Disappointing stay at the Roebuck Hotel

On arrival I chatted to a wonderful brunette lady on the Reception - if everything else had been as wonderful as her warm welcome this would be an amazing hotel! I was in room 10, single occupancy, staying 3 nights while attending a Training Course nearby. The room itself was a nice size, however the phone did not work so would have had to walk to Reception to order room service etc. The bathroom left a lot to be desired, the fittings were very old, caked with limescale and unsightly stains/marks, rusty metal. I could not enjoy a relaxing bath as the bath was just not a relaxing place to be!! I was very disappointed to be told on the first night that I could not eat in the restaurant as they couldn't guarantee gluten free food, I was told that the packaging was missing and that the food could end up being cross contaminated. So I paid extra to stay in a hotel that had a restaurant so I could eat on a night after my course, yet ended up eating food purchased from Sainsbury's! I didn't have a hot meal or a breakfast on any of the 3 nights stay, very annoying. The bed was however comfortable and the hotel quiet. The room was dusty around the edges, the fixtures and fittings were worn and dated, but it was adequate. On the second day I returned to find my room door OPEN. The cleaner had been in and left the door open, with my laptop in the room! Thank god the hotel was quiet and nobody tried their luck! Really disappointed with my stay.
