We recent had an excellent stay at "Casa Blanca" on Mexico's East coast in Quitana Roo just north of the small, (but growing) town of Mahahual - about 120 miles north of Belize. The owners, Rick & Jeri Scott were quick to respond to questions and have a detailed list of things too do in area that was very valuable. The water was clear, the beaches are white sand, the reef is 700-800 feet from shore and the house is elevated on stilts which allows the trade winds to keep the main living area on the 2nd floor cool. There are 2 Sea Kyacks, which our 2 teenager, (15 & 17) used daily and the downstairs bathroom & shower were super convenient.
The property is locally managed Marcia at the Mayan Beach Garden Inn a few kilometers south of the house. She is more than accommodating and made sure everything was as advertised, great food for your first night if arriving from Cancun and you haven't gone into Mahahual for supplies yet, (let her know you'll be eating there when pick-up the keys).
Mahahual has a cruise ship port and can become pretty crowded for the few hours that passengers are allowed to disembark. Prices are through the roof during theses times, so always ask for the Spanish or non-tourist menu's at the restaurants. Do this even if the cruise ships aren't in port - you'll save between 40% to 50% on your meals and drinks. Also, wait to buy any trinkets or souvenirs until the last of crews ships have departed, again you'll save a lot of $$ and don't forget to negotiate!
The nightly price for Casa Blanca is very reasonable considering the location, amenities and the house itself. Simply put, "It's a good deal".
Thanks Rick & Jeri for the relaxed fun Va-Ca!
