Thanksgiving visit
My family stayed here during Thanksgiving weekend to visit my son of at the U of O. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner, kitchen had everything we needed to prep our meal. We enjoyed playing games and visiting, only negative small tv and couldn’t watch football but otherwise a great house for our family to gather. Close to everything and we enjoyed walking to Nelson’s for dinner one night.

Met our needs
House is well-equipped (but no coffee grinder). Easy directions, lots of room. House was very musty at arrival but with the windows open it aired out. FYI hot water in bathroom sink doesn’t work, but shower was great. Overall a pleasant stay.

Location!
We loved staying at this home. When we weren't sitting in the front yard catching up, we were walking to everything. You really don't need a car once you get here. My son is Vegan and it can be a challenge to find good food. He was thrilled at the variety of options available to him, and it made it easy for all of us. The only thing I didn't like was the $200 in "additional charges" I knew it before I rented of course, but fees that end up being more than the total per night rental cost, is always tough to swallow. Cute neighborhood, clean house (stiff bed in main bedroom, lots of food and bars within walking distance. We'd definitely stay again.

Cozy and convenient
My family stayed here for a track and field meet at Hayward field. The property manager was exceptionally accommodating regarding an early check in. The house is cute and quite roomy - more than enough space for my husband, me and our teenagers. The kitchen is adequate though could use a few more utensils and better knives. The queen bed was lumpy and my husband did not sleep well though all other beds seemed comfortable. Neighborhood was very walkable to coffee, groceries and parks. Overall a very nice stay.

Graduation visit
TV Wi-Fi service was terrible and the mattresses were very hard and the garbage was full when we arrived and had no where to put our garbage. Also a for sale car parked in front of the house leaking antifreeze the entire time we were there so not much parking in front of the house. Other than that we had a great time at the house.

Comfortable cottage in a great neighborhood
This is our second stay at the Whiteaker Art House - we enjoyed it so much last year we returned this year. It’s a comfortable functional affordable home just a block away from Blair Ave and the great assortment of unique restaurants and coffee shops. We stayed 2 weeks and it was a great home base for seeing Eugene.

Eclectic Eugene property
Staying here definitely makes you embrace the Eugene vibe. The house provided what we needed for a weekend stay. Aside from the beds and tv being pretty small, our stay here was very pleasant. My only other comment would be about the owner conducting yard work and construction on the backyard fence for a good portion of our stay which I had not expected but didn’t take away from the overall experience.

Summer concert fun
Four of us stayed at the Art House, a funky but comfy house. We were seeing two concerts at the Cuthbert Amphitheater. We walked to the Ninkasi Brewery for bevs. Many dining options in the ‘hood. It was perfect!

A little tired.
The house was okay but a little tired. It was cleaned well though. The back bedroom had a smell like an animal had urinated in it. The neighborhood was a mix of well maintained properties, and some that are worn out. Also, the morning we were leaving, a neighbor asked us if we had noticed anything sketchy overnight as one of their cars had been stolen off the street!

The place was tidy enough. As other reviews stated the beds were not super comfortable but adequate. Our first night it was cold and rainy. We really needed to turn on the heat but couldn’t find the thermostat. . We called the property manager ttwice and then called the owner. Neither of them returned our call. We found some blankets and took quilts off some of the beds upstairs and made it through the next night. We weren’t at the house much until late at night so it worked but it was very frustrating to be so uncomfortable. Especially when a call would have provided the information. ( it should have been in the book). I was told by a friend that I should call VRBO about it. They were understanding and sent a message to the owners giving them 48 hours to contact me. I was asking for a partial refund. They did not contact me so I again contacted VRBO. They sent the owner an email asking them to respond to VRBO, VRBO would in turn email me about the conversation. Five days later, I still hadn’t heard from VRBO so, I called again. Apparently VRBO can do nothing if you have already left the property. What a waste of my time!!! I’m very disappointed in the property manager as well as VRBO. Completely unsatisfied customer.

Long Weekend Stay
We had a great overall experience. The only down fall of this house is that we couldn’t figure out how to turn the heat on. One of the nights, the house was cold but other than that, we enjoyed our stay. This location is surrounded by so much in walking distance. Would recommend this place!

Nice location but ad is misleading
This house is really cute with a nice layout. When we arrived the house was hot (the heat was on)and it smelled like an animal. We turned heat off and sprayed some stuff they had under the sink. And opened the windows. The next morning I went and got some plug ins and more spray.($42 worth) We covered the couches with some sheets and soon everything felt and smelt like home. We tried to turn heat back on later and it blasted a pet smell so we just turned it off. I really liked the house and location but it’s not 2 baths it’s 1 1/2 bath and the fence is not totallly contained. The are two boards gone in the back we moved the trash cans so our dog couldn’t go to the back. and there is gap in the front side corner that out 27 lb dog got out through. Overall I would stay here again it’s a good house but it has the potential to be great!

Thank you for your feedback. Yes, due to being a pet friendly place to stay, we need to know when a pet smell is present. Your information will help us do the extra cleaning the pet fee covers. We welcome feedback to help us make the Polk Art House a place folks will want to stay with us again.

