  • One of the northernmost towns along the coast in North Carolina, Duck is an idyllic town on the shores of the Currituck Sound. This shot was taken from the town's boardwalk while looking West over the sounds. It is advisable to visit the location in Winter as that is off season - so you can spend more time taking in the beauty of the North Carolina coastline and also sunsets are usually much more picturesque around the time owing to the cooler temperatures and lower amount of atmospheric haze. Plenty of things around Duck to see. Further north, there is the Currituck Lighthouse where you can climb the steps to the top of the lighthouse. North of Corolla, there is an area where you can drive along the coast on the sand - 4X4s a must. Here you can spot some Spanish Mustangs, horses out in the wild. If you're lucky, you can spot them running along the beach in the surf. I'd recommend taking a tour through the Corolla Wild Horse Fund - the money from the tours is used to help the wild horses in every which way possible and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Great location - 70s retro

This house was in a great location - it really is about 100 yards to the beach, and walking up the road 1/2 mile the other direction gets you to a fabulous bakery (Tulio's) and Duck Donuts. This is definitely a 70s retro house -- charming if you like that style. It was well-stocked with everything we needed. And our dogs liked it too. The only downside was the beds, which were not particularly comfortable.

Great Location, House Needs Updating

This house is in a great location, and overall, we had a good trip. However, the inside is greatly in need of updating. Most of the furniture is very old, worn out, lacks any support, and is dirty. The cleaning service did not vacuum before we checked in, so we spent our first half hour vacuuming debris and dog hair. Also, there were no supplies, dish soap, paper towels, trash bags, etc. We really wanted to live this house, but just couldn’t get past the need for updates!

Mixed Review Wright by the Coast

Property was right by the coast, although not much of an ocean view from the property. Beds were not made, (received a refund) and we had arrived late due to an auto accident on the bridge from the mainland. Housekeeping was below standards, with many dusty areas.

Wonderful location, great neighborhood.

The location is truly wonderful, very easy to get to everything in Duck and the beach access is less than a minute from the property so you're on the sand in under 4 minutes. The neighbors were all very welcoming and the shops, parks, eateries are all nearby. The property is dated. That was noted in the pictures posted, so not a surprise. The beds are not comfortable, not.at.all. That was the major issue with our two week stay. We utilized the ones in the main building so I can't attest to the two additional room as we didn't use those. The sofa was an older unit, we were prepared for that from the pictures, but it needs to be cleaned. We draped it whenever we had to use it. The entire property, while serviceable, could benefit from a deep clean. There were cobwebs in areas that require a little more effort (like the use of an extender). The kitchen dish wares, etc, are left up to the tenants in the "check out" instructions and those before us hadn't thoroughly cleaned them, I washed everything after noticing it upon arrival. There should be a check for that before its turned over to new tenants.

Good Stay

When we first came in, we were upset because the property is advertised as a four bedroom but it's really three with a separate basement-like apartment. Of course, the kids all fought about who was going to stay alone in that lower level. We worked it out, but the listing should really be more accurate about the layout of the house. If I had small children, I'd have been more angry. After we settled in, we enjoyed ourselves. The location and neighborhood can't be beat. Two-minute walk to a beautiful beach, and very close to shops and a cute town. The furnishings were comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. One weird thing about the place is that it has no empty cabinets for food, so we just had to leave dry goods out on the counter. But, again, overall we enjoyed ourselves.
