Thank you for your review. Yes, the roof over the hot tub was a trade off, but it added covered seating near the tub area, and keeps falling leaves from the trees clogging filters.

( NOTE: I have posted pictures of the cabin taken the SAME DAY that this man checked in ! ) they will be referenced with date of 6/29/23. But his review is truly amazing, and proves that they are not only subjective., but can also be VERY DECEPTIVE. I was personally on the property, when I noticed an elderly couple driving around...obviously, bypassing our office to pick up the key. Speaking with them, they mentioned that they were your parents. At the time, I was with a 'professional' photographer from the State. Of all of the vacation rentals in our area, the State had dispatched him to take pictures, and drone videos (inside and out) of THIS CABIN alone ! Now, if we were as crummy as you describe, I doubt that they would go to that expense. We have been in business since 1984, and our reputation will speak for itself, so I am also not going to allow someone to make false statements, and not offer a reply. Stating that the logs were "covered in dust and mildew" is not a truthful statement, and possibly libelous. The fault that you did NOT read the particulars about the property that were emailed... falls on YOU...starting with your father driving around confused. Everything you complain about was addressed in the email sent to YOU, to include check-in procedures, as well as the situation with 'campfires'. Because, we are located in a heavily forested area, we are often under burn bans and don't won't to add to the environmental catastrophe that Canada wild fires have caused. We also informed you that the beds are firm...and suggest that you bring "pillow top" mattress pads if you choose. You also didn't read about bringing towels, but we brought those to you. We also told you that the internet is limited, because the upgrades to 5G are causing intermittent interruptions and/or slow service. The hot tub ? we told your father that a shift in the deck had caused a small pressure fracture and that the emergency patch was visible but that it was operational....which included all of the jets. No doubt you did not notice the sign "Hi/low jets" and assumed they were broken. Our hot tubs do not have the 'newer' computer touch panels because repairs are difficult. Since we are airing grievances in public, I must share that you were not a welcomed group within the first hour of being present in our community. Faulkner Road, where our properties are located, has a max speed of 25mph. Because its so narrow, and situated along steep hillsides, drivers will slow down, and often stop to allow others to safely pass. Well, a car from your group pulled up and began honking at persons who had briefly stopped to pass one another. One of the persons was me, and I wasn't even given the courtesy of enough time to move my foot from the brake pedal to the gas ! Impatient, rude, or unaware of the hazards....I understand that we are not your kind of place. :-)

Thank you for your comments. The Tv cable runs through the trees...and because of the heavily treed forests the lines are subject to damage from falling limbs. So we have elected to use MiFi boxes that work off a nearby tower. This is of course a cellular connection.. Its usually reliable. However, when the region is experiencing an overload of travelers...I think they slow things down to be able to serve the needs of everyone. This fall has been so warm, it has contributed to an unprecedented amount of tourist traffic in the region..... ...and YES, you will feel like you are "off the grid", but in actuality you are 5 minutes to multiple restaurants (to include non franchise), 10 minutes to major grocery stores, and general mdse (Walmart, etc) Additionally, we use cell communication with our staff,,,to include data as well as calls. So the service exists in the area.

thank you for taking the time to review. You are correct about the items that we do not provide..however, there should have been hot pads as well as kitchen towels. We provide a list of suggested items to bring which includes disposables such as paper towels. As for the 'cooking' supplies, we dispose of any edibles or cooking supplies that previous guests have left behind because we can not assure that its safe for consumption. Any property owner that does otherwise are not operating in a professional manner.

With the busy holiday season upon us, thank you very much for taking the time to comment. We have a great staff of 10 persons, and I don't think most people consider the effects that their comments have on our employees. Our employees care, when many in the world don't. They care to make the stay comfortable in every way. Yes, they can overlook an item, but they are always quick to mitigate any problem that crops up. Positive comments are their job security. YES, you will find the cupboards clean....and BARE ! It has nothing to do with Covid..it has to do with SAFETY. I will also add that ANY host that leaves food stuffs in cabinets is not OPERATING IN A PROFESSIONAL MANNER.. Though you might be lucky, and previous guests have left behind charcoal and lighter :-) Thank you for your review and comments. It gives us an opportunity to explain the differences between us and others. We have been in business for 37 years, we have a staff of 12 persons who have not missed a day because of the worries of Covid, nor did they opt for unemployment. No "Help Wanted" signs here.

thank you for your kind review. We had been experiencing a 'dry' spell, so the river was lower than normal. But the 'river' is named the "Cheat" for a reason....its quickly changing conditions have cheated many out of their lives. Some rain will quickly change the level.

Quite frankly, this property gets booked back to back, and with the covid cleaning that is required, it leaves us little time.' to search' for items that need repaired, replaced, etc. .We don't see this as complaining, we consider it helpful. :-)

Thank you for your comments. I'm sure it will help others when choosing a place that will best suit their needs. ..and for the benefit of others. A large grocery store is about 10 minutes away., but even closer is a convenience store. ..additionally, we email everyone that books in advance a list of items to bring. Amongst those are charcoal briquettes & lighter, paper towels, etc Thanks again, hope you make the Big Poplar a regular.

When lost in a rural area, our phone operators will not be able to help if you are not near landmarks that we recognize....as many times there are no notable landmarks...especially in darkness. Thank you for your comments. Our rural location as beautiful as it is creates challenges. Internet is now available for an additional fee, and must be arranged in advance. Our hot tubs may look old 'style'...but we use these on purpose. The only difference in old versus new types are the electronic control panels. Ours do not have visible control panels with touch screens/keys because it would take weeks to repair if they would stop working. Our property manager who is on premise 24/7, has the technical ability to make all repairs, and we keep on hand a full inventory of parts. We have 2 stage (hi-low) pumps on our hot tubs. They run on low 24/7, continuously filtering to keep the water clean so the the hot tub can be used anytime. Likewise our appliances. We have learned that simple is best. Timers, self cleaning settings, and complex electronic control panels are not user friendly when a guest is not familiar with its operation. Additionally, any malfunctions are not able to be quickly repaired. The level of service we are able to provide sets us apart from other rental properties with hot tubs. We monitor and service our hot tubs DAILY....testing, and then treating as required assure its safe use. Automated systems that are not monitored on a daily basis can create a dangerous situation for its users. Thank you for your patronage.

we are located on the shaver's Fork of the Cheat River....notorious trout stream. This house has a 1/4 mile of private fishing. Yes, they do stop stocking in the dead heat of summer......but believe me, previous anglers didn't catch them all. .but it does become more challenging and that is when knowledge and experience will prevail. NO offense intended :-/

Thank you for your response. We routinely check our kitchen inventory, please let us know if you had specific items that would be convenient. We supply high quality Pfaltzgraff stoneware that matches the decor, shatterproof drinkware (& wine glasses) for safety...quality knife set...but we do not furnish electric appliances like mixers, blenders, etc. simply because if they break our rural location makes a quick replacement not possible. We're glad to know you are planning to return, so please let us know what we need to make your stay even better than the last ! :-)
