Waterfront Retreat w/ Sauna | Whales & Sunrises

Summary:

Private waterfront on San Juan Island: unobstructed ocean views, sunrises off the deck, and whales passing through in season. Minutes to Roche Harbor, 15 to Friday Harbor. The main house has two bedrooms and a stone sauna off the master; a detached apartment sleeps another 3–4 with its own entrance. Deer in the yard, eagles overhead, and the kind of quiet you came to the islands for. Book the whole property and spread out.



The Space:

Main house — 2 bedrooms Open living space oriented to the water, with the view doing most of the decorating. The master bathroom opens directly to a stone sauna, the detail guests remember and the reason a lot of them book. 2 Bedroom, 2 Bath, Laundry, pellet fireplace. - Note primary shower is a clawfoot bathtub with shower wand and not enclosed.



Detached apartment — sleeps 3–4 Fully separate entrance and its own space, so in-laws, teenagers, or a second couple get real privacy. Private half bath.



Outside Deck and yard facing the water. Blacktail deer come through most mornings and evenings. Bald eagles, herons, and kingfishers work the shoreline year-round. Orcas and humpbacks pass in season bring binoculars and leave them on the table.



Guest Access:

Guests have the entire property, the main house, detached apartment, deck, yard, and shoreline access.



Parking for 6 vehicles in the driveway. A car is essential here; there's no transit on this part of the island.



The Neighborhood:

You're just outside Roche Harbor , the historic resort village at the north end of the island, with a marina, restaurants, the sculpture park, and the evening flag ceremony that's worth catching once.



Friday Harbor is 15 minutes away for the ferry landing, groceries, the whale museum, and a real restaurant scene.



Nearby: Lime Kiln Point State Park ("Whale Watch Park") on the west side, English Camp and American Camp at San Juan Island National Historical Park, San Juan Island Sculpture Park, lavender farms, an alpaca farm, and a handful of tasting rooms. Kayak tours and whale-watch boats run out of both Roche and Friday Harbor.



Most of the island is 20 minutes or less from the front door.



Other Things to Note:

Getting here: Anacortes ferry to Friday Harbor, then about 15 minutes by car. Reserve your vehicle spot on the Washington State Ferries site well in advance in summer, walk-on is easy, driving on is not. Kenmore Air flies floatplanes into Roche Harbor and Friday Harbor if you'd rather skip the ferry.



The sauna is a stone sauna in the master bedroom, not a spa facility — full instructions are in the house guide, and we ask that it's used dry, sober, and never alone.



Wildlife: deer will visit the yard. Please don't feed them. Whale sightings are seasonal and never guaranteed, peak months are roughly May through September.



Island realities: groceries are limited and pricier than the mainland, cell service can be patchy in spots, and last ferry off the island is earlier than you'd think. Plan accordingly.
