Tucked away on Bowen Island's sought-after west side, famous for its endless sunsets, this upscale, self-catering retreat is perfectly romantic and beautiful. Suitable for individuals, families, or small groups of friends and up to two well-behaved dogs. Features: Full kitchen, large patio with a fire table, access to wild west side beaches and trails, pocket ocean views, and close proximity to Snug Cove. It has a carefully curated design to inspire and relax our guests.
We would love to interact with and orient you to Baxter's Place and the island if you'd like that, but we are also fully respectful of your privacy if you prefer no contact and want to just arrive and hide away. We are always just a text or phone call away.
Bowen Island's West Side—a quiet, family oriented neighbourhood within walking distance of amazing beaches like Tunstal Bay (mind you—the walk is up and down some of the island's infamous hills). The West Side is only an 8-10 minute drive across the island to Snug Cove. It's a great jumping off point for adventures on some of the best trails and beaches of Bowen (Cape Roger Curtis, Radar Hill/Fairy Fenn, Quarry Park, the Golf Course, Arbutus Bay Beach, and more—just ask your host and we will be happy to offer tips to suit your interests).
In addition to the apartment itself, which has its own private entrance above the driveway, guests may share use of the front yard (flat and grassy for picnics, young soccer enthusiasts, etc.). You also have your own large patio with a grand view of huge trees and the ocean in the distance.
1 bedroom with a queen bed, and a den with a high end queen bed for extra guests or children. Max. sleeping capacity of 4 guests, but the apartment is very spacious, with a huge living room, cozy den with Smart TV, and a dining area and bar seating by the full kitchen island. Large bathroom with tub and shower, and washer/dryer. Large patio accessed from french doors in the living room with grand, elevated forest views and pocket ocean views, and 4 patio chairs surrounding a brand new high end fire table. Outdoor dining set and BBQ to be added in the spring!
We welcome families with kids, and supply some games and books. We would be happy to have you advise us on how we can make your stay with your kids easy and fun—happy to provide a pack n' play so you don't need to lug one along with you, and additional age-appropriate toys to keep your little one busy.
There is a public bus that meets every ferry and can drop you at the top of the driveway, and you can get picked up to head back to cove if you prefer to travel without your car. Having a car on Bowen is advised, however, if you'd like to get the maximum benefit from your stay—there's so much to explore!
Local tips: Baxter's Place is a Discover Bowen property. We have strong ties with local adventure outfitters (fishing and boating charters, eBikes, sea kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, scooter rentals), mobile massage therapists, thermal spas, and more. Please get in touch with your Discover Bowen hosts to take advantage of priority access and discounted pricing.
Pets: We don’t want you to leave your furry friend/s behind if you want to bring them along for the adventure—and there are plenty to be had near Baxter's Place. Dogs are welcome, though a small pet cleaning fee applies to compensate our cleaners for the extra time it takes to clean after a dog has visited. Please bring your own towels for muddy paws (ours are all white), and please don’t let your dog/s up on the furniture or beds.
Unique features to be aware of:
> The house has three levels, and the apartment is on the ground level, but there are about 12 steps up to the front door from the driveway.
> There is no backyard, but you have a huge patio off the living room with cozy outdoor chairs and a fire table. A outdoor dining set up will be added in the spring of 2026, including a BBQ.
> Sarah lives upstairs with her two 12-year old girls. The house is brand new (2025) and sound insulated and so you will not hear them much above—steps are heard faintly, but not voices.
> We are on a septic tank and so please do not flush anything but human waste and toilet paper down the toilet. Backups can happen, and they are both a nuisance and expensive to address.
Smoking: Please do not smoke indoors, even with windows or doors open. We also prefer if you do not smoke on the property due to fire risk, but if you do need to smoke, please be responsible about it. Many forest fires are lit from cigarette ashes, and the forests of Bowen Island get bone dry in the summer months. Help us keep our home and island safe!
