Arranged for a late check-in (9:30pm). Got there right in time… no one would answer the phone. I knocked so loud, the people across the street looked over, but the voices behind the door didn’t answer. Sent an email as well… finally got a response an hour later. Was told the doorbell was broken. I was already on my way to another place by then.

This had to be immensely frustrating for you, and I'm extremely disappointed to hear of your experience. I've already spoken at length with staff to discover what went wrong to ensure it doesn't happen again. The intense heat lately apparently cooked the circuitry in our Ring doorbell, so that's just an unfortunate mishap, but if you knocked at the door the on-site manager (who lives on the premises) should have heard you and let you in. I've already seen her emails apologizing profusely, so please accept my apologies as well, and know that we both truly regret the incident.Should you decide to ever give us a try again, I'd be willing to offer you a free night's stay to attempt to make up for your inconvenience. My tv. Had no volume I could not hear it at all. There is no where to walk dog. But all in all it is a nice place. The woman that works in the office could not be nicer. It was a pleasure dealing with her.

Pleasantly surprised
Best surprise about this bare-bones drive-up motel is that it was CLEAN and QUIET! My room had a large screen wall monitor (many channels), 1 gray towel & matching wash cloth (soft not scratchy), SOFT gray & black checkered blanket & sheets, comfy bed (slept like a log), lots of drawers (but no clothes hangers), friendly check-in staff who offer 1 shampoo & 1 soap on request. Room also had a microwave, frig, stove burner, kitchen sink with fancy faucet, clean bathtub, black-out curtains, and excellent heater on a chilly night! Decor was black & gray with wood colored floor, no carpet - sparse but pleasant, seems to be a work in progress. Minor cons: No waste basket or hangers or hook on bathroom door to hang stuff, no iron or hair dryer or coffee maker. Is it safe? It's on Fremont Street, so out of their hands, but the drive-up lot was well-lit with strings of twinkly white lights; vending machine is in the lot. You can park your car in front of your room. Doors have sturdy bolts and extra safety chain. If you just need a cheap room for the night on Fremont Street and don't need "fancy," you should be fine here. Recommended.

There are so many options on Fremont St. and in Vegas that it always means a lot when a guest trusts us with their stay. Thank you for your thorough and honest review! After purchasing the motel in May, my main priorities were upgrading and renovating, and now that that's 98% complete, the next priority is investing in more fully furnishing the rooms -- including some more hangers and trash cans (sorry about that!). Next time you drop in, you'll find the rooms won't be so spartan. Safe travels!

on my way, i called and spoke to very nice lady and asked if there was any chance for an early check-in. she was extremely polite and said there would be a $30 fee but there would be a room ready upon my arrival. when i pulled in, it was really difficult to tell who was staff and who wasn’t. the gentleman who greeted me was not friendly whatsoever. the majority of his responses were rude and snappy. fast forward 15-20mins and i went back to the front desk to let him know i had a dog with me, as well. he goes “yeah? what do you want me to do about it?” the single-sided deadbolt did not work in my room so there was only a chain that worked as a lock. in the kitchen area, there was a window with no tint or covering that looked out into what appeared to be some sort of alleyway. apart from the gentleman and the lock situation, the room was clean and towels were neatly folded waiting for use at the foot of the bed. huge bed, big tv, and an awesome shower!

This felt like a jail cell. The walls and floor were bare and there was barbed wire around the window. There was no heat, no hot water, and no legitimate blanket on the bed. The neighborhood is very unsafe.

We have zero rooms with barbed wire around the windows. Also, no heat and no hot water is very serious--did you alert staff to this issue so we could repair it or get you into another room? We haven't received any other reports of a room that has no heat and no hot water. Combined with the anonymous submission of this review, I am skeptical that this is a legitimate complaint.

A True Diamond in the Rough
My stay here was SOOOOO delightful! I called a few times before my stay to ensure everything was in place. It's just far enough away from Fremont and The Strip to be quiet, but close enough to get there in 10 minutes. Great for ride shares. Quiet hours are enforced, which goes a wonderfully long way! The room was clean, cozy, comfortable, and the jacuzzi was amazing! The TV was enormous! She even gave me a homemade scented candle for my stay. Just amazing! The customer service was amazing and they were accommodating of my late arrival. There were other comments about foot traffic and homeless; that's everywhere. It seemed like less foot traffic than in other parts of town. I'm running out of characters or I would say more. Every time I come to Las Vegas, jacuzzi room or not, I will book here if available. Thank you for a marvelous stay!

