Beautiful retreat.
We had a lovely weekend as a family. We enjoyed the beautiful spacious home, the peaceful sunsets, full moon and hiking trails. We love the ministry that this home provides to our veterans and their families. Some things that would have made our stay even more relaxing would have been a hall tree to hang our coats in place of the grandfather clock by the door, having the lightswitches labeled so that we didn't have to try them all to figure out which one was for which lights, and having the kitchen more organized. We also needed to have a maintenance person come and repair a leak coming from the refridgerator and fix the furnace. The first night we were without heat in the older part of the house. I share these things only to help make this already beautiful and peaceful spot even more relaxing.

Winter family gathering perfection! Large kitchen, dining, living area for cooking together, eating as a family, watching sports, and playing games. Bedrooms are on lower level so teenage / college student napping was never disturbed. Beautiful walking trails through property. Very clean. Every family member loved our stay here!

Great place to stay
Great location, beautiful property, perfect amount of space in the house for all of us! Really enjoyed our time!! The only tip is to change the signs in the house on the check out time to be consistent with VRBO of 10am. Signs in house say 11am and cleaners showed up at 10am. Would definitely stay here again!!

FAMILY REUNION
We enjoyed everything about the home! We had lots of space for our reunion and communication was quick. The only complaint was the weather---but even that wasn't so bad when we had lots of spaces for gathering, cooking, reading, jigsaw puzzling, and everything! :) Thank you!

Wonderful location for cousin reunion
Beautiful and peaceful and spacious for reunion of cousins for a weekend. The property is gorgeous and beautifully appointed, overflowing with a feeling of warmth and home-like atmosphere. Beautiful view. So many special touches. Ample space for kids and adults to visit and play and eat and gather.

Excellent family get away
Holbrook farms had everything we needed, space to spread out and play games and wonderful gathering places in the large kitchen/dining area and the large deck. The yard was an enjoyable challenge for our bocce ball game and Bags that we brought along. The sightings of deer and loons added a special northern Minnesota touch.

The great get together
Wonderful spacious property. The sleep area is a sufficient distance from the kitchen, living room area so that kids napping are not disturbed. The management was very prompt fixing a gas grill. We will make this a yearly tradition!

Party of 15 fit comfortably
This was our second time staying at the property with this size group and accommodates 15 great. The house is clean and stocked with almost everything you need. Very thankful they allowed an early check in for us. The property is large and great to spread out and play yard games or go for walks. We saw pictures of a fire pit for the deck area (& used it in our first stay) but couldn't find it so didnt get to spend much time outdoors outside of afternoon time due to large amounts of mosquitos. Only recommendations/comments I'd share is it would be a huge improvement of the waterfront area was raked, spray for bugs? The paddle boards were great but the small lake front is completely full of weeds that you don't want to actually get in the water. Was like that for both of our visits. Do know that it is more of an large pond so there is no fish to be caught. Only reasons we must likely won't return. Too small of lake and could definitely be cleaned up to enjoy the water.

Good morning Christa, Thank you for your review and comments. We have had several storms this summer with a lot of tree damage and clean-up, we are trying our very best to keep up with that. For the water, we are at the mercy of the DNR on what we can do with the weeds, we are not able to use a weed roller. The lake is smaller in size with no public access. However, it does have some fish in it. We will work to improve the beach area the best we can.

Great getaway
The retreat was everything we needed! It was spacious enough for 11 of us, with plenty of extra room. The weather finally straightened out and we enjoyed a lot of time on the deck. Overall this was a great spot for a girls weekend getaway! Thank you!

Excellent property!
Our family had a great time celebrating Christmas here! We loved the seclusion of this property but still we were close enough to Detroit Lakes for shopping and going to Detroit Mountain. The home was spacious for 13 of us.

Fabulous home for large group!
We had 13 guests stay on this beautiful, HUGE property!! Kids and adults had an awesome time!! The sauna and whirlpool tub were fabulous and the giant kitchen is perfect for big meals!!! We brought a 4 wheeler to explore the expansive property!! Thanks for a great week!

