We stay in hotels all over, and I’ve never had an experience quite like this, even my cheap boutique Mexico hotels. I traveled for my daughter’s softball tournament and picked a place that would sleep myself and 2 pre teens, and had a kitchen. I did not know that I was going to be in the mix of lower end apartment style drama, and at risk youths under 24/7 supervision. We paid the premium 4th of July pricing, while fighting and gunshots rang out in the parking lot right when we were outside!!! We witnessed it all, and my kids were shook up and no longer wanted to walk alone in the hotel. After it cleared up, there was drama again right when we were trying to get to bed early for a 5 am wake up call. Not much sleep occurred that night. Our softball team planned to swim the next day too, but clearly we couldn’t do that and feel safe, so we had to go to a town pool, which was packed and had a fee to enter. Anyone who does competitive sports, knows the days are very long and you just want a place to lay your head, eat, rest and rejuvenate for the next day of games. I spent that next day, while trying to help with the team, on the phone with Marriott and looking for a new place. We couldn’t find a good fit, as it’s now last minute. What does this solo traveling mom now do? We stayed begrudgingly and 2 days later, the police were back! This time due to an at risk youth whom is housed at this hotel, what! I’ve yet to hear from Marriott with a resolution or partial refund.