Great cottage in an fanastic neighborhood
The cottage was exactly as presented - a clean, well stocked, and well maintained period cottage filled with wall murals and art. We didn't use the upstairs, but there is plenty of room up there for a larger group. The bedrooms were roomy and comfortable, the kitchen was useful and had everything we needed. The neighborhood was quiet, nice, and very friendly. But what was great was the location near Blair Boulevard, with the fantastic restaurants, coffee shops, bars, and breweries. Almost everything was within walking distance (1 to 3 blocks), and the Southbank river bike trail was just a few quiet street blocks away - an excellent urban trail that connects to the Northbank trail and out of town into Springfield and beyond.

An Off Beat and Charming House
The only reason I can't give this property a 5 star overall is that while the kitchen has excellent new appliances and cabinetry, it falls short in the pots and pans range provided. It is, however, lovely in artistic and eccentric charm. We had a small issue with the heat but that was quickly resolved with a short call with the manager. As garden people we were all charmed with the exuberant and eclectic mix of flowering plants and shrubs that make the fenced yard a real asset to the ambience of our stay.

Nice roomy house
We rented this house for my family and a friend's family to stay together for our daughter's volleyball tournament so we didn't really spend a lot of time there, but if we ever take a vacation trip to Eugene we will definitely be renting this place. Only downside was how cold it got but after we found the thermostat, everything was great! Kitchen a little small but everything else was spacious and comfortable. Very cool deco, still laughing at my friends reaction when she realized what the bookcase was! Communication was perfect with owners.

Visited our college kid for Thanksgiving
Artsy, comfortable bungalow at the outer edge of downtown Eugene. This house is right where an older Craftsman-era neighborhood shades into brewery and art-cooperative blocks. The neighbors seem like people I would want to know. An easy drive to downtown but a little far for walking. Kitchen equipment is a little skimpy, glad we brought some of our own. This is the second time we’ve stayed here and we’d be happy to come back again.

Great location
Spacious house in a great location! It was just my husband and me who stayed here, but we had plenty of room if our kids or friends had joined us. There were also plenty of extra towels and blankets if we had needed them. This house is in a great location within walking distance to breweries and restaurants. We would definitely stay here again!

Art house is a lovely place to stay!
We stayed here for four nights in some of the hottest days seen in the northwest ever. The house is clean, spacious, convenient to everything. The only change I would make is to provide something to sit on outside in the garden. Will def stay here again!

No A/C, no place to park and a neighborhood near tent cities and homeless encampments.
Rented this VRBO in a pinch not realizing it did not have A/C (other than a tiny window unit in the loft). The good: The house was clean, check in was easy and communication was okay. The bad: The neighborhood is close to homeless encampments and a tent city. There was only street parking and no parking in front of the unit due to numerous existing vehicles. Due to the high temperature in the house we did not stay ( medical condition) and unfortunately had to pay for lodging we could not use. Some kind of partial refund would have been nice but I understand that was not in the rental agreement. However the description of the neighborhood and idea of walking to the nearby breweries and distillery is pretty unrealistic and inaccurate and had I known of the issues I would have passed on this rental.

There are now two A/C units in the house as well as central air circulation. The area was also in the middle of a record breaking heat wave during your stay. We do not have control over where the houseless choose to set up their camps, but the tent city is well over a mile away from the property. The restaurants, breweries and distilleries are also all within 6 blocks of the property, with many other options within a mile. Most people consider this to be well within walking distance.

Perfect for a large family!
It was a great place to stay for our family of 8! We were even able to have family (6more) over one night for dinner and had the space for everyone to be comfortable. There is no air conditioning downstairs, window unit upstairs though which is normal for Eugene. They provided two box fans which was appreciated by our family for sure! Also appreciated that there was laundry soap there to use initially until I bought an additional one since we did a lot of laundry. Loved that it was fenced in for my younger kids to play outside. Can't wait to stay again hopefully next year when we come out.

Overall, my experience staying here was good. We stayed here after a long drive across country to deliver my daughter's car to her at UO. So it definitely gave us a place to rest, cook meals and spend time with my daughter. The communication between host and I made up for any problems/issues I had. However, there are some things that need to be tweeked. A Great Stay
The pictures of this home do not do it justice. I was pleasantly surprised by the space in the home and the quality of the fixtures. The home was very clean. The layout was a bit confusing in the listing but it worked out well for us once we were there. There are two bedrooms downstairs, each with a queen bed. There are three twin size beds upstairs in the attic, two of which are in a room and the other outside that room. The yard worked perfectly for our dogs. There is an additional bathroom in a sunroom though it was a little chilly during our stay. It is a great additional space, though. The table was large enough for our whole party. The living room was large enough and there are chairs throughout the home that can be brought out for more seating. The neighborhood was quiet and friendly. We were close enough to necessities though we stayed in. The heat control was difficult to find so adding that to the house information/rules would be helpful. The kitchen was small but practical. We were able to prepare our family dinner easily, taking turns in the kitchen. The home felt secure and safe both from a cleanliness standpoint and a security standpoint. The value in this home is fantastic. Thank you!
