'So yes this was 100% a white lotus type experience. That said. The service was impeccable. We went to kinigi for gorilla trekking and Sambora coordinated every detail beyond the permits. They did everything from finding the right outerwear to finding us a great driver. Meals were delicious. We sat every night at a long table with other guests which was fun - we were traveling as a couple so was nice to mix it up. But yes. White lotus. Just be prepared.'

'This hotel is the best place to stay in Kinigi/to gorilla trek! It’s the closest lodge to the Dian Fossey campus and women’s village, and the staff is exceptional. They are very friendly and helpful and went above and beyond. We loved that we’d come back to the hotel and they’d clean our shoes and give us a foot massage. They’d also get a fire going in your room while you are having dinner. We’d come back to bed with a heated bed (thanks to a warm water bottle they place in there) and a fire...

'Our stay at Grotta Resort was very comfortable and the staff were amazing. It’s very convenient if you want to do Gorilla trekking. We were picked up and dropped off at Kigali by the resort, our driver Enock really looked after us and made sure we arrived at our destinations.'

'The house is a 15-20’ walk from the center. Difficult to communicate with the lady (no French, little English) but her husband speaks fluent French. Excellent breakfast, clean and spacious room.'

'Nightmarish experience. I was traveling with a friend who wanted his own room. We booked this hotel at the last minute as it was close to the NP HQs. We arrived at 7 pm to find no front desk, just a bar area that was manned by a young lady who stated that we couldn’t stay as the owner had not been paid. Then the owner called stating that it was late so we could stay and that payment could be discussed in the morning. The hotel did not have wifi as advertised, there was no running or hot water...

With the assistance of some helpful neighbours from the street, we learned that it was available for long term rental. A supervisor (who arrived on bike after being called by one of the neighbours) opened the gates so that we could see the “lodge”. It was completely empty and bereft of any furniture).
