We are sorry the bugs were so bad the week you were here - the fans typically do a great job of keeping bugs at bay if any do get inside the fully-screened in cottage. I will note the island had just had several weeks with above average rainfall which led to above average bugs being around island-wide. The screens do keep out the bugs, but it’s inescapable that some will get in when you enter and exit the cottage. This is true wherever you stay on St. John. The cottage is located within 2 miles (less than a 5 min drive) from all that Coral Bay has to offer, including Skinny Legs, Rhumblines, several grocery stores and boutiques. It takes about 15 mins to reach Maho or Francis Bay on the north shore for a beautiful beach day. We do recommend renting a car as we don’t feel comfortable walking along Centerline Road down into Coral Bay and nice to have a car to get up the hill to the house. The cottage has screened windows on all four sides, allowing for good air flow whenever there is a breeze (which is most of the time), so we find that AC is not necessary in our location. If AC is a requirement, our cottage is not for you, but our guests have always found that the fans work just fine!
