Pooch friendly perfection!
Four humans and one dog stayed at the BRH while in town for a canoe race! The house was welcoming and perfectly clean. Plenty of towels, blankets and a kitchen stocked with appliances that we cooked in. Nice neighborhood for dog walks and easy to get to grocery stores! Check in and out process was seamless and everything was accurately represented! Would certainly highly recommend!!

Great stay in Bangor!
The house was beautiful and well-maintained, and had ample space for four adults and a large dog. Cindy was responsive and helpful throughout our stay, from check-in until the time we left. We felt welcomed from the moment we stepped into the Big Red House and truly enjoyed our “home away from home”!

Very pleasant in every way
This home was a great size, very nicely decorated, and the property owner was SO accommodating! All these things made our stay so pleasant. Just fyi, the age of the place lent to a musty smell but we opened windows and that solved it! Also, fyi, one bathroom has a shower and the other has a bathtub. It all worked out fine as we all took turns in the shower. If we are in the area, we will visit this place again.

Property was well maintained. One concern is the claw tub/shower in the upstairs bathroom. It is an awkward and treacherous. situation since the tub is very high. It is difficult to hold onto anything due to the manner in which the shower curtain is installed. Possibly adding a grab bar would be helpful.

Thank you for the 5-star review, Dorothy! I always used to hold onto the tub itself as support. We're so sorry that you had trouble with it. We try to maintain the authentic feel of the 19th century with many original parts still in the house, which was built c. 1869. The tub downstairs is much easier to get into (for an old-fashioned bath) with the support of the wall. We are glad you loved the house for all its other charming features. Please come back and stay at the Big Red House again. You are welcome any time!

Lovely home
We were in Bangor for the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame ceremony, and couldn’t have picked a better place to stay for a few days. The home was very comfortable and had everything you could need. The host was very responsive! As a fan of Stephen King, I also like the proximity of his Bangor home to the Big Red House. I will plan to stay here again when I return to Bangor!

Stately home
Was fun staying in a home built in the latter 1800s. The kitchen though was completely modern. The home was quite clean and near to the sites we wished to see in Bangor.

In town for a biking event, start/finish was just down the street at the waterfront. Able to walk or ride to all the festivities. Very convenient location and was a home away from home

Great centrally located spot in Bangor for small or large groups!
We stayed at the big red house for our wedding weekend. Plenty of space for the girls to get ready the day of the ceremony and also plenty of space for friends and family to stay afterwards! The BRH is located so close to pretty much everything the Bangor area has to offer and offered so much space and accomodations. The place was clean and the neighborhood was quiet, the host Cindy was great! 10/10!

We loved the BRH!
Communication was pleasant and spot on from the the time we booked to the time we left. Beautiful house and neighborhood. Enjoyed walking the neighborhood and very close to Stephen Kings property! Easy drive to Acadia and Bar Harbor. Super fast to get to airport and you can walk to downtown restaurants and shopping. Would definitely stay here again! Thank you! ♥️

The Big Red House brought out all our favorite memories of European B&Bs without having to share space with anyone. Rooms were - even better - than pictured. Spacious (really really spacious). Blinds perfect for late sleepers. Terrific kitchen.

Homecoming with Friends
We found this property while looking for a place for 6 friends meeting up for Homecoming at UMaine. At the time the property listed sleeping for 5, but the property owners helped out and added an additional twin bed before we arrived. The house was clean, and well furnished inside. Check-in and check-out were easy. The house is interestingly designed. Bedrooms upstairs can only be accessed through other bedrooms or a bathroom, and everything seems to connect to each other. It's definitely unique.

You all are welcome back, any time. The house is definitely unique with the connecting bedrooms - each bedroom does have separate entrances as well as connectors. Each bedroom has two doors and the bathroom stands alone with two doors as well. It can sometimes feel like a maze, for sure. I think I counted 22 doors and 25 windows total in the entire house! The Big Red House is Charming
I have nothing but praise for the Big Red House and Cindy. We had plenty of room for four adults and 2 dogs. The beds were very comfortable, the kitchen was a great place to hang out…I especially enjoyed the window seats. All of my communications with Cindy were pleasant, informative and all questions/concerns promptly addressed. On arrival we were greeted by a plate of muffins and a very nice note on the chalkboard. If I am ever fortunate enough to visit Bangor again I would definitely want to stay here. Thank you Cindy!

