At the other hand I feel obliged to reply to your misleading headline! We have never advertised our hotel being on the beach or next to the port. The distance is equally 600m and 1800m walking on the road since the island hardly has a pavement for pedestrians. Nevertheless all drivers are fully aware of that and at no time one feels threatened by them while walking. The cost for a taxi is fixed. 5e,10e,15e since it’s a short drive everywhere and paying by meter doesn’t apply. Your comment concerning the temper of the drivers is bad since only the pick-up point matters. Any traveler should know that renting a vehicle is needed since the island is the largest on Cyclades. Otherwise you miss the true essence of Naxos if you only spend your time on the beach and shops Moreover, its wise indeed to look before you book a hotel if its located on the same the area you wish to be too.
