'Withi-Gill was a beautiful cottage in a remarkable landscape -- views of Hoy and Graemsay were beautiful (when the weather cooperated, which was most days), and with a short walk, views of much of the western part of Mainland Orkney, including Stromness. 'This was a pleasant cottage with parking in front. It was nicely decorated and beds were very comfortable.It was five minutes from a co-op food shop which opens seven days a week 7 am to 10 pm. Almost opposite the bus station and a two minute walk to the ferry. Bike hire is available in Stromness. And we had a great day taking the ferry over to hoy, cycling to Rackwick Bay and walking to see the old man of hoy sea stack. The cottage includes a small washing machine which we did use (only...

'Great location in Kirkwall, close to the information centre, supermarkets, abs the cathedral. Clean as a whistle too! '

'Great apartment right in the centre of Kirkwall town. Literally in the alley few seconds to a bar serving food. Then the harbour front is seconds away Make sure you go into the Albert street car park stay left and turn into, usually a space outside the apartment can park for free. Go up couple steps and will see Ivy house '

'Superb location in the centre of Kirkwall. Perfect for the two of us. There was an allocated parking spot for this particular apartment just out side of the front door, but someone else was parked in it for our entire stay. This is just a comment, not a complaint, as there was additional free parking near by which we used instead.'

'This location was a great place to stay to explore Orkney. We loved the isolated and peaceful area. Plenty to do and see if you are prepared to drive a few miles. Spectacular cliff top walks with an abundance of bird life. The accommodation has everything you need for a self catering holiday. We stocked up with everything we needed from Tesco in Kirkwall after getting off the ferry. '

'The island and cottage were exactly what we needed. There was peace and quiet, which allowed us to slow down and breathe. The local residents we met were friendly and welcoming. The island needs a little investment but we really hope mass tourism doesn't ruin its tranquility.'

"Withi-Gill was a beautiful cottage in a remarkable landscape -- views of Hoy and Graemsay were beautiful (when the weather cooperated, which was most days), and with a short walk, views of much of the western part of Mainland Orkney, including Stromness. The facilities were great, and the cottage was well-equipped for our needs. There's access to a small beach across the road and down a short track along the former millrun. Access to the rest of the mainland by car was easy and especially convenient for Stromness, Stenness, and the "heart of neolithic Orkney" sites (Brodgar, Stenness, even Skara Brae wasn't that far away). The only downside is that the cottage faces a main road down (see photo) which the locals drive very fast all day and night, which can be noisy at times. Finally, Simon was an excellent host, even though we never met in person! All in all, a great stay for us."

"We arrived late from the Shetland Ferry. Instructions to get in were clear. We had a private room but no towels, they were complimentary but had to be provided for by staff and upon arrival there was no staff… so we could not shower in the evening. All was clean and working well. Room was clean and effective - but could be made more friendly by just putting up some pictures or Orkney fotos.. that would really make a difference. Staff was very accomodating and nice, breakfast room was pleasant. We had an okay stay but all in all found it quite high priced for the basic facilities we got. "
