Sanctuaire ~ Private Retreat in Monte Rio

Sanctuaire is a quaint cabin, tucked away in a sunny riverfront neighborhood. Enjoy relaxing indoors and out, or walk to the river and the town of Monte Rio, less than a mile away.

The interiors are comfortable and clean. The main cabin sleeps 4 people, with two bedrooms (one with a connected bathroom), a second bathroom, and an open living space complete with dining area, full kitchen, woodstove and living rooms with television.

The studio (no bathroom), with rich wood interiors and views of the garden, sleeps 2 more people on the twin daybed with twin trundle. The sauna is also located in the studio. The fully fenced property is private, and fully encases the studio and main cottage, making easy access between the cottage and studio.



Know Before You Book:

Maximum Occupancy and Quiet Hours: The maximum occupancy at Sanctuaire is 6 people not including kids under 3 years old. Quiet hours are from 10:00 pm until 7:00 am. Outdoor amplified sound is prohibited at all times.

A Note About Our Cleaning Fees: Thank you for supporting our local business! When you stay with us, you are supporting local families at work. We think everyone deserves a decent living wage, and we make sure to set the rates and fees so that our cleaners and employees earn a living wage in beautiful Sonoma County. The cleaning fee goes directly to the cleaners and inspectors for their hard work in making sure our guests have a wonderful and welcoming space to call home for their stay.

Parking: There is parking for a maximum of 2 vehicles, one in the carport and the other on the street in front of the house. RVs, trailers and campers are prohibited, per the Sonoma County Vacation Rental Ordinance.

Bed Sizes: Primary - king; guest bed – queen; studio – daybed with trundle (2 twins)

Bathrooms: 2 Full Bathrooms, front bath - shower stall; master bath - tub/shower combo

Location: Sanctuaire is in a cozy residential neighborhood. It is a mix of permanent residents and vacation rentals, families, working folks, and visitors. To honor this balance, we ask guests to park in designated parking and respect the quiet hours in addition to general family-friendly, residential neighborhood expectations. This is a sweet house, my family and I have stayed 3 times. It is a great location and for the most part comfortable and clean. However there were a lot of disappointments. The back yard is advertised as pet secure but it is not and our dog escaped. This made it challenging to have the dog outside. The back yard has not been taken care of, there is leaf debris everywhere on the deck and on the long grass. This is a vermin and fire hazard. We found dirty pots/pans in the cabinet and the blender was filthy. After cleaning it I it ended up not working. On the first day I called the property manager because the microwave was not working and one of the cooktop burners was also not working This was also the case in 2020 when I last stayed at this house and it was disturbing to find it still broken. The property manager said she would get back to me about the microwave but with I never heard anything. For the cost we would expect things to be in better condition.

Wonderful retreat steps away from Monte Rio Beach

The place was amazing and we were so happy we stayed there. We would go back again in a heartbeat. It is a short walk away from the public Monte Rio beach and restaurants and it is a short drive away from the ocean or Santa Rosa in the other direction.

We would've given 5 stars and understanding that we're still in winter, but the garden looked way better in the pictures. That aside we had a wonderful time and loved the little town, a lot!

Great Cottage, great location, lots of amenities!

We had a great time staying in this charming cottage. It was a perfect starting point to head to the ocean—Bodega Bay and Jenner as well as local hiking trails through the Redwoods. The kitchen was well stock with dishes, pots/pans, etc. There was even a crock pot! We took advantage of bbq grill a couple of evening. We all enjoyed the sauna. The enclosed yard provided a safe environment for our dog. The property management team was fabulous with fast responses to all of our questions and needs. We highly recommend this rental.

Could be a gem…but

Unmatched dishes, one teaspoon, every surface and cupboards filled with glassware ( enough for a small commercial bar), multiple utensils but all in terrible condition (including pots and pans). Bathroom and closets stuffed with towels, blankets, miscellaneous junk, no hangars ( but no room for a single guest item). Exterior maintenance marginal with little yard work and a broken gate. If you like leaving your belongings on the floor or in the living room… this place is for you. Single handle faucets made control of water temp very difficult and the hot water was dangerously hot.

Lovely spot near the river. The house was small but has a lovely garden just perfect for enjoying a sunny morning. We didn’t take advantage of the hot tub or sauna - maybe next time!

Great Stay in Monte Rio

We had a great time in Monte Rio. This house is in a great location, is well appointed and very comfortable. We loved that it had a sauna and hot tub. We also loved the backyard; very private and nicely landscaped. I highly recommend it!
