An average hotel pretending to be a luxury hotel, I've stayed at several Anantara properties. This by far would be the lowest rated of the lot. Located in a not ideal area. Not a nice beach and the lagoon is not particularly beautiful either. Service, especially in the main building and main restaurant, is inadequate in relation to the standards of an Anantara resort. The restaurant is like a waiting room in a train station and you constantly feel like a volunteer in a kindergarten. ...... There is no question of relaxed dining in a luxurious ambience here. Photoshop has also done its job here with the official pictures. The quality and selection of the food is mediocre, especially compared to other hotels (we know what we are talking about as we were guests in 6 excellent 5 star hotels during our round trip). On top, food and drinks are totally overpriced (sometimes 3 times the price of better 5 star hotels in the country........Pizza Magaretha 18 US $.... with what justification remains a mystery to me. No value for money! Maintenance on buildings are needed especially on the pool decks ……never saw a 5 star hotel neither any anatara in this bad shape. Fish smells from the head my regards to the poor management of the hotel….. totally overpriced hotel with poor facilities. We are very disappointed with this Anantara Resort because it does not have the usual standard and totally overpriced........ Travel 174 km south to Tangalle and check at Anantara peace heaven !

A fantastic resort..
A nice clean hotel, the staff service was exceptional. The position of the hotel was in a secluded island and the buildings were newish. My main worry was that i wouldn't have an internet at times, but again, i was pleased that it was an always on. The food was of a very high standard, the two restaurants both served meals for their respective cuisines. The buffet restaurant did a bit of everything.. Had a ace time, very much having to leave the place.

Good and bad. It’s a beautiful property with beautiful pools. But there’s nothing to do in or around. Food and drink is grossly overpriced, and I speak as someone who had just spent 5 days at the best hotel in Colombo, which was cheap in comparison. Service which is meant to be friendly becomes intrusive and formulaic. Expect several calls a day to the room. This is what I come on holiday to get away from. For instance, order room service and 5 minutes later a call to see how it is - which means interrupting your meal and answering the phone. In the end I ignored all calls. Unfortunately I could not find a way to silence the room phone, or I would have done. This was exacerbated by the fact that I was added to the WhatsApp of a manager without warning on the day before arrival, and then sent numerous messages trying to upsell services. There are some security issues. The pool villas cannot be locked. Yes the garden is surrounded by a wall, but it would only take a ladder. I did not like the idea of sleeping in an unlocked room. It would not be an issue but for the fact that a public road bisects the resort by the villas and therefore practically anyone can gain access, as is evidenced by the touts that congregate daily.

We had a very disappointing experience with expedia and the resort. After booking the travel , we realized that there is going to be a rain storm during our stay, so we rushed to cancel half a hour after our booking . Expedia and Anantara failed to return our money. This experience will stop us from booking through expedia let alone stay at Anantara in the future.

Great place to unwind
We stayed here after Galle. It’s quite a new property and provides a perfect way to unwind and relax. The rooms, food, pool and gym are all great. I’d definitely recommended this as a place to unwind and relax. It’s not next to anything so you will need a driver to visit Bentota or anywhere else but if you’re just looking to unwind then I’d book this over the properties at Bentota (we visited for the day and were happy with where we’d chosen)

The hotel was very beautiful with lots of great activities. the room was spacious and pool was a nice place to relax at. the only and main negative comment I have about this place is that the service and staff are extremely extremely slow. anything that I ordered, I would have to ask at least 3 times to finally get my order taken, the staff always seemed lost and confused when I asked a question or ordered something. every single order I made was delayed by 45 minutes to an hour. for example, I ordered a chocolate milkshake that took exactly an hour to finish. I had an amazing time at the resort but this poor service really ruined the experience. there really needs to be better management or more staff. if the staff are managed properly this shouldn't be happening

Average Resort and overall experience
I've stayed at several Anantara properties. This by far would be the lowest rated of the lot. Pros - great spa, good chefs / food was good, Good room sizes. Cons - Staff is clearly not trained to look at details and to the level one expects at an Anantara property - The day we checked in we tried to go for Asian food, but the staff at the restaurant turned us away saying we didnt have a reservation. While we didnt really know we needed one, looking at the reservation list we found that three tables were booked, but already almost an hour late, and there were plenty of tables available. Just disappointing when one has travelled a long day with family and is looking for a quiet meal. - We had issues with plumbing in our bathrooms - we had three rooms / two out of the three had plumbing issues and one room needed to be changed due to leakages. - The bathrooms smelled - not sure if there was a sewage issue. - Food and services were over priced. Quantities are the Asian restaurant were extremely small. - Staff at the checkin and check out need better training - Attention to detail is missing / for example we found one out of a pair of water glasses in one room missing, small things had to be asked for. While the staff tried to help, clearly the team is new and not trained to the level expected and for what is being charged. Overall was disappointed at this stay, especially after we spent three days in Colombo at a business hotel and it was exceptional.

