Het hotel ligt middenin het gezellige centrum. Zeer goed ontbijt. Netjes en goede service, ook vriendelijk. Een minpuntje was dat parkeren lastig was. Dit had mede te maken met de periode waarin we verbleven, er vond een jaarlijks evenement van een paar dagen plaats.

In the Obidos old town, next to the wall. 70,000 books. Books are everywhere. Breakfast is fabulous. Few min walking to the attractions. Water is not hot enough for shower.

The staff at The Literary Man were first rate. It a great concept with a laid back atmosphere and books lining almost every wall. We ate dinner elsewhere, but the breakfast was a hearty buffet. They could use a bit better WIFI connectivity (a minor point). Remember that you’re in a repurposed cabin convent. Very cool looking, but not North American corporate slick (which for some may be an issue). We’d stay here again.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

We love The Literary Man! The staff is SO nice (both the front desk and the restaurant). We recommend the restaurant. It’s a beautiful room and the food was excellent. The room we stayed in was quiet and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was a little rustic - the facilities were nice (and a big shower with great water pressure), but there is only a curtain closure (no door). We definitely recommend this hotel. And it’s right next to the Obidos wall, with easy access up some stairs. A great find.

This is an outstanding hotel! The welcome is warm and the service is gracious. The book theme is everywhere, and there's a reason for it - ask! The rooms are large and although modern, retain some of their historic flavour. The bed was beyond comfy. I absolutely love this place!

Amazing atmosphere
The dining room is amazing! What a crazy idea to have all those books. It gives a special atmosphere. Service was excellent and breakfast pretty good. However our room was kind of damp and no door for the toilets, that is kind of weird.

Not good!
Disappointed! Photos on website are deceiving. Property is a beautiful building that is run down, old carpets, painted bathroom floor is peeling, dirty. Found an old ticket dated 1-2 September under the bed and it is 31 December! The bathroom “door” is a flimsy curtain. Mattress was uncomfortable. The miniature “safe” is from the previous century and not bolted to the wall, so any criminal can carry it out of the room. The fridge is also a miniature for only 3 cans. Parking is a problem as you need to find street parking somewhere! Breakfast! Well the fruit was old and not fit for human consumption, pineapple was discoloured and apples soft and old. Not a great breakfast. As a VIP gold member we did not get our free bottle of wine and upon check out we queried it. Only the did they give us the wine bottle. Not recommended!

About breakfast we always have fresh fruit and all of our cakes are homemade, juices and jams aswell. About the safe and sofas we've kept the original furniture from 1830 the time this hotel was a convent, so they look old but they are also historical pieces. We love the concept, but it just isn’t a great stay in reality. The rooms are so musty smelling and moist, there were stains on our sheets, the Wi-Fi only worked in the lobby, and there was no plug so we couldn’t get enjoy the bathtub. The food was great and the idea is lovely, but I was very uncomfortable staying here because of how wet it smelled and felt in our room.

Was a former convent so very interesting. Filled with books. Rooms were very interesting. Simple but fit into the environment. The breakfast was delicious and the restaurant was beautiful. Highly recommend this hotel.

Charmant hôtel si on a une bonne chambre..
Hotel unique dans sa décoration, il.ne laisse pas indifférent. La salle de petit déj (dîner possible également) est très jolie et cosy. Le.ptit déj est très bien garni. Mais il y a un grand MAIS: nous avons dû demander 2 changements de chambre jusqu'à en obtenir une qui ne sente pas le moisi... ces 2 premières chambres n'ont apparemment jamais été aérées et des moisissures devait être présentes. Etant côte a côte, celà est peut être un problème d'une partie de l'hôtel seulement, quoique certains couloirs sentent un peu aussi le renfermé/moisi. Recommandation: débarquer sans réservation fixe et demander à voir (et sentir!) la chambre.

Unique experience!
Easy to arrive, just outside the medieval wall and next to a side entry to the city. Hotel in a very good condition for a two century building! Nice room and cool bath. A unique experience in Obidos.

Parking is very hard in that area and hotel doesn’t have parking space . No elevators or staff to help with luggage, our room was 3rd floor and we had to climb 44 stairs to carry our luggage up and our check out down . Location is excellent as sightseeing. Staff were nice . Breakfast was okay to good , and free . Food in Restaurant for dinner was excellent, we had to pay for that.

The hotel was lovely - especially if you have any interest in literature. The walls are lined with over 50,000 books. It creates a remarkably warm background as well as a natural curiosity about the collection of books. The room accommodations were very basic. The location to the walls of Obidos are fabulous. The highlight of the hotel is the dining room and the chef’s preparation of delicious food. It was an amazing creative dinner. Highly recommended for the food.

Rooms are musty like the books everywhere and outdated and small. Hard beds and carpet that needs to GO. On the plus side, staff is very friendly and parking was easy and close (by Portugal standards anyway). It has a lot of character and just needs some love in the interior to get 5 stars!

Positief: Personeel en service
An unusual hotel in a great location. Facilities a little basic/ tired, but everything worked. Staff very friendly and available. Communal spaces (lobby, dining, library) were quirky and fun. Good restaurants close by and easy access to the old center of Obidos. Good value and happy to recommend.
