This property was beautiful, quiet and the staff is amazing. Its a little drive to Hilo but worth it. So much to see and do in the area. They also have a book in the room that is a wealth of information about the area. It is available to buy and we advise to get a copy. We highly recommend cottages to anyone traveling to the area.

We stayed 3 nights @ the cottage. The property is well kept, the room is spotless, very nice decoration. The room looked exact like in the pictures. You can watch the sunrise from your beautiful patio. You can cacth those birds singing if you are an early morning person. We will definitely stay here again if we revisit the island.

Lovely stay at the Mahana House! Randy was extremely helpful and even had eggs available for us to make a delicious breakfast in the morning in the shared kitchen space. We also enjoyed our walk around the farm and had a beautiful evening in the patio. We were fortunate to have mostly quiet space to ourselves, but in the morning the neighboring room had a very loud guest who disrupted the morning sleep. But, as long as there are conscious guests next door all should be well! Wonderful stay!

Aloha, thank you for the kind words. Sorry about the issue you had, sometimes people dont realize that a small property like this you can really hear other people. The rooms are well insulated for sound between each other, however most of the time everyone has their windows open. Thank you again for staying with us and letting us know.

It was so amazing!! The view is stunning and the cottage was perfect! It is a little bit far away from grocerie store, but waterfalls are nearby and it is very good to relax and enjoy the view.

We loved our short stay at the Mahana House Country Inn during our week long honeymoon on the Big Island. Mahana House was our favorite beating out another nice cottage in Volcano and two resort hotels in Hilo and Kona Waikoloa. We will be back on our next Hawaiian vacation and will definately stay longer at Mahana House. Mahalo!!!

The facilities were absolutely top notch and the staff/owners are all terrific people. It’s about 20 min to Hilo and you’re basically living in a tropical paradise so the drive was minor. There’s 6 giant we’ll taken care of rescue cats that love people and roam the entire facility but live outside. The cats will also leave you be if you’re not a cat person (my gf is lightly allergic to them and had no issue). Great communication from the owners and they were quick to respond to anything. There’s a shared kitchen with basically a red “bat phone” to contact the owners directly if anything is needed. Plus they put out fresh picked fruit daily as it was available. Lychee’s, avocado, caretaker Val dropped off bananas and tangerines. Nice place to stay, quiet, clean, friendly, newer, well taken care of and newer. Security Cameras and lighted areas for safety. Lots of common areas. I truly believe they are trying to make sure your stay is great, and ours was.

Loved this unit and this property. Everything was new and the area was very quiet. Perfect for a weekend getaway for a couple or some alone time to catch up with work or think through a life issue. It is about 20 minutes from Hilo and there are very few restaurant or store options nearby, which is a hassle if you are looking for nightlife. But if you are looking for a quite place to enjoy some beautiful nature and unwind, this is for you.

My stay at Mahana House Country Inn was so wonderful. So peaceful with a beautiful view of the ocean and lovely property to walk around. Having a kitchenette was so convenient but then having access to a full size fully stocked kitchen made this place top notch. Their generous hospitality was felt throughout my stay. As a pet lover I really loved having the cats come over every time I left my unit. So friendly. I highly recommend this stay and would definitely stay if I am back in the area again. Heather

A wonderfully appointed inn, on beautiful grounds filled with fruit trees. We stayed in the condos, and the setting and accommodations were really great. Randy and Allison have provided all that you need for a room, as well as access to the house with kitchen. The added bonus of longans and bananas from the property adds to the charm. Definitely worth a repeat visit.

I have family in Hakalau and the location of the Mahana House Country Inn couldn't have been any better. I didn't realize at the time that I booked it, but it turned about to be within walking distance. The property is secluded and is well kept. Great place to get some R&R from the fast paced life.

What a wonderful country in Alison and Randy have created! We only had two nights here, but really should’ve spent at least five. The beautiful room at full amenities and there was even more available in the common area in the main house. They have thought of everything‘s! And there is so much to see and do in the area.

A piece of paradise
This place is out of this world. The owners are so friendly and helpfull. The rooms are clean and very well equiped, and then there is the big room and kitchen area that has everything you could need when staying. The BBQ is great (gas) we used it to cook burgers one night. The location is perfect for exploring this part of the Big Island. If you are considering staying here just book it now.

Beautiful view & quiet. Although we did not use them, there was a laundry area and a kitchen. Loved the room: everything we needed was there, including space for our things. Some hotel rooms are very nice, but they don’t give you much room for your “stuff.” It was very well appointed, clean and spacious

A unique experience with an unobstructed view of the ocean. The room has arguably the best sunrise view. The lychee farm in the back is heavenly, we picked fresh lychee for breakfast everyday of our stay. The nights are filled with birds chirping and cats lying on your laps.

We enjoyed staying here. As a big cat lover I was pleased of the friendly cats they had. The only negative side was the noise which started between 7-8am on mornings. We stayed in unit number 1 so I think that the staff started their day in the room next to ours. Also a sponge for dishes in the room would be nice to have - now we had to borrow it from the kitchen.

Aloha, thank you for staying with us and your review. Our staff don't start until 10am, so perhaps it was other guests you heard. We do provide dish cloths and towels, not putting sponges in the rooms for environmental reasons (though they are available upon request).