Mixed emotions, 1st day good, terrible check out.
The 1st day was awesome the front desk was understands what was happening we just had a loss and was struggling ourselves the reservation was for 2 but had to be 3 because of the loss of a mother and a wife. She did not charge us extra which we thank God for because we are struggling. The next morning was a little bit different the air conditioning in our room will not change to cold what is your freezing we couldn't figure out how to get it to hot, it started finally as we were leaving to go, wash our face and take a shower and only got freezing water. No shower. I when fronted desk ask for help. They said they would send a maintenance man to come help me no one came I know it was 7 AM but we had a long day ahead of us and really needed a showers and to have no help at all come was a slap in the face. May have to come back out in July because my man races. Was thinking of staying here but with this kind of service, no thank. Hot water even when you ask for help and don't get any we checked out at 9am, 3 hrs from asking HELP. No 1 even cared this is wrong I don't care that you don't understand but I'm a Very disappointed I will not be staying here again. Even if they are remodeled there is no dishes in there do you even cook on the microwave works but nothing else.

I am glad to hear that you had a great experience with the on-site staff--Natalie and Marcus really care about our guests. Regarding the maintenance issues you experienced with the hot water--I absolutely understand how having ice-cold water for an early morning shower can ruin your day. I hope you can likewise understand that we are a very small motel, and while we take the maintenance of our facilities very seriously, we don't have the ability to keep a handyman on-site round the clock for instant repairs. If something breaks in the night or early morning and our maintenance team isn't scheduled to arrive until later in the day, we don't have a way to expedite that service. You will find that to be the case at every small, independently-owned hotel or motel.Regarding dishes and pots for cooking, they are available at the front desk upon request. We used to stock rooms with them by default, but too many guests stole the kitchen furnishings and they ruined it for everyone.Thank you again for staying with us. Wow Iesha this is a surprising review from you and David. The room you were last in has the largest kind of heater unit we have and you stayed two nights and didn't ask if we had an extra blanket if it was that bad, so just putting that out there. Also you have been a regular here for a while now, and my husband and I have bought at least one night for you and David in the past, and regularly given you free upgrades to the jacuzzi room because we want to make your evening nice and know you guys enjoy that room. You choose now to leave a review after we finally charge you for damages after repeatedly aggressively staining all the way to the mattress protector after repeatedly being asked nicely to adjust, and only because we have to throw them out completely. We were not picking on you, just being fair and trying to keep costs down for all, as we regularly waive deposits for folks, making lives easier all around. I am genuinely disappointed how malicious you're trying to be, and at the same time returning regularly. I am truly sorry for this to turn sour as you and David are welcomed characters to the motel, and sorry we have to charge for things, maybe we'll see you soon.

Area was not safe. The tub was filthy. Not enough towels or amenities. There was homeless people soliciting and urinating in public. King size bed only 2 standard size pillows. Only 1 bath towel and 1 wascloth for 2 people. Drapes did not cover entire window for privacy. The door did not have additional latch for Safety. Bathroom outlet did not work. No toilet paper holder. The Motel advertised newly renovated rooms.

Security is a top priority for the Desert Moon Motel. In the last 6 months, over 25,000 has been invested in new security gates, doors, locks, fences, and cameras, and additional improvements are still being done. Since this guests' stay, all rooms have had sliding safety latches installed. All doors had previously been replaced, and the latches' absence was an oversight that we quickly remedied. (The missing toilet paper holder was also fixed.) All guests at the Desert Moon Motel receive 2 towels, 2 washcloths, soap and shampoo, and king-sized pillows, and the absence of any of the above can be quickly remedied by a request to staff.

SW airlines canceled our flights so we opted to drive the days needed to make our tickets to Tiesto in Vegas. I booked this motel en route online after reading prior reviews and looking at the motel photos. When we arrived, we were pleasantly greeted by the husband and wife duo managing the property. Their attention to the motel was noted with a crew working to make upgrades and renovations. The room was clean, bright and secure. Simple, safe and economical. The area is near an artist community along Fremont street so culture and creativity thrive here. We will be back.

We did not make it to the motel until after dark and had to stand in a poorly lit courtyard to check in through a window into a dark office, super sketchy. The room we were in was incredibly dirty. Black stains on the sheets, black stains in the tub, stained plastic wrapped around the bed, holes in the bathroom door. Our stay lasted about ten minutes before we decided to stay somewhere else.

We found haur in the tub and 3 cigarette burn holes in the sheets. No plugs in the room but 1 and no night stands beside the bed. The light over the bed had no cover on it and it was bright as ever with 3 bulbs. The female at the office had a nasty attitude with a smile. They did let us check in early without a fee and we thank them for that.

