Schilderachtige Historische Log Cabin met uitzicht op de James River.

De Eekhoorns Nest is een schilderachtige, historische blokhut met uitzicht op de James River in Buchanan, Virginia. Het is beschikbaar als een vakantiewoning met een twee (2) 's nachts minimum verblijf. Er zijn drie slaapkamers en twee badkamers en is geschikt voor maximaal zes (6) personen. Slaapkamer 1 heeft een tweepersoonsbed, slaapkamer 2 heeft een queen bed en slaapkamer 3 heeft twee aparte bedden. De keuken is volledig uitgerust en er is een grote flatscreen-tv in de woonkamer. Overdekte picknickplaats aan de achterzijde van het pand met uitzicht op de rivier en de binnenstad van Buchanan.
De Eekhoorns Nest ligt dicht bij vele lokale attracties die op loopafstand, zoals Antiek winkels, de swingende brug, vissen, kanoën, slangen en kajakken op de James River. Andere attracties zijn niet te ver weg zijn The Natural Bridge, Safari Park en Zoo. De Blue Ridge Parkway, Appalachian Trail en tal van wandel- en fietsroutes. Wij zijn gevestigd dertig minuten van het centrum van Roanoke en Downtown Lexington.

Very cozy and great location if you want to explore the area. Host was extremely responsive to any question and so easy to book with. Buchanan was a very friendly and welcoming town with a lot of charm. Definitely recommend and would rebook if returning to this part of Virginia.

Stayed here for the Chessie trail marathon. Everything in Lexington is crazy expensive and this place was reasonable and right off the interstate and only about 25 min from Lexington. Cool old cabin, very clean. Not much to do in Buchanan but you aren’t far from Lexington, natural bridge state park an other interesting things. Neighbors dogs are annoying but that’s not the cabin owners fault. Train tracks close by but train doesn’t run after about 9pm so didn’t interfere with sleep. Plenty of parking with a circle driveway. Other houses around are somewhat junkie but nothing unsafe. If I’m ever in the area again would stay at this place.

The cabin was well stocked and it was a very comfortable cabin. We enjoyed our stay very much and the host was very accommodating. The cabin really has the charm of an older one. Thanks again for allowing us to stay and enjoy for a week.

The location is good for site seeing and a cute town. The cabin is not a river view at all there is no access to even view the river from the cabin. The owner is very passionate about the house. Over all it was a good experience the house is bigger than ur expected however the pictures on the site for the house is very misleading.

Good news/bad news. Good: comfortable beds, appliances all work, clean (with one notable exception). Bad: Locks on front and back doors not functional on the outside -- safe neighborhood fortunately; WiFi without password and owners seemed not to understand why that mattered; Yes, generally clean but oven, drawer under it and large pile of pans in the drawer FILTHY! Closets, drawers in bedrooms full of owners' stuff so largely unusable -- huge number of Christmas decorations for some reason; kitchen cabinets, drawers and shelves so full we had to remove vast amounts of stuff so we could find what we needed for simple cooking/eating. Refrigerator with all kinds of leftovers but impossible to tell if they had been there for 24 hours or 6 months. Overall the whole place cries out for a dumpster party.

Quaint Cabin, beautiful views

The property was completely adequate for our needs. Despite its small size, there was plenty of space for everyone to be comfortable. There were some small repairs that could have been made and some spiderwebs to be cleared. Also the trains running a few hundred feet away were a bit loud. Overall though, we enjoyed our stay and the scenery was lovely.

Sitting on the front porch or in the back was not a pleasant option because of all of the junk overflowing on the neighbors’ properties. Of course, the neighbors junkyards are not the owner’s fault but posting misleading photos of the outside that falsely indicate that the front porch or back is a nice place to sit is.

Squirrel's Nest is an absolutely charming cottage in a quaint town. Great location & perfect for our needs. We only stayed a weekend, to attend the Sounds of the Mountains storytelling festival at nearby Camp Bethel. We hope to go back when we can stay longer, to see more of the town & surrounding area.

Relaxing New Years

The property is quaint and somewhat nostalgic to an era gone by. Love the proximity to outdoor activity; however, this trip was all about getting away. I would suggest improving the shower head downstairs, as well the garbage disposal in kitchen. Even with just suds and water it backs up pretty easily. We could not get the gas fireplace to work. Interested in coming back in the warmer times...

Charming Historic Property

The Squirrel's Nest is a charming, well-appointed historic cabin with modern additions and conveniences. My in-laws thoroughly enjoyed their stay, although they did comment on the busy-ness of the store across the road. The final cost at approximately $243 per night (for 3 nights) is a bit too pricey for this area of Virginia - particularly for just 2 guests who used just 1 bed - which is the only reason I didn't rate it the full 5 stars. Nonetheless, I highly recommend!
