Quite right, we do not have A/C throughout the Palace Hotel; however, the rooms facing south at the front of the hotel do have A/C and we are working towards more of our rooms having A/C installed. In the past, our Maritime climate was such that our summer temperatures were pleasant and cool; things are changing. We hear from our guests that the downtown central location is perfect for walking to restaurants, galleries and the shops. We do have loads of stairs at the Palace Hotel, and no elevator. In fact it's 15 steps to Miss Genevieve #15 on the MZ, 33 steps to the first floor and 66 steps to the second floor. Due to the historic age of the property, the ceilings are extra-high, and the stair climb to reach the guestrooms is intense. Our hotel is certainly quite an unique experience, and we agree, "You have to experience it to appreciate it". Quite right, this heritage hotel doesn't have an elevator; we do have a fit and able-bodied front desk team who spring into action when asked, carrying guest luggage...just inquire at the front desk. We are in the process of installing A/C; all of the rooms on the water-side of the building (the front of the hotel) have A/C. Hello Jodi: Many thanks for your valuable feedback. We are an historic hotel (1899) and we are aware that sound can travel through some of our guestrooms. We have a "Quiet Hours Policy". Quiet hours are observed from 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM. During these hours, guests must limit noise both in common areas and rooms to a level that does not disturb other guests in the hotel. We are very sorry that the noise was noticeable and that you had to turn on a box fan to provide "white noise". Please don't hesitate to inform us at the front desk if you have any issues; our team responds immediately to any concerns you may have. Our apologies for any restaurant odors that you detected. Hillbottom Pie is a wonderful restaurant (wood-fire pizza, soups, salads and pie) located in the Tibbals building where the Palace Hotel resides. We are in the process of placing new odor-removing fans in the guestrooms adjacent the restaurant; however, the "musty cabbage smell" is another issue. We will dispatch our head housekeeper to investigate and resolve that issue. Thank you very much for drawing these problems to our attention. There are oodles of interesting shops, high-quality restaurants and hip coffee shops within walking distance. Our location makes for a relaxed visit.
