I stayed at the grand inna for one week and made my choice based on its great location at the Kuta beach and it being a VIP access hotel. Unfortunately i was quite dissapointed when i arrived. Although the hotel looked great, had three lovely pools and a very good breakfast the room was very outdated. Next to this sheets and towels were stained, bathroom smelly and mouldy and the drains would overflow resultin in more smell. Since i got the room cheap and i was tired i didnt file a complaint but only gave a dissapointed emoticon to the Expedia first impression. Within one day and based on that emoticon the hotel staff contacted me and upgraded me to the new wing. This was a whole other thing, the room was light and luxerious, bathroom modern and clean and the room smelled fresh. And although i still believe that the towels and sheets could get a better cleaning my overall experience at this hotel was pleasant. So if you need a not too expensive hotel at the beach you can surely go here, but try to ensure you get a room in the renovated wing.
