This is a spacious, attractive, well-appointed house that has everything needed for a comfortable stay in Freeport. It's in a great location to access area beaches. The layout and airiness of the house are really nice. The owners have a good grasp of the hospitality business. However, there are some minor problems in the execution.
First and foremost, the location. We discovered two days into the stay that one of the 'neighbors' were running a business next to us We were awakened around 7:30 am to the sound of chairs and canoes being moved about, loud tour guides talking, and music playing. This happened sporadically on different days. A nearby business (on the beach) kept us up late one night with very loud bass on their music system but was quiet other nights. Had we known about this in advance, we might have gone elsewhere. However, some folks might not even notice; if you're expecting dead quiet, you're probably not going to find it unless you drive 30 miles to the east end of the island.
Secondly, aesthetics. The house really could use a complete remodel. The master bath has some moldy caulk and tile grout, a broken showerhead, corroded tub fixtures, and other minor problems. Our socks grew dark from walking around on the floors, which looked clean enough but apparently weren't. The house is really a microcosm of the island itself: functional but a little shabby and out-of-date. Better attention to cleaning details (refrigerator door, cabinet pulls, flooring, etc) are suggested. Attention to functional details (ensuring all light fixtures have working bulbs, tires on the bike are inflated, windows don't stick, etc) is also suggested.
The owners were pleasant and professional. However, we are used to not having to interact at all with the owners. There is something a little awkward about this and is why most VRBO rentals have a lockbox. We were also very slightly pressured not to use the air conditioning and leave the windows open, because of the cost of electricity, something we trust isn't expected during the summer months.
In short, this was a good value and an enjoyable place to stay. A few dollars to remedy some of the minor issues noted above, and some better attention to detail and this rental can easily be a four (or higher) star property. The noise situation, however, needs to be clearly explained up-front. Again, many people would not even be aware of the activity next door. It wasn't excessive or unreasonable, just unexpected
