Beautiful, may want to bring your own lighting
We liked this older house/cabin, but a few things detracted from the best stay so I have to note: Positives: Beautiful location. Inside is roomy. Good size deck w BBQ, lights, and nice view. Perfect for marshmallow roasting. Shower/tub combo is good sized. Parking for three vehicles. (Street and upper parking are very narrow. Lower parking is wider.) Large TV. Appliances all work. Beds are comfortable. Pines Resort and lake easy drive, bicycle or walking distance. (Note-it is very hilly.). Cooking necessities available. Owner was quick and pleasant when responding to inquiries. General store and restaurants are fairly close. Negatives: Lighting…Very dark. All lamps have fluorescent low wattage bulbs. We ended up using headlamps and flashlights - especially in the bedrooms-even during the day. The heating… the old house heater was loud and didn’t heat quickly. There are small portable heaters for each room. It took 8 hours to get warm. Once we got it warm, it was ok. There is a fireplace and wood available. Fireplace would have worked nicely but we did not use fireplace due to allergies. Note: When I printed out passcode for entry, it printed out 99999, instead of actual code, so we had to call owner to get correct code. He was available and helpful. General… The bathrooms, kitchen and floors were clean. Lots of dust and cobwebs though. TV is large - has Apple TV, Netflix and Prime. Originally we had planned for six people and it would have accommodated that number well. It ended up just being us two. Note: the downstairs king size bed and bathroom are accessible by outdoors only. Not a problem, but guests should be aware. Overall, we liked the place, but the lighting and heat were issues. We would stay here again, but would bring better light bulbs.

Pine Resort wedding

The Bass Lake Cabin
Our adventure at the Bass Lake Cabin began with a phone message early morning of the day we were set to arrive. The refrigerator had gone on the blink. Ugly way to start considering our stay was for Thanksgiving. We have a son in college, so we have a large dorm sized refrigerator that we put in our truck, and the Carlson's have one (about the same size) downstairs, so we had plenty of refrigeration. Mark credited us some money back for the inconvenience and totally made things right by us. We had a fabulous time at the cabin. We loved being able to see the lake from the window and we especially loved the deck. We look forward to when all the renovations are completed as we would love to go back for another stay.

Great location walking distance to The Pines Resort
Very nice house with a classic cabin feel. Great location short walk to the Pines Resort. The patio deck closes on both sides which was great for keeping our dogs safe especially with nightly visits from their local bears (pretty cool). We enjoyed out stay very much!!

We enjoyed our stay very much. This home had everything we needed. It was so wonderful to have access to a washer and dryer, which is the first time we had ever had this privilege. This home truly felt cozy and comfy for us. A true oasis. This was our first time to this particular city and we loved it! We will definitely be back.

Great location and lots of space
The property ended up being perfect but the 8 yr olds were a tad scared to sleep in the attic as there were spiderwebs on the ceiling, but the kids loved the space as a fort for playing. Note that the ground floor room has a separate entrance which we didn't realize but it all worked out. The owner was very responsive and gave us a heads and discount as the game room was under construction.

Perfect for a family.
Nice place. Everything was clean and as advertised. Nice deck to hang out on. King bedroom was like its own downstairs suite. AC was nice to have, it was very warm in the area. Very close to pines marina. Actually walked there for dinner, wasn't too far. Overall, a great experience for the price.

Comfortable Family Cabin
We had a wonderful stay! The cabin was very comfortable. The new deck was very nice. It is an older cabin with a slightly outdated style but it’s Bass Lake, I’m not there for the style, I’m there for the lake, family and friends. I also prefer an older cabin having kids so I didn’t feel so paranoid about every little move they made. I felt like I was staying in an old friend’s cabin, which for me was a comfortable feeling. My family has been going to the lake since 1948. The location was wonderful, super close to the pines, within walking distance if you don’t mind crossing an occasional bear. The main house has 2 rooms and 1 bathroom. The third room and second bathroom are slightly separate from the main area. They are attached but you enter from the outside not inside the house so we didn’t use that part of the house with 2 younger kids. The extra space would have been nice for older kids or a separate family. There was space to park 3 vehicles however the roads are very narrow and steep so boat parking is not advised. If you are looking for a fancy, newly remodeled home then this is not the one. If you want to relax and be comfortable and enjoy the lake then this is perfect. I would absolutely stay here again. Wonderful family getaway.
We stayed for a week, including Thanksgiving. This house was great for the 6 of us to spread out and relax. The downstairs master suite and game room are huge! Larger than they appear in the pictures. There is so much to do here, we want to come back during the summer as well. Hiking, swimming, bike riding, boating on beautiful Bass Lake, fishing, beaches, and close to Yosemite and Oakhurst (Grocery, etc.). The family friendly community of Bass Lake made us feel like we were year-round residents. This house is the perfect home for any activity you want to do in the area, or just to sit on the new deck an enjoy the view. This house has everything you need, a large screen tv, fast wifi, games, a new washer/dryer, a charcoal bbq, super fun full sized pool table in a large game room, a very comfortable bed, an oversized bath tub, and a very well stocked kitchen. I cooked for the 6 of us for a week, including a full Thanksgiving dinner and didn't lack for anything. Well ok, they were a little short on wine glasses, so we fixed that and were happy to leave them for the next guests. The owners were very friendly and quick to communicate. Definitely a 5 star review!

