The host contacted me the day before our arrival to inform that they were having a "slight" issue with a smell in the rental that they had been trying to rectify for 4 days. I had no choice but to keep the reservation, as I was coming from Red Lodge, MT and meeting friends from Pennsylvania and with such late notice any other comparable rental was double the cost. I requested a credit, and the host gave me 100. Upon arrival there was a slight smell: mildewy/cigarette. Texted the host, she tried assure that it was not smoke. I had to wash all of the towels because they all reeked. I have just arrived home and EVERYTHING in my suitcase REEKS: all clothing, toiletry bags, books, etc. I think that I am going to have to throw away the suitcase all together. I had taken my own pillow, and it reeks as well. This location should not be able to be rented again until the disgusting smell is completely addressed not just covered up. This situation could have been avoided with prompt communication. Additionally, nowhere in the listing does it state that this house in an alley and the only way to enter is through the alley itself.Upon leaving I was still a polite guest and closely followed their instructions and took photos to confirm that the rental was left in excellent condition.
