go for hikes on beautiful private property in all directions. Look one way and you see beautiful tree and grass covered hills look the other way amd you see the rockies. I could have sat by the lake all day and watched the eagles and wildlife all around. Bob is a fantastic help if you need and a great source of local knowledge. The decor is classic retro very comfortable. We highly recommend this place.

As always, a great place with great people
Bob and Rae are just great hosts and this property is one of my favorite places on Earth to visit. I look forward to coming back each time. Heaven on earth. The home is dated in the absolute best ways! Older woodwork and stone work make you feel right at home like Grandma's, BUT the amenities are there as well. The views are world class, and the wildlife is all over. Geese, pheasant, moose, elk, deer, ducks, and on and on. I love this place like home.

You can see my previous review. This is my favorite property in the area that I have stayed in. Booked it twice now and Bob and Rae have been phenomenal hosts both times. The property manager Bob was amazing, full of information and so friendly! The pond was in poor shape, we caught no trout, only Northern Pike minnows. The walk to the river was not to far, but had to go through some high weeds to get there. We caught a few trout on the river. The house is on major need of updates. The carpet was badly stained and the wiring is out of date and finding the correct switch for which lights was a chore. No kitchen table to eat at either. It did grow on us and we had a nice stay.

What an amazing property. The house is a throw back to another era, and it reminded me of my childhood. It has the amenities you would want in modern life, but it is such a warm and welcoming place. From just relaxing on the deck watching the deer and ducks to playing cards with my family, this property allowed us to spend time together in a way we haven't in a long time. The host was FANTASTIC! He took care of anything we needed, helped the kids pick apples from the trees, took the time to teach them about elk, and just really was a friendly face any time we saw him. We will not only book here again, but we will come here SPECIFICALLY for this property, and we are from Tennessee, so that is saying a lot that we would fly across the country just to stay here again.... and again..... and again. You will not go wrong here.

Great cabin at the end of the property right in front of a lake. The property was well stocked from sheets and extra blankets, cleaning supplies, all kitchen & bathroom items, etc. There were also some games and puzzles as well as Netflix and a variety of DVDs. I appreciated that there were even kid items such as some kids plastic plates and utensils. We had a great stay. We rented this while visiting family nearby and would definitely stay there again.

Home away from home
Wonderful home, with hosts that truly went above and beyond for our stay! They were so very thoughtful and went out of their way to make our stay comfortable and our days fun. The home included everything we could have possibly needed, big and small. Our boys loved exploring the property, paddling around the pond in the row boat and canoe, skipping rocks, and spending time with the property manager Bob - who had some great stories to tell about the area. We felt like we were visiting family and were sad to leave when it was time to go! Can't wait to plan a return trip to this beautiful part of Montana and to this lovely home. Don't forget to stop by Hamilton Packing on the way in/out of town. Delicious meats!

Hidden Gem
What a wonderful spot. I booked this trip several months in advance, and it was far better than my expectations. It was so private and relaxing. The pond was awesome for my little boys to fish and have a lot of fun. Abundance of wildlife, we even saw a young moose right at the property. The cherry on top was the care taker of the property that lives below the house. Bob was amazing, such a friendly person and was full of knowledge and laughs. 5/5. Highly recommended this for your bitterroot vacation!

Relaxing fishing getaway with great access to the Bitterroot
The perfect destination for a bit of a reunion/fishing trip with some great friends. We were excited to find great walking access to the 'root and a couple of good fishing days just a 15 minute walk away. The rest of the river and all the great water the Missoula area has to offer is within an hour. The place has ample sleeping space and some nice hang-out options including a fun poker table. The property manager Bob was staying on-site and was able to answer some questions and help with anything we needed. The property has a trout pond (which we didn't try too hard on), and we saw herons, numerous Canadian geese, elk, deer, osprey.

