  • De prachtige Suffolk Heritage Coast en Norfolk Broads zijn gemakkelijk te bereiken vanaf dit huisje met rieten dak dat dateert van meer dan 300 jaar .. Begane grond:
    Woonkamer: met open haard, Freeview-tv, iPod-dock, DAB-radio, cd-speler en houten vloer.
    Keuken / eetkamer: met elektrisch fornuis, magnetron, koelkast, vriezer, vaatwasser, wasmachine en droger.
    Slaapkamer 1: met eenpersoonsbed en en-suite met douchecabine en toilet.

    Slaapkamer 2: met tweepersoonsbed.

Dit vrijstaande huisje met rieten dak dateert uit meer dan 300 jaar en biedt een vredig uitzicht op het platteland in de buurt van de grens tussen Norfolk en Suffolk. Het huisje is al vele generaties in het bezit van de eigenaar en is liefdevol gerenoveerd om alle moderne gemakken te bieden met behoud van zichtbare balken, houten vloeren en open haarden.
    Een warm welkom is het hele jaar door verzekerd met open haarden in de woonkamer en boerderij keuken. Een perfect afgelegen vakantieverblijf op een werkende akkerbouwboerderij, met een grote, omheinde tuin. Een ideale uitvalsbasis voor tochten, de prachtige kust van Suffolk Heritage en Norfolk Broads zijn gemakkelijk te bereiken.
    De nabijgelegen historische marktsteden Eye en Diss hebben een interessant aanbod van winkels en restaurants, Diss heeft ook een zwembad en directe treinverbindingen naar Londen. Bury St. Edmunds en de levendige stad Norwich zijn in minder dan een uur te bereiken. Winkel 3 mijl, pub 1 mijl.

    Winter brandstof en elektriciteit supplement £ 40 per week. Er zijn niet-omheinde vijvers in de buurt. Maximaal drie honden.

We have been visiting The Old House for 8 years. If you like solitude this is the place for you…surrounded by fields..no sounds other than the birds and the rustle of the trees….Shops and good Pub Grub are to be found in and around Diss which is about 20 minutes in the car..

5th time we’ve been to The Old House.

5th time we’ve been to The Old House.. we love the peace, the walks from the door, the short car ride to Diss, the log fires in the lounge and kitchen, the recliner chair and settee’s, the close proximity to several pubs serving excellent food at a reasonable price, the beautiful heathland walks with the dogs at Knettashall . Wonderful peaceful cottage

I wouldn’t hesitate booking this cottage again, it was absolutely delightful. The owner Colin was welcoming and gave a lovely intro to the cottage. It’s so peaceful, surrounded by farmland and the common. We had young children with us and they loved playing games in the garden, and they’re keen foragers and ate blackberries, apples and plums from the surrounding land and orchard for breakfast, lunch and dinner! It was very comfortable, especially the chairs in the living room. We had a fab time. The cottage is wonderfully quirky with wonky ceilings, walls and floors. This wasn’t a problem for us although there are some low beams so watch out. Despite having two people over 6ft who did bang their heads on the first day, we soon learned and it wouldn’t put us off booking again. Thank you Colin!

Fantastic location if you like the quiet life.

Fantastic location if you like the quiet life. We had a lovely welcome by the owner Colin who took his time to show us around and talk about the cottages history plus provide us with a welcome pack of cake and biscuits. Although in a rural area surrounded by farms & fields the town of Diss is only a fifteen minute drive away which has a lovely park and main street, it also has several supermarkets. The cottage has a well equipped kitchen, everything you need for a self catering holiday. The garden is huge and is fully enclosed, ideal for any size of dog. A huge bonus was being able to access the adjacent orchard and several fields which are part of the Suffolk common. Almost every day we were blessed with the sight of seeing wild deer roaming said fields. We will definitely be returning next year.

If you are wanting peace and tranquility and off lead walking with your dogs just outside your back gate, and if it is of no concern that it is roughly a 15 minutes round trip just to get the morning paper and fresh bread, then this beautiful cottage is an absolute must. Everything you could need has been thought of down to little boxes of tissues in bedrooms and lounge along with the latest magazines. There wasn’t a utensil we needed that wasn’t provided, and the welcome gifts were generous and just perfect for us. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this cottage and hope to return.

One hour from Southwold and Walderswick. One hour from Sutton Hoo. Lovely surrounding villages and pubs. Easy walking straight from the door.

Our 3rd time at the Old House.

Our 3rd time at the Old House...It’s like being at home foot comfort..the 3 settees and the arm chair are all recliners,there’s an open working fire in the kitchen and sitting room..TV both rooms.. Well appointed kitchen.. Walks for the dogs straight from the door.. Knettishall Heath is a short drive .its a marvellous place for walking..acres of land.good paths,a streamfor the dogs to paddle in,wild ponies.. Although there are no shops in Mellis,Diss is good for shopping..3 supermarkets and a very pretty little town.. A short drive to some very good,very old pubs..really good food..highly recommend The Four Horseshoes..an 8 minute drive and well worth a visit..large car park..
