A 19th-century farmhouse, a detached home offering breathtaking views of the Allier Gorges, located right next to the 12th-century abbey and cloister. Rated 3 ears by Gîtes de France and a 3-star tourist residence.
The cottage is located in a place called “La Vialle,” a rocky promontory overlooking two rivers: the Allier on one side and the Desges on the other. It is a cul-de-sac, so there is very little car traffic aside from that of the few residents. La Vialle was built on an ancient volcanic flow; in fact, it’s easy to spot the basaltic flows—also known as “orgues”—along the narrow streets that run beneath the Abbey. The many narrow streets and hiking trails directly accessible from the vacation rental will delight walking enthusiasts, the Allier River, the Desges River, and the two ponds—all within a 10-minute walk—will satisfy anglers, and during the warmer months, the Gravière beach (unsupervised but less than a 10-minute walk away) offers a chance to swim in the rushing waters of the Allier.
