Accepting 200 year old building and listed status, new owners carrying out renovations. Good Bar but Hotel Lounge basic. Room Heating needs addressing.No Lift so limited for visitors with mobility issue's.

I read some bad reviews on this place buttook a chance. We had a great time and were treated great. I we would stay here again.

Fix it.
Toilet seat is STILL broken. This issue was reported by another reviewer earlier. Shower hot water controls dont work and had a tepid shower.

Location is great. The new owners are doing it up at the moment and I'm sure it will be fab when its done. Currently a bit dated. The room was big and spacious, which was great. The hotel has character, and a history which I was unaware of when i booked. The staff were great, all very helpful and friendly. You can tell it is a close run business. They do a great job 👍

Awful and over priced. shower was older than me the temp control fell of in my hand. The toilet seat was broken and sliding all over. I couldnt close the window as the handle broke when i closed but clearly had been broken for sometime. Couldnt sleep as was on the front against the road and was noisy. Decorating out dated .the room was clean and the staff were great .shame they dont do food and was given a chinese menu and the only other place to eat was an indian restaurant which was was good. I definitely wouldnt stay here again and over all very disappointed.

Polite, efficient, friendly staff. My room was extremely clean as was the bathroom. Downside was no food available, but to be fair this was clearly explained at booking time. I understand the Hotel will be bringing the restaurant and kitchen back into service at some stage and this would make a huge difference.

Property was closing down so no kitchen facilities also had run out of certain beer in bar ..ended up going to anothet hotel to drink and had to buy takeaway for dinner

we are sorry to hear this. we don't like hearing our guests didn't enjoy their stay. the hotel is dated, and we do try to keep the cleanness at the full front of our mind. I'm sorry we failed this time.

In dire need refurb. Great staff.
Lovely staff. Hotel in major need of refurb, damp, wall paper coming off. Carpet seen many feet and spillages. Food in bar great.

Reasonable price. Amazing building in the middle of town. Staff are really helpful. All was clean, but the room carpets were stained.

If only the hotel matched the standard of staff
Whilst our stay was fine, this was mainly due to the fantastic staff currently being borrowed by the sister restaurant (Stepping Stone). The hotel itself is in desperate need of refurbishment, although I must say it was very clean.

After going online and booking this 4star?!!! Hotel for the evening me and the mrs where left very disappointed, it had broken toilet, broken tv, dirty linen, dirty rooms, poor bar opening hours, limited parking just to name a few, very poor maybe a 2 star only!! Will be trying to obtain a refund!

Room was okay 👍. However the ceiling lights didn't work. Had no soap in bathroom .And peeling paint on radiator needs some TLC. On a good note Bathroom had a lovely roll top bath. Also bed was verry comfy. The check in guy that checked us in was fantastic 👏 his knowledge of road maps was brilliant.

I liked having a room with direct access out the back of the pub. There was enough parking and the single room was comfortable. As the staff and customers used the car park to smoke they could be heard close to my room. There were also people hanging around in the square by the clock tower who were a little noisy on Saturday night but was quieter on Sunday. The pub was very brightly lit and would benefits from less lighting to create a cosier atmosphere. The pub didn't appear very busy but served food which was OK. There are some old photo's of the building on the walls which I found interesting. I had a bath in my room but the water wasn't as hot as hoped. The bed was comfy and I slept well. I'd stay here again.

Lovely hotel
Have stayed here numerous times, and always made to feel welcome. Lovely room and attentive staff. Breakfast not included in room rate, but paid for separately and worth every penny. Freshly cooked and set me up for the day! Food in the bar / restaurant of good quality and a good selection of drinks.

Disappointing Stay
The hotel was extremely tired and drab looking, carpets were stained, paint work was very chipped and the curtains were frayed. The bed mattress was obviously very old as it was lumpy with lots of dips in it, resulting in poor quality sleep. The website advertised Daily Housekeeping but in the 5 days I was there, the room was not cleaned!!! Overall a very disappointing stay, therefore sadly I could not recommend this hotel

We arrived and parked up easily the man on reception was very chatty. But during the conversation he told me it would have been cheaper to book with them and then tried to charge us more for Breakfast. The room we were given was for a wheelchair so all fixtures were to low for use and the shower leaked all over the bathroom. Our evening meal was ok but some of the food was missing (onion rings ,peppercorn sauce, mango chutney,) then no apple crumble left that came with the 2 course meal. Service was very slow had to keep going to get a waitress, bed was comfy. Breakfast was ok 1 of each item, 1 coffee. Nothing to visit in the town most of the shops were closed and 1 stall on the Saturday market
