This was our first visit to McCall. We went back and forth trying to decide if we wanted to stay somewhere in the woods, on the lake, or closer to the center of town. Since it was our first visit, we opted to stay closer to town which landed us at this condo. Overall, we were very pleased for the following reasons:
* Location - The condo is located in the heart of town within walking distance of several restaurants and shops. Payette Lake is just a five minute walk away. We liked that we didn't have to drive everywhere. There is a 24 hour gas station with a small convenience store nearby which was great for a late night snack run. Not a ton of other groceries there, but there is both a Ridley's and Albertson's full grocery store within a 3 minute drive that closed at 11pm.
With the condo being smack in the middle of the downtown area we were concerned it might get noisy. We did not find this to be the case. The entire complex sits perpendicular to the main road and this particular condo is well back from the road. It was hot outside (mid-July) and we had the windows and balcony doors shut so the condo itself was quiet. If they were open or you were on the balcony you might hear some traffic. In the evening it was practically a ghost town, very quiet outside.
*The Condo Complex:
The condo is part of a larger newer chalet-style complex that includes businesses on the first floor and condos on the 2nd-4th floors. KB Burrito cafe, a bookstore, and a bike rental are all located on the first floor. Condo and business parking is all located on the backside of the complex. There was a designated covered carport for our condo. The condos are accessed through double glass doors close to the parking area. The doors are locked with a keypad and there are also security cameras. We felt safe. As you enter the building note that there is a closet in the foyer with several trashcans for your garbage. This was very convenient. There are also a few rolling carts in the same closet which we used to bring our things from the condo to our vehicle. You take an elevator or stairs to the 2nd floor to where this condo is located. When you come out of the elevator you are in a long hallway that stretches the length of the complex in either direction. This condo is located close to the elevator (though you don't hear it at all when you're in the condo). There is no pool or gym or any other common area in these condos. Overall the complex seems clean and well maintained.
*The Condo:
I won't give details on the interior as the photos give a good representation. It's clean, cozy, and doesn't feel cramped. I will mention that the master bedroom is to the left of the living room and the guest bedroom is to the right. So you definitely have plenty of privacy between those two bedrooms. The guest bedroom is sort of "open concept" to the living room with big barn doors that can slide to close off the bedroom from the living room. There is a separate full guest bath and laundry closet to the right of the entrance. The master bath is off of the master bedroom. There is no privacy door between the master bath and the master bedroom, however, there is a door between the living room and the master bedroom. There is a privacy door on the master toilet room. The master bedroom and bathroom are huge. There is a large walk-in closet off the master bath. There are mirrors everywhere in the master bath. One note: the master shower has a glass enclosure so you might want to be sure the master bedroom door is closed/locked if you have other guests. :) The guest shower also has glass walls.
*Amenities:
One of the reasons we chose this condo is that it is one of the few available in McCall with central cooling/heating. It was so nice after a long hot day of recreation to come home to a nice cool home. Ceiling fans in both bedrooms further made it comfortable sleeping during the night. The bed in the master bedroom was incredibly comfortable. There is plenty of extra bedding. All the bedding and towels were plush. We enjoyed that there were large TV's in both the living room and master bedroom. The living room TV has Roku and surround sound! The master bed TV has a Samsung streaming service. We just brought our Roku stick and used that in the master. We were told by our contact that a third TV is coming to the guest bedroom. There are lots of board games though we didn't have time to play any (too busy watching superhero movies in surround sound!)
The kitchen has everything you could need appliance-wise as well as plenty of silverware and tableware, also pots and pans. There is an ice-maker in the frig which was almost empty when we checked in but filled up over time. The range is gas which is nice. The coffee maker is the standard brewer type, not the kind that uses K-cups. There are filters but bring your own cream, sugar, etc. There are a few spices in the pantry. Trash bags, laundry detergent, dishwasher soap are all provided. There is hand-soap in both bathrooms and kitchen but bring your own toiletries otherwise. There is Kleenex in both bathrooms and enough toilet paper and paper towels to last you a few days. Regarding window coverings - there are blinds on windows and curtains on the sliders in the living room and master bedroom. They are not room-darkening but do a good job keeping the light out.
The balcony: this is large and roomy with access from both the living room and master bedroom. There is a BBQ (we didn't use it), one lounge chair, and a set of four metal chairs with table and umbrella. The balcony is partially covered. It overlooks the front of the complex, some nice new condos across the way, a large parking lot, neighboring cafe, and business hwy 55 beyond. There are beautiful large pine trees in every direction which makes the entire view quite pleasant.
Overall, I would say this condo is a great choice if you are wanting to be centrally located, have all the niceties of staying in a 3 star hotel, and aren't looking to be out in the middle of nowhere. Expect to pay higher prices during the busy seasons. Personally, it was worth it to us. We weren't looking for a "rough-it" experience on our first venture to McCall. :)
p.s. our contact was very prompt in returning our texts and friendly in answering our questions.
