There’s a moment that happens when you pull up the drive and the blue house appears through the live oaks — and another when you walk inside and the color hits you. Enjoy a relaxing blue green atmosphere where your whole family can snuggle up and watch a movie on the 75” tv and share meals at the large farmhouse table and kitchen bar seating. Retro tiled baths in seaside blues, yellows, and blush pink. A lime-green lounge in the game room and a red karaoke curtain waiting for its next star. This isn’t beige beach-house decor — it’s a house that feels like vacation the second you walk in.

Pine Knoll Shores is one of the Crystal Coast’s best-kept secrets — quieter than Emerald Isle, less developed than Atlantic Beach, wrapped in maritime forest and fronted by wide, uncrowded sand. Salt & Serenity sits in the heart of it, on the peaceful sound side of the island, with the beach a five-minute walk away and everything else a short drive.

Load up the beach cart, walk to the end of the street, cross NC-58, and you’re on the sand. That’s the whole commute. Prefer to drive? Guests of Salt & Serenity get private beach parking at Hammer Park, so beach days never start with circling a public lot. Chairs, boards, and the umbrella are already here — bring sunscreen and a good book, and the rest is handled. Pine Knoll Shores’ beaches are the quiet kind: wide, clean, and never elbow-to-elbow.

🎮 The Game Room — An Entire Floor of Fun

The garage at Salt & Serenity has been transformed into the room your group will talk about on the drive home. A full-size shuffleboard table anchors one end. A red stage curtain and karaoke rig turn any evening into a show. Shelves are stacked with the classics — Scrabble, Yahtzee, Monopoly, puzzles, Twister — and a lime-green lounge with its own TV gives spectators somewhere to heckle from.

Best of all, it runs on its own supply line: a bar with a water cooler, dedicated fridge and a second coffee and water station, so the morning’s first cup and the evening’s cold drinks never require a trip upstairs. The room is fully heated and cooled — just keep the garage doors closed in summer and it stays perfectly crisp even in August. All three downstairs bedrooms connect right to it, which makes the lower level its own self-contained hangout zone for the kids, the night owls, or the whole bachelor(ette) party.

Cooking for fourteen is only fun in a kitchen built for it. This one was just renovated top to bottom — crisp white cabinetry with brass pulls, a sea-blue tile backsplash, and acres of quartz counter space, including an island with bistro seating where the tacos disappear as fast as you can plate them. The induction cooktop, dual oven/microwave, and Ninja air-fry combo mean three cooks can work at once, and the double pantry swallows a full week of groceries for a full house. Coffee drinkers get both K-cups and a full carafe (sugar and creamer provided, extra carafe in the pantry), and the living room drink fridge keeps cold ones within arm’s reach of the sofa.

The main floor is one big, light-filled gathering space wrapped in windows that look into the live oak canopy. A deep navy sectional and velvet armchairs circle the fireplace, the window seat is made for a lazy afternoon read, and the long farmhouse table seats the whole crew for dinner — with island stools for the overflow. Glass doors open straight onto the sun deck, so the party flows outside as easily as it gathers inside.

Bedroom 2 — Upstairs Queen: Queen bed wrapped in stunning blue palm-frond wallpaper, TV, dressers, closet, and a dedicated work desk for the one who `just has one call.`

Bedroom 3 — Downstairs King: King bed, dresser, closet, and a second work desk — remote workers, you’re covered twice over.

Bedroom 4 — Downstairs King: King bed, dressers, two closets, and a tasteful design

Bedroom 5 — Downstairs Queen: Queen bed, dresser, and closet, styled in cheerful coastal teals and oranges.

Bedroom 6 — The Kids Bunk Room: The room your kids will brag about — a twin-over-queen bunk plus a twin trundle daybed (4 beds in one room), TV and games, a classic white fireplace (decorative), kids games galore, and its own door to the backyard.

Every bath has its own personality — from breezy ocean-blue tile to a retro blush-pink charmer — and every bedroom has a hair dryer waiting. Linen closets are stocked with sheets, towels, and beach towels, so pack light.

🚤 Boaters Welcome — Private Ramp Access

This is the rare beach rental where the boat gets to come too. Guests of Salt & Serenity have access to McNeil Park’s private community boat ramp on the sound, with dedicated truck and trailer parking. Launch in the morning, fish the sound or run the inlet, and be back for burgers on the deck by six.

Pine Knoll Shores is the stretch of Bogue Banks that locals quietly hope stays a secret — maritime forest, wide beaches, and no boardwalk crowds. The NC Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores, one of the best on the East Coast, is just up the road and worth a full morning with the kids. The Atlantic Beach Town Circle’s restaurants and shops are a short drive east, and the Morehead City waterfront — fresh seafood, waterfront dinners, charter docks — is a short drive as well. Everything is close. Nothing feels crowded.

THE GAME ROOM: Located in the converted garage — fully heated and cooled. In summer, please keep the garage doors closed to keep the cool air in. The three downstairs bedrooms connect directly to the game room. The bar area includes a fridge and a second coffee station.

FIREPLACES: The fireplaces in the living room and bunk room are decorative only and not for use.

BEACH GEAR: Beach cart, 8 beach chairs, 2 skim boards, boogie board, small kids umbrella, and 1 bike are provided.

LINENS: Sheets, towels, and beach towels are provided in the linen closets. Hair dryers in every bedroom.

BOATS & TRAILERS: Please inquire if you are planning on bringing a boat for parking and community boat ramp access.

HOUSE RULES: No smoking. Maximum 14 guests. Please be respectful of the quiet, residential character of Pine Knoll Shores — quiet hours apply in the evenings.
