Welcome to the McKenzie Estate Home. Relax with the whole family at this peaceful place to stay and enjoy the nature and charming Old Town Occoquan. Completely remodeled historic home located on 3 acres of land and part of the historic Old Town Occoquan, you can enjoy the nature, trails, shops, parks and sounds and sights of birds. Old Town Occoquan is a small yet vibrant riverfront town in Northern Virginia, located 20 miles south of Washington, DC with 80+ small & family owned businesses including art galleries, unique shops and boutiques and award-winning restaurants. You can walk to the town and get connected to local trails, parks and nearby Workhouse Art Gallery or Occoquan Park.

Fred was an excellent, responsive host. He kindly allowed our senior dog (just over the weight limit) to stay and let our parents check in early since the home was ready. After checkout, we realized we’d left something behind—Fred replied immediately and let us return even though the cleaners had already arrived.The location is fantastic: just a short walk down the hill to downtown Occoquan’s shops and restaurants. The large property was great for walking our dogs. There are some outdoor items near the shed, but nothing that interfered with our stay. Families with young children should note there are steep drop-offs along the side of the property with no guardrails.The home was perfect for our quick wedding-weekend trip. It’s older with some charming, worn-in touches, but clean, comfortable, and well-stocked. Sleeping layout: two small main-level bedrooms each with twin trundles, and a huge upstairs bedroom with a queen and a private nook that could be used for work or extra sleeping space.We didn’t use many of the amenities, but there’s plenty of outdoor seating, a grill, and a covered gathering area—great for longer stays.Overall, we loved the house, the location, and the host, and we’d happily stay again!

The house was the perfect quiet hideaway in a quaint little historic town. The layout is quirky but you soon get used to it and it all makes sense. ENORMOUS surrounding green space and perfect patio placement to watch the storms blow through. Well stocked and easy to reset.

What a fun property!

We enjoyed what we started calling ‘the treehouse’. The unique architecture and the setting on a hill in the trees was a welcome retreat from busy NOVA. The owner was responsive and accommodating. We were thankful to be able to bring our pup along and he explored the yard while we picked raspberries and appreciated the multiple outdoor spaces. The house was tastefully decorated and accommodated our party of four quite nicely. The location near town was wonderful for exploring the many restaurants and shops. We hope to come again in the future!

Relaxing but Close to Everything!

Absolutely loved our stay. The property is close to everything, but out of the way so you feel like you are in the woods. The deck off of the master was absolutely wonderful. We were very lucky that we got to see a Firework show perfectly from the comfort of the house. Would definitely stay again!!

Pros: Quite & convenient. Lots of closet space. Spacious. Good kitchen. Cons: MANY non-functional wall switches and lights - poor lighting. MBedRm fan light hanging by electrical wires. Floors dirty. No chests/dressers. Only sham pillows and no top sheets on all beds. "Swamp cooler" (only used in desert climates) in MBedRm - why???? Humidity in 60's. Barely adequate parking for 2 vehicles.

We stayed in Occoquan in the days leading up to a convention in DC. The location was excellent, the town very charming. The house is an older house, which has undergone extensive updates and renovations. There are a few items still to be addressed, but nothing to dampen our stay. We look forward to returning to enjoy nearby kayaking.

This was just a perfect place to stay. I could walk to Occoquan every day in just minutes to go shopping, site seeing and dining. The house was very clean and had everything you could need including a washing machine and dishwasher.

Perfect for Family Reunion

This is a perfect house for a family reunion in Occoquan and more than ample space for 6+, with a spacious upstairs master bedroom with amazing deck and view and two downstairs bedrooms, each with two twin beds. In addition, the spacious family room was the perfect gathering place for the entire extended family in the area.Checking in and out is super easy with the digital lock, and Fred is easily accessible both through VRBO and texting.

Great property but had a leak.

The property was great. But there was an issue with a leak In the upstairs restroom. When the shower would be turned on in the master room, the water would leak into the living room area which was located under the the master, in the first floor. I contacted the agent about the issue and he only asked me to check again if it was to leak. Upon advising him it was in fact leaking again. I never heard back. And nothing was done to attempt to fix the issue. This made the stay very inconvenient due to only having one shower for 7 ppl who stayed at the residence. This made us loss valuable time each day on our trip. I would hope that this issue gets properly fixed before the next occupants stay at the location. If I would have known there was that issue I would have booked another location. Dealing with a leak from a shower to a living room was not something I was to deal with on my vacation.

Staycation

Family staycation away from home. Family and Friends got together for a relaxation hang out. The house is nuzzled in a small riverfront town with wonderful little shops decorated in Christmas spirit.