As soon as we saw the size of this house and how close it was to Pines Resort, we wished we would’ve booked longer. The master suite below is HUGE! The game room is also giant. Not much else to report. We had to leave early due to the Creek Fire. Hope the owner and family are safe!

Nice cabin a short drive from the lake
We enjoyed the new deck with a charcoal BBQ and the billiards table was also put to good use. Please note there are no public lake access points within a short walk and pulling a boat to the cabin is somewhat treacherous. That being said, the cabin is as expected and we really enjoyed our stay.

Family Fun Cabin
Our family enjoyed staying at this Bass Lake cabin. We would definately go back. The owners were quick in responding to our needs. The cabin was much larger than expected. The decore was a bit dark. But other than that everything was as expected. The lake and weather was perfect temperature. We had an all around great time.

Great posting!
Everything was amazing. Beautiful place and very clean. Only issue we had is that the online check out instructions don’t match the instructions on the fridge. So make sure you check the fridge instructions not the online ones.

Great place to stay
Great location, walking distance to Pine village and the Lake. The whole house and deck is shaded. All the furnishing in the house was very comfortable and in excellent condition. Our favorite place to hang out was on the deck where we ate breakfast, dinner and used the fire pit to make Smores. Our Host the Carlson's were the best, easy to communicate with and very responsive to our questions.

Good Property and compfortable.
We enjoyed the home. I only have one observation there are a couple of lights that don't work and because the home has dark would accents it made it hard to see sometimes. Other than that very nice.

Lovely place
Just came back from our 6 days in the house. Absolutely loved it. The house has everything you will need plus bunch more... In my mind, most important thing - AC. We had 3 days in a raw close to 95 degrees. First: the house is in deep shaded area between toll trees close to top of the hill. Constant breeze plus shade keeps it cool, but as soon as you turn AC on it cools down to comfortable within 5 minutes. Thanks Mark! Oleg

Awesome home and great location!
The pictures do not do this place justice, it’s beautifully decorated inside and out! It was quiet and comfortable. It had more than enough space for 3 adults and 1 teenager to spread out and not get on each other’s nerves! It had all the comforts of being at home and all the kitchen/tv tech devices were like new items and user friendly. Also it’s located in a little resort area called the The Pines which had a market, gas, post office, bar, restaurant, and a couple of shops which was great! Also if you’re old enough to know the movie, The Great Outdoors (John Candy & Dan Aykroyd) was filmed right there on Bass Lake and at The Pines - we watched it while at the house and we recognized the market and the whole “fake” town was the resort LOL! We had a great time, highly recommend this place!

Our get away Bass Lake vacation home was perfect with lots of room for add'l friends and family. The only draw back was the King suite did not have any type of AC / air flow, without leaving the sliding glass door open. it would be very warm and uncomfortable to sleep. We brought our own fans which made it possible to sleep without any issues.

In response to this comment regarding cooling, we have added air conditioning to the lower suite. In the past this room remained very cool in summer but because it seems to be getting warmer we decided to add this feature. Warm Regards, (No pun intended) Mark

This was a very spacious, clean, and comfortable house!
This was a fantastic stay. My family of 4 used this house to meet up with my mom and my inlaws. It fit all 7 of us comfortably. The lake was fun and driving into Yosemite was amazing!

Amazing Rental...Pictures Don't Do It Justice...
First off, Mark was wonderful from the day I booked his home to the day we left and beyond. His home is beautiful & was absolutely perfect for our stay (pictures definitely don't do it justice). The home is clean and well maintained with ample space. We especially enjoyed the game room. We had a slight mishap during our stay with space heaters & the breakers, but Mark was extremely helpful and called right away to help fix the problem and make sure it was taken care of. Would absolutely stay here again! Thanks so much!

