We were lucky enough to snag this beautiful cabin for a winter getaway in northern Minnesota between Christmas and New Year’s. This lake home is such a lovely place to stay and is beautiful both inside and out. The open floor plan and large lake-facing windows make the inside bright and airy. With indoor restaurant dining closed during the time of our stay, I appreciated the fully outfitted and functional kitchen.
My two girls loved the kids’ room! We’d love to come back sometime with all their cousins because the room can fit a whole gaggle of kids.
The main bedroom is spacious yet cozy at the same time. The gas fireplace is a nice feature and the large bed was so comfortable. It seems silly to mention, but so many places that look nice on the surface have the worst beds! A bad night’s rest makes me grumpy—not ideal when I’m supposed to be on a relaxing vacation. All that to say, I was thankful to wake up refreshed and rested each morning.
We had grand plans of doing some snowshoeing, but alas! Mother Nature did not cooperate with enough snow. We did some boot skating on the lake instead (the girls were fascinated by the shells frozen in the ice), and went to Itasca State Park to check out the headwaters in winter.
What makes this place more than just nice to look at are the little touches by the conscientious owners. There was a s’mores kit waiting for us on arrival—again something my kids greatly appreciated. :) The extra blankets throughout the cabin were perfect for cuddling up with by the fire and were nice and soft. There was plenty of soap, paper towels, and other cleaning supplies to easily tidy up. And the guestbook clearly explained all the nitty-gritty details. The directions for how to build a fire in the living room fireplace are so easy, even this city girl had no problem getting a roaring fire going.
All in all, we loved staying here. If you have the chance to book this place, don’t hesitate—you’ll have a great getaway!
