  • The Gem Theatre (previously known as Kinema Theatre, Hub Theatre) was built in 1909. In 1924, one of the reels of film got stuck in the projector and caught fire, igniting a full reel in the lower magazine. Only the outer shell of the theater survived the fire. The Kinema was rebuilt "as near fireproof as possible" and reopened in 1924. The Kinema Theatre was renamed the Hub Theatre in 1928. In 1933, the theatre was renovated and renamed it the Gem Theatre. After the advent of television, the theater could not attract large enough crowds to pay film rental fees. The Gem Theatre closed about 1986. The title of the last movie, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, remained on the marquee for ten years as the theater sat idle. Sometime after this the theater was again damaged by fire. Mark Childs, owner of Childs Construction, and his wife Heather, a retired dancer, purchased the Gem Theatre in April 2010, after moving to Panguitch from Henderson, Nevada.  After replacing the building's fire-damaged roof, the Childs rebuilt the Gem Theatre's interior and reopened it on 28 May 2011. #OnTheRoad

The host was super friendly and the place was really clean and welcoming. We specifically chose the place based on having a fridge and kitchen but the living and dining area was a nice touch. One thing missing that was mentioned in the listing was laundry - there was no laundry on-site but a laundromat in town. Since the listing is in the basement of the house you do hear footsteps and noises from upstairs but that was to be expected. Overall was a good place to stay.

This place was a perfect spot for us to use as a base to explore all the different canyons in the area. We found it clean and comfortable. The host was very welcoming. She had placed a box of snacks in the kitchen for our use which was very thoughtful. It was quiet and in a pleasant neighborhood. We would very much recommend this place.

This property is beautiful, and the lower level space was easily accessible, private, and adequately stocked with everything we needed for our stay! Actually, there were wonderful little touches that we enjoyed, like the pickleball rackets and balls so we could play on the court a couple of blocks away. We enjoyed the neighborhood, and even watched some of the local highschool baseball game. While we were here for the national parks, Bryce, Zion, and Grand Staircase Escalante, and enjoyed visiting them very much, we also enjoyed coming back 'home.' Thanks for sharing your wonderful home! We highly recommend!

A Wonderful Stay

The place was clean and had everything you might possibly need for a comfortable stay. The kitchen had nice dish sets, pots, silverware and the bedrooms nice bed sets. They added a special touch to the place with very cute decorations. There were many toys for boys and girls, board games, coloring books to keep the kids well entertained. Also, the area had nice views and the neighborhood was very quiet, well maintained, and offered a very nice playground with a splash pad. Also, the location was very convenient to access Zion NP, Bryce Canyon, Sand Dunes etc. We would definitely stay here again.

Perfect stay! Better than any Hotel

The hosts have thought about everything. Everything that you could need or want has been considered. They had themed items there for the stay. They had labels, directions, and descriptions for everything. It was great enjoying the summer weather here. We hung out in the backyard way more than I thought we would. The hosts were great about privacy but also be there for questions. I enjoyed this stay x10 better than any hotel nearby. I would return.

Cozy Home

The home was very well kept, cozy, homey, and clean. The bed was comfy and there was ample room to place our suitcases, etc. Everything was adequate and the place felt like a real house (because it is) not just a place to stay. I'd have given 5 stars if it hadn't been sprayed with Febreeze prior to our arrival (I'm sensitive to artificial scents). Nice place to stay when you're visiting the area.

Stayed here 1 night before exploring Bryce Canyon. We wished we could have stayed longer but we had to proceed to the next leg of our family road trip. Located in a quiet, quaint neighborhood. The owner greeted us when we pulled in. She was very kind and friendly. The basement was comfortable, warm and perfect for our family of 5. The bathroom and kitchen area were well equipped, the beds were comfortable and the games, dvd’s and snacks were a nice touch. Everything was well kept and we could tell that it was decorated with care and comfort in mind. A perfect getaway spot for someone exploring Bryce and the surrounding area.

Stay here if you’re planning a day trip to Bryce Canyon!

Great stay- teenagers enjoyed the treats, bunkbeds, games, movies, and even played games outside in the yard! Hosts were so welcoming and encouraged us to treat their home as if it was our own, noise and all! Would definitely stay again. Great location, just a 20 min drive to Bryce.

Lovely place

We really enjoyed our stay here. Lots of thoughtful accommodations to help us feel comfortable. My daughter couldn’t find her toothbrush and was thrilled to find a new one in the bathroom. Very clean and well taken care of. Definitely recommend staying here.

Just Wow!

We were very impressed with space and the host’ kindness. She greeted us when we pulled up and offered for us to call if we needed anything. . Meticulous care was given to the property and to us. I stay at a lot of places, and there’s always things that are lacking. It was not so at this property. The hostess thought of everything. And more!!!

We really enjoyed staying in this cosy place. The beddings, the towels and etc. everything was nice clean. We arrived a bit late. The kitchen really saved our day as there was a long queue waiting at the only open restaurant in the town at the time. Highly recommended!