Great stay but huge issue
We rented this property October 6-10th. We had a wonderful stay but we had a major issue. First the positives, great location and clean. The porch is surrounded by trees and has a small charcoal grill and a table with a fire pit that we enjoyed very much. House is in walking distance to the lake and Pines Resort, and is about a 30 minute drive to Yosemite entrance. We were there for the half marathon and the shuttle pickup was very close. There is a separate living area that has a bedroom, kitchenette, and a bathroom. It does not have central heating or air conditioning but there are a couple of electric heaters. The second night we were there the downstairs bathroom flooded with raw sewage that overflowed from the toilet onto the floor, flowed into the carpet, and almost filled the bathtub. It even shot out of the kitchenette sink all over the countertop and floor. This was after someone showered and luckily heard the toilet bubbling and was able to get out before being contaminated. We ended up all staying upstairs in 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom which was not horrible since there were only 6 of us. The owner, Mark, did refund a portion of the rent but I was more concerned about the cleanup. No one ever came out to start the cleanup process so the downstairs remained with sewage for a minimum of 3 days. I truly hope a professional service was used and the carpet was replaced because this was not a job for a maid.

What happened in the bathroom downstairs was most unfortunate.This was a Madera County plumbing issue. It has since been resolved as the drain at the street was plugged up. I refunded $350.00 plus the deposit $600.00 total. I did try to get someone up there that day and the next without success. I would have come myself but had just had surgery (bad timing) and my wife was working a 12 hr shift. The room in question was a separate room downstairs so their wasn't any health danger. As I mentioned Madera County did fix the issue and I had it professionally cleaned. The bathroom was out of commission for two days. I'm again very sorry for your experience.

Peaceful and spacious.
I would like to thank Mark Carlson for the hospitality of his lovely home in the pines. For five nights we stayed at the Carlson home for my daughter's wedding at Bass Lake. The house is nicely decorated with comfortable beds, furniture and new appliances. The separate downstairs apartment was very accommodating for my son and his family. The deck was a favorite of ours and we especially liked the privacy. The surrounding homes are all set back far enough to make it feel like we were far away from it all. We are looking forward to a future trip to the area where we can stay in the house again. The Green's from Alaska and the Trafton's from Colorado

We loved this house!
We would rate our overall experience staying at this Bass Lake property as excellent. We've stayed at 6 different VRBO properties, and this one is our favorite so far. The owner is very nice, and quickly responds to all queries. The house is fully equipped with everything needed for a pleasant stay - nice linens, plenty of dishes and cooking utensils, updated appliances, comfortable and attractive furnishings - and most important to us, it's clean and well maintained. The deck, where we spent a great deal of our time, is spacious and welcoming, and the lower level of the house has a beautiful new pool table. The only complaints we have is that the mattresses could be softer, but some people like firm mattresses, so that's probably not a fair complaint. And, we wish there was a TV in the pool room. It would have been fun to watch a ball game while playing pool. But overall, we give this place top rating and we would definitely love to stay there again.

Excellent family vacation cabin
The cabin was much larger than expected. My brother, his wife and their two kids (2 and 3) stayed in the upstairs portion of the cabin along with our mom. My fiancé and I stayed in the downstairs portion of the cabin which was separated from the game room where my youngest brother stayed. It was nice because the lower rooms were somewhat separated and the kids didn't wake us up at 6:30am every morning. We loved the upstairs deck and spent nearly all our communal time outside. We ate every meal on the deck and made s'mores with kids at night while looking up at the starts. The deck chairs were comfortable and the deck was spacious enough for all 8 of us. The lake was a short walk from the cabin, even for the kids. We drove into Yosemite one day and spent another day on a rental boat cruising around Bass Lake. The kitchen was somewhat small and cramped and the sliding glass door to the lower room was very tough to slide but other than that we loved the place.

Our May Stay
Very comfortable house near the lake....walking distance to Ducey's and the Pines Resort...quiet street... We loved the deck for our morning coffee and evening cocktails...plenty of parking ... We were able to park our 1941 Chris Craft in the driveway ... Though you should be experienced in backing up... Overall, we were so happy to have found this jewel... Communication was excellent... Thank you Mark and family!!!

Winter Retreat
Since summer was filled with sports activities for the kids in St.Louis but their dad wanted them to see Yosemite, we scheduled a winter trip. Yosemite was spectacular decorated with snow and throwing snowballs was great entertainment amidst the beauty. Thankfully the young men took the job of installing and removing chains on the van which was really necessary. This home was a great retreat at the end of the day. It handled our three generations quite adequately and comfortably. We had a fire in the fireplace, slept well and cooked hearty meals from the kitchen. The heat had been turned on before we arrived but It took a while to heat every corner of the house. This is understandable with freezing temperatures outside and the house not always in use. I would recommend this vacation home even in winter.

Relaxing Reunion under the Pines
This was the perfect location for our family while we attended a wedding at the Pines Resort as the house was within easy walking distance to the Pines. The outdoor deck is amazing! The weather was beautiful and we spent most of our free time relaxing on the deck under the shade of the pine trees. The house and the lower unit had plenty of space for our family. The beds and decor were nice. The loft is a true loft with a ladder and a railing. I would recommend this space for teens or older. The owner is quite responsive and easy to work with.
