Perfect Cabin for a Weekend Getaway
We booked this cabin for a weekend getaway with friends and everyone absolutely enjoyed their time here. The location was perfect, the cabin was clean and cozy, and communication with the owner was great.

Enjoyable Getaway
Property was as the pictures showed except the dock is not the one in the photos. We ended having a great time and the cabin was small but exactly what we needed since we spent our time on the lake. I recommend to ask details about the where the boat dock is located so you have the info ahead of time. Definitely recommend for a quick quiet getaway, beautiful view of the lake.

Cabin in April
The cabin was well equipped, but a WiFi would have been appreciated. If I had thought of it earlier, I would have reserved a "hot spot" from my local library for the trip. The owner had lots of cute decorations and supplies that made us feel more at home. The cabin was very close to a boat ramp which we used each day. Although the driveway was a little tight, there was plenty of space for our boat once we learned how to navigate the space. Denise (owner) was very helpful with restaurant suggestions. It was close enough to some major towns (about 20 minutes to Marion) for groceries since the local store and eating places (about 5 miles) close early. A local gas station had ethanol free as for boats, for which we were thankful. Although the fish were not biting, we have a great time. Thanks Densie.

Perfect Getaway Cabin near the lake
We had a fabulous time at the cabin and our girls, ages 5 and 10 loved the loft! They felt like they were on a great adventure! We were able to access the lake through a gated private area and spent a lot of time fishing from the shore and dock. The cabin was spotless when we arrived and there was even Charcoal for us to grill out. The only recommendation I would make is for a few more cooking utensils, etc. as we are big cooks, but we had enough of what we needed and made do with no problems. I loved that it was so peaceful and we were made to feel welcome. The girls asked when we could go back!

perfect weekend getaway
This cabin was just perfect for my husband and I to enjoy a little RNR for the weekend. beautiful view of the Lake. Cabin was very clean and had everything we needed. Close proximity to Shawnee National Forest and wineries. We will return to Lake of Egypt next year

Great girls weekend!
This is a gem tucked away on Lake of Egypt with beautiful views. The cabin was very clean and well equipped for all of your daily needs. Great location with many hiking trails nearby. We will definitely return in the fall.

Great location for our Adult Weekend !
Had an amazing time !! Cabin owner was very helpful and efficient! Deck area was great for grilling out dinner and spending time with our friends. Location was perfect for us renting a boat for the whole weekend, as we were able to tie it close to cabin and go in for lunch and the small rain shower we got one day. Lake of Egypt was extremely clean!! We Will definitely be back! !

I appreciated the communication with the owner but had wished it was more timely. I appreciated that she gave us her phone number which helped. There were some amenities that we usually experience in other locations that were not present at this property, for example: No soap for the shower, inadequate materials to use the grill, furniture not in ideal shape (kitchen table chairs were wobbly and coming apart), no cookie sheets for baking, pillows in bedroom were not bed pillows but couch pillows with a pillow case, and inadequate knives for slicing. I usually am not critical of locations but this site appeared to have a few more items needed to use that could not be found.

Perfect Getaway
Perfect spot to disconnect. No WiFi at the cabin and limited TV channels means plenty of time to relax unbothered. Lots of hiking trails close by and breweries as well. The stairs to the loft are a bit tricky to navigate (at a certain point, my head was touching the ceiling so I had to crawl the rest of the way up), but, other than that, I have nothing bad to say. Denise was incredibly easy to contact and answered any and all questions in a timely manner.

Three Old-rrr Hens!!
Fun, relaxing place to stay. My sisters and I wanted a clean, secure, and restful cabin and this was perfect for us!! It is nestled among nearby properties though we only saw a couple of folks out all weekend. Up the hill from a boat ramp, small beach, and picnic area. It was simply peaceful!! The loft was fun for us...and the whole cabin was perfect!! And the VIEW.... so tranquil....we were there to relax, eat and drink, and spend time together. Perfect weekend!! Thank you so much!

Cozy and Comfortable
Great place for a writing get away for me. Comfortable and clean. Master bed is only a double, so might be cozy for some couples depending on what they are used to. I peeked into the sleeping loft. Two single beds, one at each end of the cabin, which would be fine for teens and younger, but getting into the loft would be tricky for most adults. Beautiful setting on Lake of Egypt made it very peaceful.

