This has the look of a country house but once inside it needs attention. It is also close to busy road so lots of road noise. Old worn frayed carpets on stairs, dark furniture everywhere.
Our room was on the top floor and very cramped, it was extremely hot and the plug in fan provided was inadequate so sleeping difficult.
The breakfast was disappointing with no fruit, honey, cold meats or cheese for anyone who preferred continental to a cooked English Breakfast of (overcooked) bacon, sausage, beans, scrambled egg and hash browns prepared and left in keep warm containers on a table. No croissants or pastries just supermarket sliced white or brown bread on offer.
We knew this was a dog friendly hotel but wasn’t prepared for dogs sitting on the chairs in the breakfast room! My husband was bitten by a guest’s dog whilst having a drink in the garden, the same dog bit the hotel owner as well. Yet still the guest was allowed to let the dog in the restaurant (on the chairs) and in the garden off the lead.
We are dog lovers but there are limitations about how much freedom they should have and certainly around areas containing food.
Overall a disappointment, the staff are friendly but we wouldn’t recommend staying here unless of course you have a dog yourself.
