We always love Hotel Monaco. Interesting property/architecture and free wine hour are always the best. This trip we were out on the lower floor for the first time hallways underground and our room smelled like mildew. This hasn’t been typical with previous stays which was a shame.

I reserved a premium room with a king bed and seemed to have gotten the “essential” room with a queen bed. The sink in the bathroom was clogged and the toilet wasn’t flushing properly. We also had a food delivery to the front desk where the front desk asked us if we want them to bring it up for us, we said yes and waited 20 minutes just to go down ourselves and see it still there for pick up. The location was great and central to all the tourist destinations and museums but the hotel itself is definitely not worth the price. There are many other hotels in the area that may be a better choice.

Beautiful old Post Office turned into a hotel. My biggest complaint was the water in our room. After a night of being at a concert at Capitol One Arena, a shower is a must. Unfortunately the water in the bathroom either ran scolding hot or cold. There was no hope of getting it to just warm. At 1 a.m. we just gave up and would try again before departing. No luck, same story. Upon check out when asked how our stay was, I mentioned the water and it seemed like the issue came as no surprise and we were told to have a nice day. The hotel is nicely decorated but falls short on amenities.

When checking in the staff at the front desk was not very hospitable and made you feel like you were a burden. However, when checking out the gentleman that was assisting me was very helpful and friendly.

Enjoyed my brief stay. Clean, well appointed room. Lion sculpture above the bed and Alexander Hamilton bust in the corner. Free wine at happy hour. Great service in the restaurant. I’d stay there again!

Just a little too hip for its own good. I liked the vaulted ceiling in my room; didn't love the giant lion's head mounted above the bed, and grateful that this property isn't in an earthquake zone. Also didn't love the toilet that took 3 tries to flush even toilet paper; the literally block-long walk to get to my room (and no closer way in, although I could exit thru a side door) and no coffee maker in the room, nor in the lobby on Sunday until 8:30am. Also wasn't so happy that there's a full flight of stairs to lug your bags up to get into the hotel, and there isn't anyone standing outside to ask if you need help. Even in the lobby when i left, no one thought to offer me help carrying my full-size suitcase back down the stairs. To top it off, breakfast was downright depressing. I was the only one there at 7:30 in the morning, yet I was uncomfortably seated in the bar area rather than a normal table (because I was alone? but there was literally no one at any of the other tables...) My breakfast, which to their credit they did comp, included the worst eggs benny I've ever experienced-- poached eggs with the yolks a little gelled (like they sat in a sous-vide bag or something) and felt like a cold jellyfish in the mouth; equally cool and kinda damp english muffin; tiny dollop of thin hollandaise. Eeeyuck, hope the other entrees were better.

Great DC location
This hotel is in an elegant, historic building in a very walkable part of Washington. Its close to many major landmarks, and the restaurant and bar attract not just tourists but locals too. We will definitely stay here again when we visit DC.

This is the second time I’ve stayed at this property in the last 5 months. The first time, it was absolutely incredible. The staff was amazing and it was the only reason I came back to this hotel for this trip. The staff, specifically the lady at the front desk was horrible! She was rude and not welcoming. The toilet in the room had dried urine on the seat. Overall, I’m reminded that staff make or break the experience. I probably won’t be coming back, there are plenty hotels in the area. Just bummed out how different the experiences were. One amazing, where we decided we’d only want to stay at that hotel to this time where I don’t imagine we’d come back. Extremely disappointed.

I was excited to book this property having used the bar many times when I lived in DC around the time the hotel opened. The “first floor” is underground and has no windows. The room has little to no amenities. Coffee machine broken, replacement machine which came hour later came with wrong pods. Additional incorrect pods came after another hour long wait in the morning. Both bar areas were closed for a private event and unusable. None of the phone lines to room service or restaurant worked from the hotel room. Would book the Riggs instead - amazing bar there.

The hotel is an old building so it had a smell once you get to the rooms, It’s not a modern hotel. My initial room was not thoroughly cleaned. A used cup and a used face mask was left in the room. The staff was very friendly and accommodating and switch my room. Overall not a fan of this particular hotel.