Great place for family get to gether
Property was really amazing, lots of room for all, with older family members it would be good to know family room and kitchen are up and all sleeping was down stairs. Its hard in any listing to cover that. That can be an issue as we had one member 86. The three walk in showers are just perfect for older guests. Home had well equipped kitchen. Close to town for anything you need. Dock and beach were nice and lake is super quiet. Any issues we had Darrin resolved.

We found this property the perfect place for our family gathering. We enjoyed the wonderful outdoor space for our young grandchildren. Even though one day was rainy the concrete driveway area was perfect for the “wheeled vehicles “ we brought along. We also brought an ATV that was fun to ride on the property trails. The indoor space was perfect for us also. Highly recommend this property!

Amazing property
We stayed here with 8 family and friends ranging from ages 11-79. Everyone had more than enough space and the house was furnished very well. It’s clean, well equipped both inside and out. The grounds are beautiful and quiet. The 4 paddle boards, kayak and peddle boat were fun too.

Family Christmas Gathering
What a wonderful property! My family really enjoyed staying at Holbrook Farm! The home is beautiful and there is so much room! Everything was immaculate - and all the appliances were top of the line! We enjoyed playing in the snow outside as well. There was even a Christmas tree all decorated when we got there - we were so excited to see that! We would highly recommend Holbrook Farm for any large gathering - the home and the property are beautiful! We will be back! Thanks for a great time!

We had an extended family vacation at this retreat. Everyone had enough space, but we all could gather together in the kitchen area. There was a more private area for my elderly mother and father. So much better than renting separate cabins.

EVERYTHING IS FABULOUS AT HOLBROOK FARMS!!
We just returned from an AMAZING stay at Holbrook Farms Retreat. Our family gathered to celebrate my Dad's 80th birthday. Everything about this place is top notch! The main level is perfect for a large gathering. The kitchen is stocked with everything you could possibly need. Very cozy living area and lots of table space for eating and playing games. Having all the bedrooms in the basement was great! People could be upstairs visiting and playing games while others were sleeping downstairs without being disturbed. Everyone commented that their bed was very comfortable. The extra living/kitchen area in the basement was great for kids coming and going from the lake and grabbing snacks and drinks. That was also the cousins' little hangout area when they didn't want to be by the adults. The deck has plenty of seating with comfortable chairs. The yard was great for yard games and the trails were fun to walk through. We rented a pontoon while we were there and were so glad we did. The shoreline is very weedy, so not great for the kids to swim. We took the pontoon out in the middle of the lake and spent hours out there with the kids jumping in and swimming from the pontoon. There were 4 paddle boats that were always in use. A two person kayak was great to have along with the peddle boat. The only thing that was a little bit of a bummer was the distance from the cabin to the lake. Granny has a bad knee and it was a hard walk for her to get down to the lake with the uneven ground and slight hill. You can't see much of the lake from the house, so she wasn't able to watch all the fun that was taking place on the lake. Just something to be aware of if you are traveling with elderly people. The privacy at Holbrook Farms is like none other. We did not see another person the whole time we were there. We had the whole lake to ourselves the entire time. Do not hesitate to book this property, I promise you will not be disappointed!

Beautiful house with tons of space
We had 11 friends and family stay for 3 nights during the winter. We were all in awe of the beauty of the secluded property and the house. The house literally goes on forever. The main floor works great for hanging out in a large group. The other parts of the house are perfect for getting away for quiet time. The beds are super comfortable, and everything was spotless. The extras like the sauna, jet tub, steam shower and exercise areas are a real plus! Some things to consider when renting... all of the bedrooms are on the lower level, so you will have to do steps, and two bedrooms will be without easy access to a bathroom at night. There was no place to hang coats or put shoes/boots when entering the house. Also, the piano was out-of-tune which bummed me out because I was looking forward to entertaining our guests. Everything else was wonderful, and we all enjoyed our stay!