Pretty good - could be great with a little bit of effort
Cozy clean cabin, nice central location for exploring the Shawnee forest and the surrounding area. We enjoyed time on the deck, grilling over the coals in the fire pit, and waking up to birds chirping. A few additions (less than $100) could make for a better experience vs. the rent charged: a couple larger pans/pots - it was a bit of a challenge to make meals for 3 adults, so I can't imagine how a group of 6 would do breakfast. A cutting board and a full sized knife (although the 2 inch ones were quite sharp!), a set of tumblers/glasses - no need for anything fancy, but would be nice to not drink wine out of coffee mugs :)

Great getaway!!!
We really enjoyed our stay, a great cabin in a great location with a beautiful view. There is a boat launch and beach area just about 2 lots over, can't beat how close it is! Just a short drive to wineries and Shawnee National Forest. Would definitely stay here again!!!

The cabin was amazing. Perfect for the 2 off us! Denise was very accommodating and communicative! My husband will be back in late October for some Crappie fishing. Definitely a must return... Thank you!!

Beautiful cozy cabin with a great deck!
We really enjoyed staying at this cabin. The pictures do not do it justice. The best part was the cute deck, the cozy wooded lake views and the fire pit. Our kids enjoyed the loft space since it felt like a tree house kinda hideaway. My kiddos are 6 and 8 years old and had no problems up there. I will say the stairs are more like a ladder so it could be dangerous for toddlers or older people. There is also a ground level bedroom for though. We were a little underwhelmed with the beach / dock area as it was not well maintained. That is not the fault of the owner since it is a common area. I wished there was more room for storage of our things so we could unpack for the week instead of living out of our suitcases- no dressers or closets or even a suit case stand that would have helped me feel more relaxed. Also BYO wine bottle opener and wine glasses- scored those at the Dollar General Store for a $1 each (conveniently 10mins down the road). There is no wifi at the cabin and only a few TV channels but we were able to get a solid hotspot with verizon. This allowed the kids to watch a movie on netflix via our laptop at the end of the day when they were pooped from fishing, swimming, and hiking. The hotspot also saved me since it allowed me to work and even do zoom as needed without going into town to pick up service. Overall it was a very nice trip and we would love to go there again. We love the Shawnee National Forest and all the area has to offer.

We enjoyed our time in Goreville
We had a very nice time staying at the cabin on Lake of Egypt in Goreville. It is a short walk to the beach area down a paved slope from the house. The lake is a good size, warm and clean. The local people were so friendly everywhere we went which was something we enjoyed. We made day trips to Ferne Clyffe State park which was near by and beautiful. Then we drove to the Shawnee National forest for the day and it was really something to see the rock formations and beautiful trails. It is worth it to make the one hour drive we felt. One thing we did do was rent a pontoon boat from Mack's Marina for the day. By doing this we were able to explore the entire lake and swim in the bay areas. We were a little nervous since we do not have experience boating, but they showed us everything we needed to know and once we took the plunge and booked for the day we were really glad we did. On the downside regarding the rental, the cleaning fees and "service fee" of over 300 dollars seemed a bit excessive to us for 6 days. This was equal to nearly 2 days of rental fee. We were aware ahead, but when booking and comparing to other VRBO's keep this in mind.. We enjoyed our stay and loved seeing the deer and fawn on nearly every outing to the town. Walt's Restaurant and double crust Pizza was recommended by one of the locals and it was really good. We went into Marion for that, also near by. We had a terrific vacation in our home state of Illinois and we would book this rental again.

The stairs to the 2 beds in the loft are very, very steep. At the top of the stairs in the loft, the roof is also very steep. On the right side of the ladder at the top was a height of about 6 inches. On the left side of the ladder at the top was a height of about 30 inches. This meant that at the top of the ladder you had to crawl a few feet on your hands and knees. Even in the center of the loft, my husband could not stand up straight. I would have appreciated knowing this via the listing before booking. The location was great and the view very nice from the deck. Parents will want to be watchful of their children in the loft and on the stairs. The house was very clean when we arrived.

weekend stay
property is gorgeous and cabin is beautiful inside. FYI, the two extra beds are in a loft space that requires using a ladder...deck is beautiful right next to the lake. only disappointment was in the beginning because it was tough to get a hold of the owner when we arrived and had to wait over hour to get keys...I'm grateful the weather was nice and we could sit on the deck but waiting for keys for a service that we already paid for was a debbie downer...communication needs to be better with the owner as she does not have a cell phone (land line only) so texting does not go through. Once she arrived with the keys, all was smooth sailing!
