'We stayed here while at the State Fayre festival and will definitely stay here again if there is another festival next year. Friendly staff, lovely gardens and comfortable rooms (although air conditioning would’ve been nice during the heatwave!) Only suggestion would be: upgrade the toiletries in the rooms please. Two tiny watery bottles is not enough!'

'Budget hotel met vlotte en super vriendelijke bediening. Eetgelegenheid voor lunch en diner aan democratische prijzen met ruim aanbod. Er zijn ook nog veel andere eetgelegenheden en enkele dipermarktjes in de Dukestreet om de hoek. Bovendien ligt het op wandelafstand van het centrum, station en ligt het op zeer korte afstand van enkele bushaltes. Verwacht echter geen luxe, de kamers zijn ok maar hier en daar hangen wat dingen los. Ik ga er in ieder geval in juli es terug voor een nachtje.'

'Ik heb 12 nachten overnacht in Campanile Basildon. Daar heb ik de vriendelijkste, sympathiekste en meest attente mensen leren kennen. Uiteraard heb je voor dat geld geen kasten met gouden randjes of een sterrenrestaurant... Maar ik had een nette kamer, met iedere dag verse lakens, handdoeken en koffie-melk-suiker-theezakjes. Het engels ontbijt was elke ochtend weer heerlijk. Ook 's avonds genoot ik elke keer van een heerlijk avondmaal. Ik snap niet waarom dit hotel zo weinig sterren krijgt....

'The bathroom was dirty, clearly had not been cleaned properly in some time, there was hair all over the floor, dirt build up around the shower tray and shower itself. Windows were also very dirty. The breakfast bag is not worth it as it’s not ready to go you have to wait 10mins for the hot part!'

'Excellent well kept property, the only issue is there is no parking with the property and local Chelmsford parking is restrictive only till 5am and the local carparks are exceptionally expensive.'

'The room was very clean, and the beds were very comfortable, although the room was small, and if you ended up stuck inside, you’d quickly become claustrophobic. Likewise, the picture used to advertise the hotel is not a picture of any public or restaurant space in the hotel building, but a picture of the pub/restaurant 150 feet away. There is no public space you can hang out in within the hotel building. The price could not be beat, however. The fan for the bathroom was totally ineffective and...

'Lovely hotel with very helpful and personable staff. Breakfast was superb.'

'Lovely, interesting old building in a very good location. Given the age of the hotel there are the inevitable uneven floors and slightly steep stairs. The free parking at the rear of the hotel is a real bonus. Our room was comfortable, well equipped and pleasantly decorated. The breakfasts were consistently good but sadly the hotel does not provide evening meals. All the staff were cheerful and very helpful. We would definitely stay here again.'
