I have a series of frustrations but also grave concerns regarding this property.
It was very difficult to find the driveway when we arrived after dark. Would be helpful to have more specific directions on that, such as: “narrow, steep driveway right before parking lot along street.”
When we first were getting settled in, we had a lot of difficulty using the TV in the back bedroom. When we texted the contact, we were asked whether the cable box was plugged in. Well, there is no cable box attached to that TV. We finally figured out, on our own, how to reconnect the TV to the wi-fi so that we could access streaming services. There should be instructions provided on how to use that TV.
The size and layout of the bathroom make it very difficult to use. It was also evident that water is getting behind the bathtub set up which is not hygienic.
There was confusion regarding our checkout even after we had paid the additional charge for late checkout. At one point, we were told that the cleaning staff would be arriving at 10am. Thankfully we were able to clear that up, but frustrating to even have that confusion.
Now, to the grave concerns—
Our last morning at the property, we discovered a large number of ants in the kitchen after having a takeout container on the counter for about five minutes. We reported this to the contact, and were told someone would be coming by to address the ant issue. We asked that the issue be addressed after we checked out since it was our last morning, and I was on a series of back to back online meetings. My husband, who is a contractor, then noticed the source/type of ants - moisture ants which require wet/warm wood to nest in - streaming up from below the countertop which has no backsplash and is not caulked/sealed to the wall. There is also visible black mold growing on the wall next to the refrigerator and behind the cabinetry. We sent pictures to the contact immediately. Frankly, these are signs of potentially serious structural issues, not to mention very real health issues.
This feedback is based on multiple stays in VRBO properties without ever having these types of issues. Frankly, given the serious nature of these issues, I am requesting a full refund of the cost of our two-night stay.