I was able to accommodate you early, and also I am sorry you could not find all the outlets, but each room has at least three although they may be behind furniture. Quiet, efficient, friendly place to stay near the Fremont action. My stay there did not require anything fancy. We had a nice and quiet clean and safe room for the night. The Roku TV was much more useful than the standard cable and we enjoyed watching some old Alfred Hitchcock. Easy to walk to Fremont Experience yet away from the noise. The staff were super friendly. Also a short walk to World Famous Tekero Cachondo, the best 10$ I spent in all of Las Vegas! The Desert Moon motel is a no frills travel treasure.

Right down the street from freemont , very safe and quiet, easy access to bus stops , 7 eleven right down the street, staff members are very nice ! If your looking for quiet and safe spot this is it . I've been here 3 nights so far it's been good .

Our Lyft dropped us off - we spoke to someone through a Ring doorbell who told us no early check-in, no bag storage and a room should be ready for us in a few hours. Never saw the inside of a room - outside looks like they're remodeling. NOT near Fremont Street Experience. In what appears to be a very sketch neighborhood. While sitting outside the office door with our bags, we booked another room at the Strat and got a ride there. Not sure why the photos of Fremont Street Experience are in the photo deck, the photo of the outside of the motel is extremely flattering - and misleading. Can't speak for the inside photos since we never went in. Spend the extra $$ and get something with some amenities in a better area.

Hello John! We’re sorry your experience was less than great and didn’t get a chance to stay with us. We were sold out the night before and you arrived at about noon, and with an 11 am check out there wasn’t a room available at that time. Unfortunately there wasn’t a room empty early enough to have allowed for wiggle-room on our 3pm check-in. My husband and I live on site and had run to the store briefly, which is the reason for the doorbell-video communication. We unfortunately don’t have the benefit of a resort to guarantee early check-in availability; we can however, have the benefit of no resort fees! I am glad you were able to find the Stratosphere closer to the Strip and action. We are a 20 minute walk to the Fremont Street Experience, and it would do little justice to our guests to not point out such a famous and close attraction. Granted we are a stroll from the lights and action, the added space may benefit some looking to get away from the party when they’re ready to turn in for the night. Sorry we weren’t what you expected, but glad you had a good time still downtown!

Google rated this stay a 4.3, which I now realize is fraudulent compared to the Orbitz reviews. The one redeeming part of the stay was that the front desk staff was so welcoming and helpful! The property itself was terrible, hairs in the sheets, cigarette burns in the sheets, over powering cigarette smell, cigarette stains on the sink, broken shower tiles, a very very low shower head (I didn’t even bother washing my hair), and water on the floor. The TV was nice but required you to log into your own streaming services/no cable. Positives: the room’s AC worked well, and the building was very quiet. Truly a memorable experience.

Hi Caitlin - I have several apologies to make. Firstly, my sincere apologies for how long it's taken me to see your review and respond. I'm the new owner of the Desert Moon as of a month ago, and I'm afraid you must've gotten lost in the shuffle. Secondly, I am terribly sorry for the state of your room during your stay. Cleanliness of accomodations is incredibly important to us, which is why when I purchased the motel I hired additional housekeeping staff and gave them a 40% raise. Your room is not indicative of our standards, and frankly I'm appalled to hear how bad it was. Should you choose to take the risk again, I'd be glad to offer you another stay with us for free to prove that we can do better now that we're past the transitional period between owners. I'm glad to hear that you had a positive experience with our on-site managers - Natalie and Marcus are also new as of two months ago and they're doing an incredible job. We have also recently finished renovating several more rooms, and further amenities and improvements are coming very soon. We're committed to turning the Desert Moon Motel into a fun, luxury motel in a rapidly growing part of the city, and while I won't blame you if you don't come back, we'll roll out the red carpet for you if you do! ~Michael Schwalbe Owner

This was the worst experience I've ever had. After booking a room for 2 nights and driving 6 hours we arrived at the hotel and there was nobody in the office. A sign was on the door saying do not knock, call the hotel. After calling several times with no answer I had to call Hotels.com and ask to be switched to another hotel. While talking to the agent someone finally opened the door but we were told that they were completely booked. The agent tried several hotels and wasn't able to get us anything until the next night. Leaving us driving around in the middle of the night with our 4 year old. This hotel didn't look nice the way the pictures looked on the website. It's in a bad neighborhood and looks run down.

DO NOT USE EXPEDIA TO BOOK THIS PROPERTY!! Expedia overbooked and the staff at Desert Moon said they never received my reservation and that this isn't the first time this happened. The staff there seemed very friendly and willing to help, wish we could have stayed. Still waiting for a refund from Expedia for this property, would highly recommend just using the Desert Moon website or calling if you wish to book.
