Not chic, but fishy from restaurant exhaust. Mutipke bugs killed. Olivier Apt says “not my fault”
The reality: 5 flight walk up was filled with dirty storage containers. When I opened the door to the apt, I was met with an overwhelming smell of mackerel.Then I noticed an ant crawl out from the indoor plant. Then another, and another. After killing those I started noticing mosquitoes camping out on the low ceiling. My mosquito hunt led me to the kitchen, where I could see a restaurant exhaust fan blowing into the window of the apt. Even with the window closed, the mackeral smell leaked in everywhere.At this point, I contacted the VRBO. The VRBO chat bot said to contact the rental agency. My e-sim only covered data, not phone calls. I messaged in vain through the VRBO app. Then I resorted to finding a local phone. Only then did the owner pick up. I explained the situation and he said he would send someone.After not seeing anyone for an hour and a half, and the workday ending on a Friday night, I started searching for other accommodation. The mackerel smell at this point was in my clothes. He said he was escalating, and after 15min of back and forth WhatsApp texting, he said: “We have tried to find a solution with our team, but its not our fault, the smell come from the restaurant”. So, please call VRBO.Of course, with e-sim, I could not do so. I begged this guy not to rip me off. But in the end, he never got back to me. And with VRBO’s chat bot sending back to the owner, I was stuck.Terrible Terrible experience. Most expensive travel lesson I’ve ever had.
