If any of Sheryl’s complaints had been communicated to us while she was here, we would have addressed them immediately to her complete satisfaction. We do not want guests to be uncomfortable. Instead, for the few days of her booking that she stayed, she said everything was fine, she was relaxing, and her dog was happy. She did mention a number times that she had serious work deadlines and all her napping and magazine reading was interfering with getting work done. She left early, citing the need to focus on work. It was not until 5 days later, the day of her scheduled departure, that she texted me from her home with the offer of some friendly feedback, which I accepted, and which was the first I had heard of any issues with the rental. Since we knew the property was clean when she arrived, was accurately represented in our VRBO listing, and could not be rebooked for those days, we did not offer to refund her, nor did she ever ask for us to do so until this review. Hosts, beware.

While we very much disagree with Karyn’s appraisal of our guest quarters, we recognize that every guest comes to the property with different expectations of a farm cabin. To address some of her concerns, mice or squirrels can be an occasional nuisance and we maintain a rigorous pest control regimen. The white powder she saw behind the fridge is boric acid, there to keep bugs away. We concede her point and will make sure in the future our application of it is out of reach of a dog’s tongue. There are many pet friendly rentals in our area where she could have stayed. She chose a cabin on a farm. It is obvious it was not a good fit for her.