Great stay for a family
Our family had a great time staying at this property for 10 days. The property itself is wonderful with lots of big trees, a pond, a lovely enclosed yard, and only 10 minutes drive into Hamilton one way and Darby the other. Our two boys (ages 12 and 9) loved boating on the pond, biking around the property, playing badminton, etc. I loved sitting on the sunporch and listening to the birds. The house is definitely vintage--it is almost overwhelmingly 1960s/1970s when you walk in--but we expected that from the photos. It was very clean, well stocked, and comfortable. The beds were comfortable, which is important! There is a caretaker who lives in the downstairs apartment, which was nice to have someone to ask questions, but he was unobtrusive and lives in an entirely separate space. Overall, we just had a great time, love this part of Montana, and will likely stay there again next summer because we had such a great time.

Great weekend in Montana
We had a great stay at the little house by the pond. The house was very clean, lots of room and amazing treasures to see. We loved the vintage camera collection. The owners provided lots of extra touches- a binder with information about the house and the area, drinking water and a few snacks. The setting was excellent. We loved sitting outside and seeing millions of stars. We were lucky enough to be here during a meteor shower so lots of shooting stars. All in all, the was an excellent stay. I highly recommend

Bitterroot Trout Farm is the Last Best Place.
This property was absolutely amazing! Our grandkids fished, explored, ran through the sprinkler, ate in a great screened in porch and all three of them cried when we had to leave. The rooms were clean and extremely comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked and the library there was extensive. We even found some bathtub toys for bathtime. Overall we will stay here over a over again. Bob, the caretaker, joined us for dinner and was full of great stories. A wonderful trip!

Classic Montana
Hamilton is clearly growing in popularity, this location is just a short drive off the Highway but very quickly removes you from the bustling day to day activity and delivers you back into Classic Montana. The property sits on a beautiful pond surrounded by active nature, we saw deer and wild turkeys during our stay. The home was clean and well stocked with everything you need to enjoy your stay.

Loved our time at this home and in Hamilton. Caught fish from the pond and near by streams on the property. We needed to leave a day early for a mixup at work, but all in all we would go back. Ps. Some of the books(TV area) look like mold maybe starting to form, a dehumidifier might work to preserve those old texts.

Homey house and entertaining outdoors
We had the most wonderful family vacation on this marvelous property! We were able to relax and enjoy the beauty all around us. The outdoors offered all the joys of being surrounded by nature… strolling in the woods and along the creek and around the pond, walking to the Bitterroot River and watching the children play in the sandy beach, feeding the horses that were visiting, fishing off the dock of the big pond and in the other little ponds, running in the soft green grass of the backyard, eating apples off the apple trees, sitting on the back deck and waiting for the fawn twins to approach, and even sitting on the bench by the pond and watching the moon rise over the hill. The house was very homey and, even when we were inside, we still enjoyed the outdoors through all the many large windows, and the back and side decks, and the delightful screened in porch. The kitchen was so well equipped and we ate most of our meals at “home”. There were toys for the children and games and puzzles for the adults. There was even a piano that we enjoyed playing. The owner and caretaker are extremely thoughtful and helpful. It is clear that this home and land has collected many happy family memories over the decades as witnessed by the history and stories in the many books around the house, in the photos in the stairway, and in the many details that have been collected over the years like the owl decal on the kitchen light switch, the binoculars and bird-watching guide on the kitchen shelf, and the fire chief hat in the front room. Those fond memories were all over the house and added to our enjoyment as well. Thank you for sharing your home and land and memories with us. We certainly made many happy memories of our own.

Hidden Gem of the Bitterroot
Driving down Highway 93, you would never know this special property sits tucked back in the trees, just off the Bitterroot River. The house includes all the necessary amenities, but the real treasure is what's outside the door. It's the type of place you can keep the kids entertained all day long and never have to load up in the car to go find something to do. Rowing around the pond and catching turtles was a definite highlight for our little ones. The fenced yard makes it easy to relax knowing the kids are safe from ending up in the water and the adults can enjoy sitting on the front deck watching the wildlife (preferably in the evening with cocktail in hand). It really seems like the ideal location for a wedding or a writer/artist retreat, and is a birdwatcher's paradise. If you love the outdoors and the opportunity to unplug like we do, you could not ask for a more ideal location. Plus, the hosts are amazing and left us some yummy Montana treats. We will definitely be back!
