This stay was horrible as the staff attitude is bad and customer service is not there for tourist. They only care about their corporate events or futbol teams staying on their hotel. My Room was for two people but they force you to pay extra tax if your document is not American. Never seen something like that. Unbelievable. Don't stay here if you don't want to pay extra at check in. There are lots of hotels in the area that will not do this. They gave me the email of manager but have not receive a respond. Horrible service, avoid this hotel at all cost.

Good morning, Mr. Jason, according to decree 297 of 2016, all national guests must pay VAT at the hotel. In this case, your partner was Colombian, which is why this tax was charged.

La intención de hacer un hotel alusivo al café es buena pero en la realidad es un hotel regular. La atención del personal es muy buena pero las instalaciones muy regulares. Me dieron un café al llegar pero era pura agua, el agua del jacuzzi es fría y no tan limpia, pedimos dos toallas y sólo había una y en general todo se ve con poco mantenimiento o control de calidad.

I did not like that when I was in the elevator staff stop elevator to ask me my car plate number again even after I had already provided it at check in. There was not a good communication by staff.

It’s a nice hotel that I’ve stayed in many times before. Unfortunately, the breakfast was mediocre at best. I used to love the variety and quality of the breakfast. I did not enjoy the things that they served during this visit. This was the smallest room they ever provided me and the most I’ve paid. Therefore, it was not a good experience for the first time in the last 5 years. For this kind of hotel, you would think a fridge in the room would be standard.

The room was clean, well appointed, but a little small. The shower needs a shower wand or something other than the rainhead faucet so us ladies can clean up properly. Also, the rainhead is not good if you don't want to get your hair wet. You only get one room key and it must be placed in a slot to turn on the electricity. This is a nice ecofriendly feature, but not preferred. I don't want to be gone and come back to a hot room. Also, only having one key is not ideal. This seems to be common in Columbia though. We had breakfast at hotel restaurant and it was terrible. Bacon was burnt and all stuck together in a ball. Fruit was not ripe and so firm that I couldn't cut with a knife. Waffle and eggs were cold and it all took a long time considering we were the only one's there. It all tasted like they grabbed it off a buffet from downstairs. Service was not great either. They never came to ask how it was. I ordered a coffee that was supposed to have Bailey's in it, but there was none. I would never eat there again. I read food reviews later and it seems the food quality is not liked by many. Front desk staff and bell hop were all very nice. I love the area and the room has pretty views.

Would’ve been better without the extra fees.
My overall stay was nice, They need to make more clear the guest policy and fees on checkin since they charged me to bring a friend to my room. This hotel is not guest friendly.

Excellent. Clean, nice people working here. Breakfast was ok (not the best) Only a couple of little things; we told them not to spray that coffee in the room and they did, asked again and they did it again, luckily it wasn’t as heavy as other people thinks. Also, those towels, be careful they can scratch your skin, just kidding but it need improvement. Thank you guys.

Poor value for money and the gordo needs to go
The biggest concern was the treatment by the bold “gordo” that was working the evening shift on the arrival date. He had a terrible attitude and should reconsider his career in the service industry. Apart from the nasty attitude, he charged unannounced fees and did not give the free drink vouchers that was supposed to come with the room. When returning to the reception to claim them a few minutes later, he questioned whether I had not already received them during the check in. I explained that he was the one doing the check in, only few minutes before, upon which he denied having done the check in(!). Generally he had a grumpy attitude to any request made that evening and made the stay feel very uncomfortable. I would never return to this hotel, as long as the staff treat their clients this poorly. The girls that worked the day shift were lovely. Apart from this, the value for money is low compared to other hotels in Medellin. Rooms are dated, beds are very small and uncomfortable. Very noisy road outside. Pool area is limited to 1 hr per day pending reservation, which seems very limiting. The hotel smells like coffee, which I guess is the idea, but it gets overwhelming. Breakfast was nice. Location is OK, but not great. Overall, there are far better hotels for this price in Medellin and would not recommend.

Pague los impuestos incluidos en expedia.com pero cuando llegue al hotel me cobraron de nuevo los impuestos y me trataron muy mal al ingreso en recepcion, y eso que somos un medio de comunicacion nacional reconocido, no imagino como sera a un extranjero! NO RECOMIENDO ESTE HOTEL NUNCA!

Todos los hoteles en Colombia montamos en Expedia y en otras OTAS las tarifas sin IVA, por eso cuando las personas hacen la reserva por ese medio, se les envía en la confirmación de la reserva, que los Colombianos deben abonar el IVA del 19%. Not a VIP Hotel & the Coffee spray is terrible
I gave 2 stars more so because of the lack of service as a VIP member. We arrived about 5pm and shared with the front desk that we are excited about our visit to Medellin and the stay at the Cafe Hotel. I informed the front desk about our VIP status hoping for an upgraded room which was already a paid high end room. The upgrade never happened and we were given a room on the 3rd floor with a garden view. Once we were in the room, the staff sprays a 'coffee' or 'hazelnut' mist to freshen the room but its way too strong and started giving me a headache. Within a few minutes, I went back to the lobby to see if we could change rooms but that accommodation was not met. We asked that they not spray the room with the mist moving forward as it was too strong and not desirable. However over the following 3-day stay, they did not spray only 1 day but the other 2 days the scent was sprayed twice daily (once with housekeeping and another time in the evening). The hotel itself was OK. There was no small refrigerator or any complimentary water provided. They charged for water and even for cappuccinos/espressos at breakfast, even though breakfast was included with the room. As VIP members on Hotels.com, we were supposed to also receive 2 free drinks. Upon checking out, I had to ask about the free drinks as they charged for waters and cappuccinos at breakfast. They took off 2 bottles of water.