Paradise Outside Of Colombo
I stayed there for two nights after attending a wedding in Colombo. The perfect city escape, paradise in Sri Lanka. I’ve stayed at a few of the Anantara resorts before and have loved every single one, this is no exception. Staff were wonderful and accommodating, resort interior and exterior blends well with local surroundings. Food is always expensive in resorts, but the Anantara has a good variety of food to choose from. Loved every moment of my stay. Wish I didn’t have to leave. Plus the spa is divine, expensive but worth every cent of pure relaxation.

Great service throughout the hotel
A fabulous hotel with great rooms. We booked a pool access room which was exactly as described. Service from all the staff was probably the best we have experienced. Food in all the restaurants was top quality. Location is poor, only the hotel and no beach. Be aware this hotel is expensive for everything.

活気の溢れるカルタラの街の中にありながら、敷地内に入ると丁寧に整備されたラグジュアリー空間が広がります。 スタッフも気さくで親切なので、さまざまな会話を楽しむことができます。 また、敷地内に自然が多く、色んな鳥のさえずりやが聞こえ、リスや猿やイグアナも時折見かけることができました。 虫に関する対策もしっかりとされていて、快適に過ごすことができました。

Fantastic service great hotel
I would come back again. Great facilities and top class service. Must try river cruise next time as beach is too dangerous to swim in at this location. Fab food and fab Villa rooms.

We arrived to the hotel and they did welcoming ceremony before the checking in. then the last day the GM invited us for a drink, it's a small gesture, but I felt it is a brilallant move to sit and meet the GM and discuss with him. The spa was so nice, they gave us 30 min additional complimentary massage.. Overall, we had an amzing time, and if the weather was nicer we could have enjoyed more.

Stay was relaxing..a very adult yet very kids friendly hotel..kids club was nice..my son was sick and only wanted fruit flavored yogurt which is not in the menu but she made one just for him when she knew he was a kid. Thank you! The Italian restaurant food was excellent..for middle eastern families..their pool villas gives the optimal privacy needed

We had minimal expectations going into our stay as we hadn't heard of the hotel group. Great arrival experience, room show well done, facilities clearly outlined. room was amazing, well designed. Spa treatments were amazing. worth the money overall.

Still a work in progress as Hotel unfinished.
On check in it was explained that half the accommodation was under repair, including the room we had booked, so we were "upgraded" to the wing that was in operation. Other buildings were under construction with noise, traffic and dust. The main restaurant only opened for breakfast and lunch as they had very few guests. In the evening only the Italian and Asian restaurants were open. Food in the Italian was very good however the Asian was poor quality and both were very overpriced compared to other first class hotels. Money seems to have been concentrated on the ambience and vast numbers of staff.

新しくカルタラにできたホテル。設備はとても綺麗で洗練されたデザインの室内。特に、バスルーム周辺が美しく、かつ充実していて、部屋にはとても満足しました。プールもきれい、キッズルームあり。スパを含めさすがanantara resort。ゆっくりホテルステイすることをオススメします。 レストランの食事、スタッフのサービスも非常にレベルが高いと感じた。 まだ完成していない部分もあるので、これからがとても楽しみ。必ず再訪します。

Defines Luxury at its best!
The hotel is newly opened and some parts are not yet operational like the ocean wing and some of its restaurants. However we loved our stay and wish to come back when the hotel has 100% occupancy. The food the room the service is a class apart. The staff delights you from the time u enter and the time you exit the hotel.. I loved the way they welcomed us with a cultural dance and bid us good bye by tying a yellow thread in our hand for a safe journey.. The best part of the hotel is that it's sister properly AVANI is just few steps away. You get a chance to enjoy the hospitality and view of both the hotels at one time.. The hotel has ocean on one side river on the other and the lagoon where all meet..
