Calm Waters Cabin: RELAX-sauna & jacuzzi tub RECREATE-water & snowmobile trials

Our 3000 sq.ft. log home is located on Portage Lake (just 9 miles from Houghton). Our peaceful home sits in a bay waiting for your arrival. All four seasons present an opportunity to have a wonderful getaway. Nothing compares to the tranquil experience of waking up by the water. Your morning coffee can be savored on one of our three outdoor covered porches as you watch various wildlife come alive (whitetail deer, otters, eagles, ducks, loons, birds, squirrels etc.). On cool mornings you can enjoy the beautiful view in the warmth of the cozy cabin with a burning fire.

During beautiful UP summer days this is a great place for swimming, paddle boarding, kayaking, boating, fishing, and campfires. In the winter months there is access to snowmobile trails (1/4 mile away) , ice fishing, snowshoeing, and down hill & cross country skiing, In all four seasons you can find biking and hiking trails nearby. Take time to visit the Quincy Mine and the Keweenaw Historic National Park, shop in downtown, and eat at delicious UP restaurants. MTU is also only 11 miles away.

On indoor days our cozy cabin has books, games, and is connected to the outside world through Shorewaves wifi and Dish TV. You can keep yourself comfortable with central air in the summer and a propane fireplace & furnace in the winter. Our kitchen is fully equipped and we do our best to provide a few initial staples for your arrival (salt, pepper, seasonings, pan spray, toilet paper, & soaps). Nothing beats NOT having to pack any linens and bedding...our Restonic beds are all ready for you to rest your head. Prior to doing so, the sauna and jacuzzi tub can help you unwind at the end of the day. A washer and dryer is available for lightly soiled loads.

We do ask that our home is enjoyed by our guests and not large groups. Make this retreat a place to create heart warming memories with family/friends at Calm Waters Cabin!

-3 covered porches: driveway side, lake side off the dining room, & by the water off the bunk house
- Warm weather months only: Row boat with oars; paddle boat; two kayaks with oars; paddle board with oar; an assortment of life jackets are provided and required

dit vakantiehuis ligt aan het strand in Hancock. Twee lokale bezienswaardigheden zijn Houghton–Hancock Bridge en Quincy Mine. Voor wat leuke activiteiten ben je bij Copper Hoist Chair Lift en Mont Ripley Ski Area aan het juiste adres. Mine Shaft en A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum zijn ook zeker het bezoeken waard. Raas in volle vaart naar beneden dankzij geweldige langlaufmogelijkheden en snowboardervaringen of doe mee aan andere buitenactiviteiten, zoals sneeuwscooteren en schaatsen. We stayed here for our snowmobiling trip to the UP. This log cabin is beautiful with all the amenities. It is on the lake. The hosts are very gracious, nice people and made themselves available if we needed to contact them for anything. They have very clear instructions within the cabin and the email communication to the point of our stay, and communication as needed throughout was perfect. I highly recommend staying at this cabin if you're in the area for any vacation, winter or summer. Fabulous.

Everything was absolutely perfect! The picturesque cabin offered stunning views of the lake, and the sauna and hot tub were a great way to relax. It’s only a 15-minute drive to downtown Houghton, but the cabin is very secluded, making it a perfect getaway. My family and I will definitely be back in the near future!

Awesome stay!We had an amazing stay at Calm Waters Cabin during our snowmobiling trip to the Keweenaw Peninsula. The cabin was the perfect home base for our trip. After long days out on the trails, it was exactly what we needed to come back to and relax.The location is fantastic for snowmobiling, with easy access to trails and plenty of space for gear. The cabin itself was comfortable, spacious, and stocked with everything you could need. We especially appreciated how quiet and peaceful it was.Shelly was a wonderful host—she helped with our travel plans and made the entire stay smooth and easy. We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend Calm Waters Cabin for a winter getaway or snowmobiling trip.

The location was perfect for respite from the hustle and bustle of city life and it was only about a 15 min drive into Hougton and Mt Ripley and about an hour (even with snowy weather and slick roads) drive to Mt Bohemia.Shelly was quick to respond when we had questions and couldn't start the fireplaced. She even had her son come out to fix it for us within a couple hours!The cabin was cozy and equipped with extra blankets, all the cooking utensils we needed to make dinners.The dry sauna was a perfect was the end a busy day of snowshoeing and skiing.

The hosts were incredibly responsive and kind - they truly thought of everything to make our stay comfortable. We were welcomed with a thoughtful treat basket, and the house itself had every amenity you could think of. The location was absolutely picturesque, and we even got to enjoy some local wildlife.