Rented this property because our son was getting married in Detroit Lakes, MN. We had several guests that we needed to host and we also had plenty of space to host the rehearsal dinner. Perfect place for a work retreat!
Our work team spent 3 days at Holbrook Farm. They were great about working with us on an early check in. It was nice having such a spacious place for meetings and trainings. There was plenty of room to spread out so we weren't tripping over each other. The sauna, jetted tub and steam shower were wonderful. It was an awesome place for work and relaxation. I would highly recommend.

Beautifully Private!
This property sits in the woods at the end of a winding driveway. Beautiful location and lovely home. I was part of 10 women that spent 3 days relaxing and enjoying the beauty around us. I gave it a 4* but would actually say 4 1/2* if possible. It has a fantastic, well stocked kitchen and many sitting areas so you can be alone if you want to. Beds are good quality as are the linens. The only drawback is all the bedrooms are on the lower level. Therefore stairs are necessary and could be negative for someone who has a hard time time doing stairs. You can drive a car to a lower level using a different driveway and enter the bedroom level that way....but then it would involve stairs from the driveway. Hard to explain. However, both levels are beautiful and very tastefully decorated. If using all the bedrooms and beds, two bedrooms would have to share a bathroom with one of the other rooms. With 10 of us, we worked it out just fine. Nice big fire pit that we did not use because we would have had to carry chairs of some sort down the hill to have seating for all of us. . Instead we used the portable fire pit on the patio and carried chairs from inside. I recommend it for a quiet get-away. 10 miles into Detroit Lakes to shop and restaurants.

Beautiful and private lakehouse!
Our family spent a week here, we have 5 families (10 adults and 2 kids) and it was great for each family to have their own bedroom - which was even better that all the rooms were on the lower levels. The upstairs big kitchen and family room were the perfect gathering space for us! We brought a big 9 person tube that we enjoyed using on the quiet lake. It’s not a good recreation lake for boating or swimming but we loved using the paddle boards and paddle boat provided! We also spent a lot of time on the beautiful deck and enjoyed how private it was but still close to Detroit Lakes!

Beautiful property, beautiful story... made an amazing event venue.
This is such a wonderful property. It was perfect for and event venue... but it would be equally beautiful for a single family stay, a retreat, or family reunion. The owners and boards have thought about everything to make the perfect stay. Both Melissa and Mike were awesome! Mike really went above and beyond the call. He really is awesome and so helpful if anything was needed. We really couldn’t have had the wedding to the level it was if it wasn’t for him. Everything was clean and tidy when we arrived, weather was perfect, the equipment for use was in great shape. Tons of books and games to use. The showers for use were awesome... sauna... steam room... amazing. You will defiantly enjoy your stay at the house!

Holbrook Farms Retreat far exceeded all of our expectations. Each time a new family entered the home they were awed. I think everyone said "This place is awesome!" We all would highly recommend Holbrook Farms Retreat. The privacy of the lake shore and lake were perfect for all of our Littles. Awesome!
I held a weekend retreat here and it was fantastic. The women loved the space, the openness, the ability to find a 'nook' to just "be" and also the openness around the two fireplaces to drop in and visit with each other. Everyone loved this place, it has beautiful energy!

Great place to gather your friends and relax for a weekend!
The place is amazing. You get lost throughout the lodge taking your first initial tour because there is so much to see and great views everywhere. Awesome great room that you’ll most likely spend most of your time because of the access to the kitchen and access to the deck! Friendly people were always a phone call away if we had any questions or concerns about our stay. Will definitely stay here again!

This is a beautiful home and property.
We spent the week here with family. There is room for everyone to enjoy quiet time and large spaces to play games and visit. The paddle boards, paddle boat and kayak were an added bonus as we enjoyed these everyday. Melissa was extremely helpful and always available for questions. I would definitely stay here again!