We loved BRH!
BRH exceeded our expectations. The location was superb. Accommodations were very welcoming, reminded us of home. We especially enjoyed the kitchen accommodations. We were able to be creative and compose such dishes as: Lobster pizza, lobster and roasted asparagus quiche, and ribs with roasted zucchini and baked potatoes. We loved that we could cook for ourselves on vacation, and have plenty of pots and pans to do it with. We were able to “stay at home” on a rainy day, and be comfortable. Highly recommend

Great House!
We came up from NJ for the weekend to bring our daughter to UMaine. BRH is adorable! Clean, spacious and just a great old house. Close to downtown Bangor and not far from the college. Would definitely stay again and already have recommended to family if they ever come visit!

What a gem
This house has so much love in it. The kitchen was exceptional and somehow I felt like I was back home to my childhood staying at the BRH. We loved the fact we could walk around and tour all the site including Stephen Kings home just 7 minutes walk away. The home had everything we needed and more. Thank you for having us, we loved our stay. P.S. it’s a great ride to Acadia / Bar harbor and not too far. Great for day trips.

Awesome place in the perfect location
This was a wonderful couple of days! The house is very well setup and immaculately clean! I am coveting a kitchen like the one in the house for my house! The muffins left for us was a very special touch! Cindy was super quick to respond to questions and was a wonderful host! We’ll definitely be back when we are in the area and need a place! Even though temps were in the 90’s, the house stayed cool and comfortable…a rare thing in Maine when it is hot! Book this house…you won’t regret it!

Lovely Home with fenced back yard (nice for dogs)
We enjoyed the old house and had a very comfortable stay. We took many walks while visiting. It was especially nice to see Stephen King's lovely home which is really close. The homeowner is very nice and helpful.

Great place for a vintage style getaway
We were here for work. The house is well maintained. The updated kitchen is well stocked with coffee and tea and cook ware. Would bring spices if you are planning to cook. Shaw's grocery store is nearby. Large living room with L shaped couch and TV. Adjacent to this is a front room with a desk for computer work. Front door was not in use due to heavy snow. Front entrance leads to study, then LR and kitchen in back. Also has banistered, carpeted staircase leading upstairs, where there are 3 bedrooms and a well lit bathroom. There are 2 bathrooms in the house, both bath tubs are deep. The upstairs bathtub is freestanding and has a shower. In keeping with it's vintage style it has older lighting, beds and wall paper upstairs. The beds are comfortable. Heat works well. The house does have a driveway so you can get off the street on the nights when street parking bans are in effect. Neighbors are friendly. Cindy was great and responded to all queries quickly.

BRH in Bangor Maine
The BRH is very deceiving from the outside but still a very quite area and close to EVERYTHING! Once inside it is a VERY beautiful and relaxing! The kitchen is beautiful, and fully equipped for any chefs needs. We enjoyed our stay and will diffinately visit again!

A beautiful historic home away from home
A gorgeous old house, steeped in history, with so much character. Lovingly looked after, spacious, charming with everything you’d need for a large family staying in Bangor. Great location too, only about 20 minutes walk to downtown Bangor and less than 10 minutes walk to Stephen King’s home (if you’re interested, or a fan) . Cindy was a fabulous host, I couldn’t be more grateful for her phone call when I arrived late and in the dark due to flight delays. She saw me trying to get access on her security camera and wanted to make sure I was okay. I loved my stay in this house, and even though I was by myself (My travelling companion cancelled at the last minute) I would recommend this as a retreat for one, or as a fabulous, spacious place for a family.

Worth the stay!
This property was as wonderful as it appeared online. The owner was incredibly helpful and responsive. Access to the property was easy and the location is close to downtown Bangor, which we loved. The only negative of our stay was that we had to leave. Absolutely will stay there again if I travel there again, which I hope to!

Excellent Rustic home in beautiful neighborhood
We used this property on our family costal Maine adventure as a stopping point. The property met our needs and was actually walking distance to Stephen King's house!

Beautiful Bangor House
This house is perfectly located to experience Bangor and the surrounding area. The owner was excellent at communicating everything we needed to know and answering questions quickly. The house was exactly as described and had everything we needed for a great visit. My husband was gone for most of our stay and I felt very comfortable walking and running in the neighorhood. All the neighbors were very friendly. Would highly recommend a stay in the Big Red House!

nice location
Overall nice location, near Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor. The house could use some updating, but it is a old house. Could use a updated shower.
